1 Then went Abimelech son of Jerubbaal, to Shechem, unto the brethren of his mother,and spake unto them, and unto all the family of the house of his mothers father, saying;
1 E Abimeleque, filho de Jerubaal, foi a Siquém, aos irmãos de sua mãe, e falou-lhes e a toda a geração da casa do pai de sua mãe, dizendo:
2 Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the owners of ShechemWhich is better for you, that there should rule over you, seventy men, all sons of Jerubbaal, or that there should rule over you, one man? And remember that, your bone and your flesh, am I.
2 Falai, peço-vos, aos ouvidos de todos os cidadãos de Siquém: Qual é melhor para vós, que setenta homens, todos os filhos de Jerubaal, dominem sobre vós, ou que um homem sobre vós domine? Lembrai-vos também de que sou osso vosso e carne vossa.
3 So the brethren of his mother spake for him, in the ears of all the owners of Shechem, all these words,and their heart inclined after Abimelech, for they saidOur own brother, is he.
3 Então os irmãos de sua mãe falaram acerca dele perante os ouvidos de todos os cidadãos de Siquém todas aquelas palavras; e o coração deles se inclinou a seguir Abimeleque, porque disseram: É nosso irmão.
4 So they gave him seventy pieces of silver, out of the house of Baal-berith,and Abimelech hired therewith, loose and unstable men, and they followed him.
4 E deram-lhe setenta peças de prata, da casa de Baal-Berite; e com elas alugou Abimeleque uns homens ociosos e levianos, que o seguiram.
5 And he entered the house of his father, at Ophrah, and slew his brethren, sons of Jerubbaal, seventy men, upon one stone,but there remained Jotham, the youngest son of Jerubbaal, for he had hidden himself.
5 E veio à casa de seu pai, a Ofra, e matou a seus irmãos, os filhos de Jerubaal, setenta homens, sobre uma pedra. Porém Jotão, filho menor de Jerubaal, ficou, porque se tinha escondido.
6 Then were gathered together all the owners of Shechem, and all the house of Millo, and they went and made Abimelech king,by the oak of the pillar, that was in Shechem.
6 Então se ajuntaram todos os cidadãos de Siquém, e toda a casa de Milo; e foram, e constituíram a Abimeleque rei, junto ao carvalho alto que está perto de Siquém.
7 And, when it was told Jotham, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried aloud,and said unto themHearken unto me, ye owners of Shechem, and may God, hearken unto you.
7 E, dizendo-o a Jotão, foi e pôs-se no cume do monte de Gerizim, e levantou a sua voz, e clamou e disse-lhes: Ouvi-me, cidadãos de Siquém, e Deus vos ouvirá a vós;
8 The trees, went their way, to anoint over them, a king,and they said unto the olive treeReign thou over us.
8 Foram uma vez as árvores a ungir para si um rei, e disseram à oliveira: Reina tu sobre nós.
9 But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, which, in me, gods and men do honour,and go to wave to and fro, over the trees?
9 Porém a oliveira lhes disse: Deixaria eu a minha gordura, que Deus e os homens em mim prezam, e iria pairar sobre as árvores?
10 Then said the trees unto the fig-tree,Come! thou reign over us.
10 Então disseram as árvores à figueira: Vem tu, e reina sobre nós.
11 But the fig-tree said unto them, Should I leave my sweetness, and mine excellent increase,and go to wave to and fro, over the trees?
11 Porém a figueira lhes disse: Deixaria eu a minha doçura, o meu bom fruto, e iria pairar sobre as árvores?
12 Then said the trees unto the vine,Come! thou, reign over us.
12 Então disseram as árvores à videira: Vem tu, e reina sobre nós.
13 But the vine said unto them, Should I leave my new wine, that rejoiceth gods and men,and go to wave to and fro, over the trees?
13 Porém a videira lhes disse: Deixaria eu o meu mosto, que alegra a Deus e aos homens, e iria pairar sobre as árvores?
14 Then said all the trees, unto the bramble,Come, thou, to reign over us.
14 Então todas as árvores disseram ao espinheiro: Vem tu, e reina sobre nós.
15 And the bramble said unto the trees, If, in truth, ye are about to anoint me to be king over you, come, take refuge in my shade,but, if not, there shall come forth fire out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.
