1 Then went Abimelech son of Jerubbaal, to Shechem, unto the brethren of his mother,and spake unto them, and unto all the family of the house of his mothers father, saying;
1 Abimeleque, filho de Jerubaal, foi-se a Siquém, aos irmãos de sua mãe, e falou-lhes e a toda a geração da casa do pai de sua mãe, dizendo:
2 Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the owners of ShechemWhich is better for you, that there should rule over you, seventy men, all sons of Jerubbaal, or that there should rule over you, one man? And remember that, your bone and your flesh, am I.
2 Falai, peço-vos, aos ouvidos de todos os cidadãos de Siquém: Que vos parece melhor: que setenta homens, todos os filhos de Jerubaal, dominem sobre vós ou que apenas um domine sobre vós? Lembrai-vos também de que sou osso vosso e carne vossa.
3 So the brethren of his mother spake for him, in the ears of all the owners of Shechem, all these words,and their heart inclined after Abimelech, for they saidOur own brother, is he.
3 Então, os irmãos de sua mãe falaram a todos os cidadãos de Siquém todas aquelas palavras; e o coração deles se inclinou a seguir Abimeleque, porque disseram: É nosso irmão.
4 So they gave him seventy pieces of silver, out of the house of Baal-berith,and Abimelech hired therewith, loose and unstable men, and they followed him.
4 E deram-lhe setenta peças de prata, da casa de Baal-Berite, com as quais alugou Abimeleque uns homens levianos e atrevidos, que o seguiram.
5 And he entered the house of his father, at Ophrah, and slew his brethren, sons of Jerubbaal, seventy men, upon one stone,but there remained Jotham, the youngest son of Jerubbaal, for he had hidden himself.
5 Foi à casa de seu pai, a Ofra, e matou seus irmãos, os filhos de Jerubaal, setenta homens, sobre uma pedra. Porém Jotão, filho menor de Jerubaal, ficou, porque se escondera.
6 Then were gathered together all the owners of Shechem, and all the house of Millo, and they went and made Abimelech king,by the oak of the pillar, that was in Shechem.
6 Então, se ajuntaram todos os cidadãos de Siquém e toda Bete-Milo; e foram e proclamaram Abimeleque rei, junto ao carvalho memorial que está perto de Siquém.
7 And, when it was told Jotham, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried aloud,and said unto themHearken unto me, ye owners of Shechem, and may God, hearken unto you.
7 Avisado disto, Jotão foi, e se pôs no cimo do monte Gerizim, e em alta voz clamou, e disse-lhes: Ouvi-me, cidadãos de Siquém, e Deus vos ouvirá a vós outros.
8 The trees, went their way, to anoint over them, a king,and they said unto the olive treeReign thou over us.
8 Foram, certa vez, as árvores ungir para si um rei e disseram à oliveira: Reina sobre nós.
9 But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, which, in me, gods and men do honour,and go to wave to and fro, over the trees?
9 Porém a oliveira lhes respondeu: Deixaria eu o meu óleo, que Deus e os homens em mim prezam, e iria pairar sobre as árvores?
10 Then said the trees unto the fig-tree,Come! thou reign over us.
10 Então, disseram as árvores à figueira: Vem tu e reina sobre nós.
11 But the fig-tree said unto them, Should I leave my sweetness, and mine excellent increase,and go to wave to and fro, over the trees?
11 Porém a figueira lhes respondeu: Deixaria eu a minha doçura, o meu bom fruto e iria pairar sobre as árvores?
12 Then said the trees unto the vine,Come! thou, reign over us.
12 Então, disseram as árvores à videira: Vem tu e reina sobre nós.
13 But the vine said unto them, Should I leave my new wine, that rejoiceth gods and men,and go to wave to and fro, over the trees?
13 Porém a videira lhes respondeu: Deixaria eu o meu vinho, que agrada a Deus e aos homens, e iria pairar sobre as árvores?
14 Then said all the trees, unto the bramble,Come, thou, to reign over us.
14 Então, todas as árvores disseram ao espinheiro: Vem tu e reina sobre nós.
15 And the bramble said unto the trees, If, in truth, ye are about to anoint me to be king over you, come, take refuge in my shade,but, if not, there shall come forth fire out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.
