Jeremias 18

1 The word that came unto Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying:
1 Palavra que foi dita a Jeremias da parte do Senhor :
2 Arise and go down to the house of the potter,and, there, will I cause thee to hear my words.
2 — Levante-se e desça até a casa do oleiro, e lá você ouvirá as minhas palavras.
3 So I went down, to the house of the potter,and there he was! making a piece of work on the wheels,
3 Desci à casa do oleiro, e eis que ele estava trabalhando sobre a roda.
4 Then was marred, the vessel that he was making, while yet it was clay in the hand of the potter,so he turned and made of it another vessel, as seemed right in the eyes of the potter to make it.
4 Como o vaso que o oleiro fazia de barro se estragou nas suas mãos, ele tornou a fazer dele outro vaso, segundo bem lhe pareceu.
5 Then came the word of Yahweh unto me, saying:
5 Então a palavra do Senhor veio a mim, dizendo:
6 Like this potter, can I not deal with you O house of Israel? Demandeth Yahweh: Lo! as clay in the hand of the potter, So, are, ye, in my hand O house of Israel.
6 — Casa de Israel, será que não posso fazer com vocês como fez esse oleiro? — diz o Senhor . Eis que, como o barro na mão do oleiro, assim são vocês na minha mão, ó casa de Israel.
7 The moment I speak, concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom,to pull up and to break down, and to destroy;
7 No momento em que eu falar a respeito de uma nação ou de um reino para o arrancar, derrubar e destruir,
8 and that nation return from its wickedness against whom I have spoken, then will I repent concerning the calamity which I had devised to bring upon it.
8 se essa nação se converter da maldade contra a qual eu falei, também eu mudarei de ideia a respeito do mal que pensava fazer-lhe.
9 And, the moment I speak, concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom,to build and to plant;
9 E, no momento em que eu falar a respeito de uma nação ou de um reino, para o edificar e plantar,
10 and it commit wickedness in mine eyes, in not hearkening unto my voice, then will I repent concerning the good wherewith I had said I would do it good.
10 se ele fizer o que é mau aos meus olhos e não obedecer à minha voz, então eu mudarei de ideia quanto ao bem que havia prometido fazer.
11 Now, therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the men of Judah and concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem saying, Thus, saith Yahweh,Lo! I am fashioning against you calamity, and devising against you, a device,Return I pray you every man from his wicked way, And amend your ways and your doings.
11 Portanto, fale agora ao povo de Judá e aos moradores de Jerusalém, dizendo: Assim diz o Senhor : “Eis que estou forjando uma calamidade e formando um plano contra vocês. Por isso, convertam-se, cada um de vocês, do seu mau caminho e corrijam a sua conduta e as suas ações.”
12 And, since they will say, Hopeless! For after our own devices, will we walk, And, very one, the stubbornness of his own wicked heart, will we do!
12 Mas eles dizem: “Não! É inútil! Porque seguiremos os nossos planos, e cada um fará segundo a dureza do seu coração maligno.”
13 Therefore, Thus saith Yahweh, Ask I pray you among the nations,Who hath heard such things as these? A very horrible thing, hath, the virgin, Israel done!
13 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor : “Perguntem agora entre os gentios se alguém já ouviu uma coisa dessas. A virgem de Israel fez uma coisa sobremaneira horrenda!
14 Shall the snow of Lebanon, fall from the rock of the field? Or shall waters from afar, deep, overflowing, be dried up?
14 Será que a neve deixará o Líbano, a rocha que se ergue na planície? Ou faltarão as águas que vêm de longe, frias e correntes?
15 Yet my people have forgotten me, Unto vanity, have they been burning incense; And it hath caused them to stumble In their ways The roads of age-past times, To walk in by-pathsA way not cast up.
15 Mas o meu povo se esqueceu de mim. Queimou incenso aos ídolos, que os fizeram tropeçar nos seus caminhos e nas veredas antigas, para que andassem por desvios, por caminhos não aterrados,
16 To make their land a desolation The hissings of age-abiding times,Every one that passeth by her, shall be astonished and wag his head.
16 para fazerem da sua terra um objeto de horror e de incessantes vaias. Todo aquele que passar por ela ficará espantado e balançará a cabeça.
17 Like an east wind, will I scatter them before the enemy,The back and not the face, will I let them see in the day of their distress.
17 Como vento leste, eu os espalharei diante dos inimigos. Eu lhes mostrarei as costas e não o rosto, no dia da sua calamidade.”
18 Then said they,Come ye and let us devise against Jeremiah devices, For the law shall not perish from the priest, Nor, counsel, from the wise, Nor, the word from the prophet: Come and let as smite him with the tongue, And let us not give ear to any of his words!
18 Então disseram: — Venham! Vamos fazer planos contra Jeremias. Porque não há de faltar a lei ao sacerdote, nem o conselho ao sábio, nem a palavra ao profeta. Venham! Vamos fazer acusações contra ele e não dar atenção a nenhuma das suas palavras.
19 Give thou ear O Yahweh unto me,And hearken unto the voice of mine accusers.
19 — Olha para mim, Senhor , e ouve a voz dos que me acusam.
20 Shall, evil, be recompensed for good? For they have digged a pit for my life,Remember how I stood before thee To speak in their behalf what was good! To turn back thine indignation from them.
20 Por acaso, é com o mal que se paga o bem? Pois abriram uma cova para mim. Lembra-te de que eu compareci à tua presença, para interceder pelo bem-estar deles, para desviar deles a tua ira.
21 Therefore, give thou up their sons to the famine And deliver them into the hands of the sword, And let their, wives, become, childless and widows, And let, their men, be slain by death, Their young men be smitten by the sword in battle.
21 Portanto, entrega os filhos deles à fome e ao poder da espada. Que as mulheres sejam roubadas dos filhos e fiquem viúvas. Que os maridos sejam mortos pela peste, e que os jovens sejam mortos à espada na batalha.
22 Let there be heard a cry out of their houses, When thou shalt bring in upon them a troop, suddenly,Because they digged a pit to capture me, And snares, did they hide for my feet.
22 Ouça-se o clamor que vem de suas casas, quando trouxeres bandos contra eles de repente. Porque abriram uma cova para prender-me e puseram armadilhas para os meus pés.
23 But, thou, O Yahweh, knowest all their counsels against me to pat me to death, Put thou no propitiatory-covering over their iniquity, And their sin from before thee, do not thou blot out,But let them be overthrown before thee, In the time of thine anger, deal thou effectively with them.
23 Mas tu, ó Senhor , conheces todos os planos que fizeram contra mim para me matar. Não perdoes a maldade deles, nem apagues o seu pecado de diante da tua face. Sejam eles derrubados diante de ti; age contra eles no tempo da tua ira.