15 E disse o espinheiro às árvores: Se, na verdade, me ungis por rei sobre vós, vinde, e confiai-vos debaixo da minha sombra; mas, se não, saia fogo do espinheiro que consuma os cedros do Líbano.
16 Now, therefore, if, in truth and sincerity, ye have acted, in making Abimelech king,and if ye have dealt, well, with Jerubbaal and with his house, and if, according to the deserving of his hands, ye have done unto him;
16 Agora, pois, se é que em verdade e sinceridade agistes, fazendo rei a Abimeleque, e se bem fizestes para com Jerubaal e para com a sua casa, e se com ele usastes conforme ao merecimento das suas mãos
17 in that my father fought for you, and cast his soul away from before him, and rescued you out of the hand of Midian;
17 (Porque meu pai pelejou por vós, e desprezou a sua vida, e vos livrou da mão dos midianitas;
18 yet have, ye, risen up against the house of my father, to-day, and slain his sonsseventy men, upon one stone,and made Abimelech, son of his maidservant, king over the owners of Shechem, because he is, your brother;
18 Porém vós hoje vos levantastes contra a casa de meu pai, e matastes a seus filhos, setenta homens, sobre uma pedra; e a Abimeleque, filho da sua serva, fizestes reinar sobre os cidadãos de Siquém, porque é vosso irmão);
19 if then, in truth and in sincerity, ye have dealt with Jerubbaal and with his house, this day, rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let, him also, rejoice in you;
19 Pois, se em verdade e sinceridade usastes com Jerubaal e com a sua casa hoje, alegrai-vos com Abimeleque, e também ele se alegre convosco.
20 but, if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the owners of Shechem, and the house of Millo,and let fire come out from the owners of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech!
20 Mas, se não, saia fogo de Abimeleque, e consuma aos cidadãos de Siquém, e a casa de Milo; e saia fogo dos cidadãos de Siquém, e da casa de Milo, que consuma a Abimeleque.
21 And Jotham hasted away, and fled, and went to Beer,and dwelt there, away from the face of Abimelech his brother.
21 Então partiu Jotão, e fugiu e foi para Beer; e ali habitou por medo de Abimeleque, seu irmão.
22 And Abimelech ruled over Israel three years.
22 Havendo, pois, Abimeleque dominado três anos sobre Israel,
23 Then God let go a spirit of mischief between Abimelech and the owners of Shechem,and the owners of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:
23 Enviou Deus um mau espírito entre Abimeleque e os cidadãos de Siquém; e estes se houveram aleivosamente contra Abimeleque;
24 that the cruel wrong to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might ,and that their blood might be laid upon Abimelech their brother, who slew them, and upon the owners of Shechem who strengthened his hands, to slay his brethren.
24 Para que a violência feita aos setenta filhos de Jerubaal viesse, e o seu sangue caísse sobre Abimeleque, seu irmão, que os matara, e sobre os cidadãos de Siquém, que fortaleceram as mãos dele para matar a seus irmãos;
25 So the owners of Shechem set for him liers in wait, upon the tops of the mountains, and they robbed all who crossed over them by the road,and it was told Abimelech.
25 E os cidadãos de Siquém puseram contra ele quem lhe armasse emboscadas sobre os cumes dos montes; e a todo aquele que passava pelo caminho junto a eles o assaltavam; e contou-se isso a Abimeleque.
26 And Gaal son of Ebed came, with his brethren, and they passed through to Shechem,and the owners of Shechem put their trust in him.
26 Veio também Gaal, filho de Ebede, com seus irmãos, e passaram a Siquém; e os cidadãos de Siquém confiaram nele.
27 Then went they out into the fields, and gathered the fruit of their vineyards and trode , and held a vintage festival,and entered the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and poured contempt on Abimelech.
27 E saíram ao campo, e vindimaram as suas vinhas, e pisaram as uvas, e fizeram festas; e foram à casa de seu deus, e comeram, e beberam, e amaldiçoaram a Abimeleque.
28 And Gaal son of Ebed said: Who is Abimelechand who is the son of Shechem, that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? Serve ye the men of Hamor, Shechems father, but why should, we, serve him?