15 Respondeu o espinheiro às árvores: Se, deveras, me ungis rei sobre vós, vinde e refugiai-vos debaixo de minha sombra; mas, se não, saia do espinheiro fogo que consuma os cedros do Líbano.
16 Now, therefore, if, in truth and sincerity, ye have acted, in making Abimelech king,and if ye have dealt, well, with Jerubbaal and with his house, and if, according to the deserving of his hands, ye have done unto him;
16 Agora, pois, se, deveras e sinceramente, procedestes, proclamando rei Abimeleque, e se bem vos portastes para com Jerubaal e para com a sua casa, e se com ele agistes segundo o merecimento dos seus feitos
17 in that my father fought for you, and cast his soul away from before him, and rescued you out of the hand of Midian;
17 (porque meu pai pelejou por vós e, arriscando a vida, vos livrou das mãos dos midianitas;
18 yet have, ye, risen up against the house of my father, to-day, and slain his sonsseventy men, upon one stone,and made Abimelech, son of his maidservant, king over the owners of Shechem, because he is, your brother;
18 porém vós, hoje, vos levantastes contra a casa de meu pai e matastes seus filhos, setenta homens, sobre uma pedra; e a Abimeleque, filho de sua serva, fizestes reinar sobre os cidadãos de Siquém, porque é vosso irmão),
19 if then, in truth and in sincerity, ye have dealt with Jerubbaal and with his house, this day, rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let, him also, rejoice in you;
19 se, deveras e sinceramente, procedestes, hoje, com Jerubaal e com a sua casa, alegrai-vos com Abimeleque, e também ele se alegre convosco.
20 but, if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the owners of Shechem, and the house of Millo,and let fire come out from the owners of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech!
20 Mas, se não, saia fogo de Abimeleque e consuma os cidadãos de Siquém e Bete-Milo; e saia fogo dos cidadãos de Siquém e de Bete-Milo, que consuma a Abimeleque.
21 And Jotham hasted away, and fled, and went to Beer,and dwelt there, away from the face of Abimelech his brother.
21 Fugiu logo Jotão, e foi-se para Beer, e ali habitou por temer seu irmão Abimeleque.
22 And Abimelech ruled over Israel three years.
22 Havendo, pois, Abimeleque dominado três anos sobre Israel,
23 Then God let go a spirit of mischief between Abimelech and the owners of Shechem,and the owners of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:
23 suscitou Deus um espírito de aversão entre Abimeleque e os cidadãos de Siquém; e estes se houveram aleivosamente contra Abimeleque,
24 that the cruel wrong to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might ,and that their blood might be laid upon Abimelech their brother, who slew them, and upon the owners of Shechem who strengthened his hands, to slay his brethren.
24 para que a vingança da violência praticada contra os setenta filhos de Jerubaal viesse, e o seu sangue caísse sobre Abimeleque, seu irmão, que os matara, e sobre os cidadãos de Siquém, que contribuíram para que ele matasse seus próprios irmãos.
25 So the owners of Shechem set for him liers in wait, upon the tops of the mountains, and they robbed all who crossed over them by the road,and it was told Abimelech.
25 Os cidadãos de Siquém puseram contra ele homens de emboscada sobre os cimos dos montes; e todo aquele que passava pelo caminho junto a eles, eles o assaltavam; e isto se contou a Abimeleque.
26 And Gaal son of Ebed came, with his brethren, and they passed through to Shechem,and the owners of Shechem put their trust in him.
26 Veio também Gaal, filho de Ebede, com seus irmãos, e se estabeleceram em Siquém; e os cidadãos de Siquém confiaram nele,
27 Then went they out into the fields, and gathered the fruit of their vineyards and trode , and held a vintage festival,and entered the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and poured contempt on Abimelech.
27 e saíram ao campo, e vindimaram as suas vinhas, e pisaram as uvas, e fizeram festas, e foram à casa de seu deus, e comeram, e beberam, e amaldiçoaram Abimeleque.
28 And Gaal son of Ebed said: Who is Abimelechand who is the son of Shechem, that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? Serve ye the men of Hamor, Shechems father, but why should, we, serve him?