28 E disse Gaal, filho de Ebede: Quem é Abimeleque, e quem é Siquém, para que o sirvamos? Não é porventura filho de Jerubaal? E não é Zebul o seu mordomo? Servi antes aos homens de Hamor, pai de Siquém; pois, por que razão serviríamos nós a ele?
29 Would, then, this people were in my hand! that I might set aside Abimelech,and say to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out!
29 Ah! se este povo estivera na minha mão, eu expulsaria a Abimeleque. E diria a Abimeleque: Multiplica o teu exército, e sai.
30 And, when Zubul, governor of the city, heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, then was kindled his anger.
30 E, ouvindo Zebul, o maioral da cidade, as palavras de Gaal, filho de Ebede, se acendeu a sua ira;
31 And he sent messengers unto Abimelech, by deceit, saying,Lo! Gaal son of Ebed, and his brethren, are coming into Shechem; and lo! are fortifying the city against thee.
31 E enviou astutamente mensageiros a Abimeleque, dizendo: Eis que Gaal, filho de Ebede, e seus irmãos vieram a Siquém, e eis que eles estão sublevando esta cidade contra ti.
32 Now, therefore, up by night, thou and the people that are with thee, and lie in wait in the field;
32 Levanta-te, pois, de noite, tu e o povo que tiveres contigo, e põe emboscadas no campo.
33 and it shall be, in the morning, about sunrise, thou shalt get up early, and spread thyself out against the city,when lo! he and the people that are with him coming out against thee, so shalt thou do unto him as thy hand shall find opportunity.
33 E levanta-te pela manhã ao sair o sol, e dá de golpe sobre a cidade; e eis que, saindo contra ti, ele e o povo que tiver com ele, faze-lhe como puderes.
34 So Abimelech rose up,, and all the people that were with him, by night,and they lay in wait above Shechem, in four companies.
34 Levantou-se, pois, Abimeleque, e todo o povo que com ele havia, de noite, e puseram emboscadas a Siquém, com quatro tropas.
35 Then came forth Gaal son of Ebed, and took his stand at the opening of the gate of the city,so Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from the place of ambush.
35 E Gaal, filho de Ebede, saiu, e pôs-se à entrada da porta da cidade; e Abimeleque, e todo o povo que com ele havia, se levantou das emboscadas.
36 And, when Gaal saw the people, he said unto Zebul, Lo! people coming down from the tops of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, The shadow of the mountains, thou seest, like men.
36 E, vendo Gaal aquele povo, disse a Zebul: Eis que desce gente dos cumes dos montes. Zebul, ao contrário, lhe disse: As sombras dos montes vês como se fossem homens.
37 Then did Gaal yet further speak, and sayLo! people coming down from the highest part of the land,and one company, coming in by way of the Conjurers Terebinth.
37 Porém Gaal ainda tornou a falar, e disse: Eis ali desce gente do meio da terra, e uma tropa vem do caminho do carvalho de Meonenim.
38 So then Zebul said unto himWhere, then, is thy mouth that kept on saying, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? Is not, this, the people which thou didst despise? Go forth, I pray thee, now, and fight with them!
38 Então lhe disse Zebul: Onde está agora a tua boca, com a qual dizias: Quem é Abimeleque, para que o sirvamos? Não é este porventura o povo que desprezaste? Sai pois, peço-te, e peleja contra ele.
39 And Gaal went forth before the owners of Shechem,and fought against Abimelech.
39 E saiu Gaal à vista dos cidadãos de Siquém, e pelejou contra Abimeleque.
40 And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him,and there fell a multitude of slain as far as the entering of the gate.
40 E Abimeleque o perseguiu porquanto fugiu de diante dele; e muitos feridos caíram até à entrada da porta da cidade.
41 Then dwelt Abimelech in Arumah,and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.
41 E Abimeleque ficou em Aruma. E Zebul expulsou a Gaal e a seus irmãos, para que não pudessem habitar em Siquém.
42 And it came to pass, on the morrow, that the people went forth into the field,and they told Abimelech.
42 E sucedeu no dia seguinte que o povo saiu ao campo; disto foi avisado Abimeleque.
43 So he took the people and divided them into three companies, and lay in wait in the field,and he looked, and lo! the people coming forth out of the city, so he rose up against them, and smote them.