28 Disse Gaal, filho de Ebede: Quem é Abimeleque, e quem somos nós de Siquém, para que o sirvamos? Não é, porventura, filho de Jerubaal? E não é Zebul o seu oficial? Servi, antes, aos homens de Hamor, pai de Siquém. Mas nós, por que serviremos a ele?
29 Would, then, this people were in my hand! that I might set aside Abimelech,and say to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out!
29 Quem dera estivesse este povo sob a minha mão, e eu expulsaria Abimeleque e lhe diria: Multiplica o teu exército e sai.
30 And, when Zubul, governor of the city, heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, then was kindled his anger.
30 Ouvindo Zebul, governador da cidade, as palavras de Gaal, filho de Ebede, se acendeu em ira;
31 And he sent messengers unto Abimelech, by deceit, saying,Lo! Gaal son of Ebed, and his brethren, are coming into Shechem; and lo! are fortifying the city against thee.
31 e enviou, astutamente, mensageiros a Abimeleque, dizendo: Eis que Gaal, filho de Ebede, e seus irmãos vieram a Siquém e alvoroçaram a cidade contra ti.
32 Now, therefore, up by night, thou and the people that are with thee, and lie in wait in the field;
32 Levanta-te, pois, de noite, tu e o povo que tiveres contigo, e ponde-vos de emboscada no campo.
33 and it shall be, in the morning, about sunrise, thou shalt get up early, and spread thyself out against the city,when lo! he and the people that are with him coming out against thee, so shalt thou do unto him as thy hand shall find opportunity.
33 Levanta-te pela manhã, ao sair o sol, e dá de golpe sobre a cidade; saindo contra ti Gaal com a sua gente, procede com ele como puderes.
34 So Abimelech rose up,, and all the people that were with him, by night,and they lay in wait above Shechem, in four companies.
34 Levantou-se, pois, de noite, Abimeleque e todo o povo que com ele estava, e se puseram de emboscada contra Siquém, em quatro grupos.
35 Then came forth Gaal son of Ebed, and took his stand at the opening of the gate of the city,so Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from the place of ambush.
35 Gaal, filho de Ebede, saiu e pôs-se à entrada da porta da cidade; com isto Abimeleque e todo o povo que com ele estava se levantaram das emboscadas.
36 And, when Gaal saw the people, he said unto Zebul, Lo! people coming down from the tops of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, The shadow of the mountains, thou seest, like men.
36 Vendo Gaal aquele povo, disse a Zebul: Eis que desce gente dos cimos dos montes. Zebul, ao contrário, lhe disse: As sombras dos montes vês por homens.
37 Then did Gaal yet further speak, and sayLo! people coming down from the highest part of the land,and one company, coming in by way of the Conjurers Terebinth.
37 Porém Gaal tornou ainda a falar e disse: Eis ali desce gente defronte de nós, e uma tropa vem do caminho do carvalho dos Adivinhadores.
38 So then Zebul said unto himWhere, then, is thy mouth that kept on saying, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? Is not, this, the people which thou didst despise? Go forth, I pray thee, now, and fight with them!
38 Então, lhe disse Zebul: Onde está, agora, a tua boca, com a qual dizias: Quem é Abimeleque, para que o sirvamos? Não é este, porventura, o povo que desprezaste? Sai, pois, e peleja contra ele.
39 And Gaal went forth before the owners of Shechem,and fought against Abimelech.
39 Saiu Gaal adiante dos cidadãos de Siquém e pelejou contra Abimeleque.
40 And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him,and there fell a multitude of slain as far as the entering of the gate.
40 Abimeleque o perseguiu; Gaal fugiu de diante dele, e muitos feridos caíram até a entrada da porta da cidade.
41 Then dwelt Abimelech in Arumah,and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.
41 Abimeleque ficou em Arumá. E Zebul expulsou a Gaal e seus irmãos, para que não habitassem em Siquém.
42 And it came to pass, on the morrow, that the people went forth into the field,and they told Abimelech.
42 No dia seguinte, saiu o povo ao campo; disto foi avisado Abimeleque,
43 So he took the people and divided them into three companies, and lay in wait in the field,and he looked, and lo! the people coming forth out of the city, so he rose up against them, and smote them.
43 que tomou os seus homens, e os repartiu em três grupos, e os pôs de emboscada no campo. Olhando, viu que o povo saía da cidade; então, se levantou contra eles e os feriu.
44 And, Abimelech, and the companies that were with him, spread themselves out, and took their stand at the opening of the gate of the city,while, the two companies, spread themselves out against all that were in the field, and smote them.
44 Abimeleque e o grupo que com ele estava romperam de improviso e tomaram posição à porta da cidade, enquanto os dois outros grupos deram de golpe sobre todos quantos estavam no campo e os destroçaram.
45 And, Abimelech, fought against the city, all that day, and captured the city, the people also that were therein, he slew,and brake down the city, and sowed it with salt.
45 Todo aquele dia pelejou Abimeleque contra a cidade e a tomou. Matou o povo que nela havia, assolou-a e a semeou de sal.
46 And, when all the owners of the tower of Shechem heard, they entered into the basement of the house of El-berith.
46 Tendo ouvido isto todos os cidadãos da Torre de Siquém, entraram na fortaleza subterrânea, no templo de El-Berite.
47 And it was told Abimelech, that all the owners of the tower of Shechem had gathered themselves together.
47 Contou-se a Abimeleque que todos os cidadãos da Torre de Siquém se haviam congregado.
48 So Abimelech went up Mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him, and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and lifted it, and laid it on his shoulder,and said unto the people that were with himWhat ye have seen me do, haste! do likewise.
48 Então, subiu ele ao monte Salmom, ele e todo o seu povo; Abimeleque tomou de um machado, e cortou uma ramada de árvore, e a levantou, e pô-la ao ombro, e disse ao povo que com ele estava: O que me vistes fazer, fazei-o também vós, depressa.
49 So, even all the people cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and laid them over the basement, and set it on fire over them who were therein,even all the men of the tower of Shechem died about a thousand men and women.
49 Assim, cada um de todo o povo cortou a sua ramada, e seguiram Abimeleque, e as puseram em cima da fortaleza subterrânea, e queimaram sobre todos os da Torre de Siquém, de maneira que morreram todos, uns mil homens e mulheres.
50 Then went Abimelech unto Thebez,and encamped against Thebez, and captured it.
50 Então, se foi Abimeleque a Tebes, e a sitiou, e a tomou.
51 Now, a strong tower, was in the midst of the city, and there fled thither all the men and the women, and all the owners of the city, and shut themselves in,and went up on the roof of the tower.
51 Havia, porém, no meio da cidade, uma torre forte; e todos os homens e mulheres, todos os moradores da cidade, se acolheram a ela, e fecharam após si as portas da torre, e subiram ao seu eirado.
52 And Abimelech came in as far as the tower, and fought against it,and so came near, as far as the entrance of the tower, to burn it with fire.
52 Abimeleque veio até à torre, pelejou contra ela e se chegou até à sua porta para a incendiar.
53 And a certain woman cast an upper millstone upon the head of Abimelech,and brake in pieces his skull.
53 Porém certa mulher lançou uma pedra superior de moinho sobre a cabeça de Abimeleque e lhe quebrou o crânio.
54 Then called he hastily unto the young man bearing his armour, and said unto himDraw thy sword, and put me to death, lest they say of me, A woman, slew him! So his young man thrust him through, and he died.
54 Então, chamou logo ao moço, seu escudeiro, e lhe disse: Desembainha a tua espada e mata-me, para que não se diga de mim: Mulher o matou. O moço o atravessou, e ele morreu.
55 And, when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was, dead, they went their way every man to his own place.
55 Vendo, pois, os homens de Israel que Abimeleque já estava morto, foram-se, cada um para sua casa.
56 Thus did God requite the wickedness of Abimelech, which he had done to his father, in slaying his seventy brethren;
56 Assim, Deus fez tornar sobre Abimeleque o mal que fizera a seu pai, por ter aquele matado os seus setenta irmãos.
57 all the wickedness also, of the men of Shechem, did God requite upon their own head,and so brought in upon, them the curse of Jotham, son of Jerubbaal.
57 De igual modo, todo o mal dos homens de Siquém Deus fez cair sobre a cabeça deles. Assim, veio sobre eles a maldição de Jotão, filho de Jerubaal.