43 Então tomou o povo, e o repartiu em três tropas, e pôs emboscadas no campo; e olhou, e eis que o povo saía da cidade, e levantou-se contra ele, e o feriu.
44 And, Abimelech, and the companies that were with him, spread themselves out, and took their stand at the opening of the gate of the city,while, the two companies, spread themselves out against all that were in the field, and smote them.
44 Porque Abimeleque, e as tropas que com ele havia, romperam de improviso, e pararam à entrada da porta da cidade; e as outras duas tropas deram de improviso sobre todos quantos estavam no campo, e os feriram.
45 And, Abimelech, fought against the city, all that day, and captured the city, the people also that were therein, he slew,and brake down the city, and sowed it with salt.
45 E Abimeleque pelejou contra a cidade todo aquele dia, e tomou a cidade, e matou o povo que nela havia; e assolou a cidade, e a semeou de sal.
46 And, when all the owners of the tower of Shechem heard, they entered into the basement of the house of El-berith.
46 O que ouvindo todos os cidadãos da torre de Siquém, entraram na fortaleza, na casa do deus Berite.
47 And it was told Abimelech, that all the owners of the tower of Shechem had gathered themselves together.
47 E contou-se a Abimeleque que todos os cidadãos da torre de Siquém se haviam congregado.
48 So Abimelech went up Mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him, and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and lifted it, and laid it on his shoulder,and said unto the people that were with himWhat ye have seen me do, haste! do likewise.
48 Subiu, pois, Abimeleque ao monte Salmom, ele e todo o povo que com ele havia; e Abimeleque tomou na sua mão um machado, e cortou um ramo de árvore, e o levantou, e pô-lo ao seu ombro, e disse ao povo, que com ele havia: O que me vistes fazer apressai-vos a fazê-lo assim como eu.
49 So, even all the people cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and laid them over the basement, and set it on fire over them who were therein,even all the men of the tower of Shechem died about a thousand men and women.
49 Assim, pois, cada um de todo o povo, também cortou o seu ramo e seguiu a Abimeleque; e pondo os ramos junto da fortaleza, queimaram-na a fogo com os que nela estavam, de modo que todos os da torre de Siquém morreram, uns mil homens e mulheres.
50 Then went Abimelech unto Thebez,and encamped against Thebez, and captured it.
50 Então Abimeleque foi a Tebes e a sitiou, e a tomou.
51 Now, a strong tower, was in the midst of the city, and there fled thither all the men and the women, and all the owners of the city, and shut themselves in,and went up on the roof of the tower.
51 Havia, porém, no meio da cidade uma torre forte; e todos os homens e mulheres, e todos os cidadãos da cidade se refugiaram nela, e fecharam após si as portas, e subiram ao eirado da torre.
52 And Abimelech came in as far as the tower, and fought against it,and so came near, as far as the entrance of the tower, to burn it with fire.
52 E Abimeleque veio até à torre, e a combateu; e chegou-se até à porta da torre, para a incendiar.
53 And a certain woman cast an upper millstone upon the head of Abimelech,and brake in pieces his skull.
53 Porém uma mulher lançou um pedaço de uma mó sobre a cabeça de Abimeleque; e quebrou-lhe o crânio.
54 Then called he hastily unto the young man bearing his armour, and said unto himDraw thy sword, and put me to death, lest they say of me, A woman, slew him! So his young man thrust him through, and he died.
54 Então chamou logo ao moço, que levava as suas armas, e disse-lhe: Desembainha a tua espada, e mata-me; para que não se diga de mim: Uma mulher o matou. E o moço o atravessou e ele morreu.
55 And, when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was, dead, they went their way every man to his own place.
55 Vendo, pois, os homens de Israel que Abimeleque já era morto, foram-se cada um para o seu lugar.
56 Thus did God requite the wickedness of Abimelech, which he had done to his father, in slaying his seventy brethren;
56 Assim Deus fez tornar sobre Abimeleque o mal que tinha feito a seu pai, matando a seus setenta irmãos.
57 all the wickedness also, of the men of Shechem, did God requite upon their own head,and so brought in upon, them the curse of Jotham, son of Jerubbaal.
57 Como também todo o mal dos homens de Siquém fez tornar sobre a cabeça deles; e a maldição de Jotão, filho de Jerubaal, veio sobre eles.
