1 The oracle of which Habakkuk the prophet, had vision:
1 Esta é a mensagem que Deus, por meio de uma visão, deu a Habacuque.
2 How long, O Yahweh, have I called out, and thou wouldst not hear me? Have I kept crying unto thee of violence, and thou wouldst not save?
2 Ó Senhor Deus, até quando clamarei pedindo ajuda, e tu não me atenderás? Até quando gritarei: “Violência!”, e tu não nos salvarás?
3 Wherefore shouldst thou let me see iniquity, and, wrong, shouldst let me behold, and, force and violence, be straight before me,and there should have ever been someone who, contention and strife, would uphold?
3 Por que me fazes ver tanta maldade? Por que toleras a injustiça? Estou cercado de destruição e violência; há brigas e lutas por toda parte.
4 For which cause, benumbed is the law, and there is never any going forth of justice,for, the lawless, doth circumvent the righteous, for which cause, justice doth go forth perverted?
4 Por isso, ninguém obedece à lei , e a justiça nunca vence. Os maus levam vantagem sobre os bons, e a justiça é torcida.
5 Behold ye, among the nations, and look around, Yea stand stock stillstare,for, a work, is being wrought in your days, ye will not believe, when it is recounted.
5 O Senhor diz ao seu povo: “Olhem as nações em volta de vocês e fiquem admirados e assustados. Pois o que vou fazer agora é uma coisa em que vocês não acreditariam, mesmo que alguém contasse.
6 For, behold me! raising up the Chaldeans, the bitter and headlong nation,that marcheth to the breadths of the earth, to take possession of habitations, not his.
6 Estou atiçando os babilônios, aquele povo cruel e violento, sempre pronto a marchar pelo mundo inteiro, a fim de conquistar as terras dos outros.
7 Awful and fearful, is he,from himself, his decision and his uprising, proceed.
7 “Eles espalham o medo e o terror e fazem valer as suas próprias ordens e
8 Then, swifter than leopards, are his horses, and, more sharply they attack, than evening wolves, and forward have leapt his chargers,Yea, his chargers, from afar, will come in, they will fly as an eagle hath hastened to devour.
8 Os seus cavalos são mais rápidos do que os leopardos, são mais ferozes do que os lobos do deserto. Os seus cavaleiros avançam montados; eles vêm correndo de longe, rápidos como a águia quando se joga sobre o animal que ela está caçando.
9 Solely for violence, will he come, the intent of their faces, isTo the east! And he hath gathered, as the sand, a captive host;
9 Os soldados avançam, ansiosos para conquistar; conforme avançam, vão espalhando o terror. Os seus prisioneiros são muitos; são mais numerosos do que os grãos de areia da praia.
10 And, he, over kings, will make merry, and, nobles, will be a scorn to him: he, at any fortress, will laugh, once he hath heaped up dust, he hath captured it!
10 Os soldados babilônios zombam dos reis e caçoam dos governadores. Eles riem das fortalezas; levantam uma rampa de ataque e as conquistam.
11 Then, hath he become arrogant in spirit, and hath committed excess, and so is guilty,this his violence, is due to his god.
11 Depois, vão em frente, como o vento que passa; eles não adoram outro deus senão a sua própria força.”
12 Art not, thou, from of old, O Yahweh, my God, my Holy One? Thou diest not! O Yahweh, to judgment, hast thou appointed him, and, O Rock, to correction, hast thou devoted him:
12 Tu sempre exististe, ó Senhor . Ó meu Santo Deus, tu és Tu és o nosso protetor. Ó e lhes deste forças para nos castigar.
13 whose eyes are too pure to look with approval on wrong, to respect oppression, canst not endure,Wherefore, shouldst thou respect the treacherous? Be silent, when the lawless, swalloweth up, one more righteous than he?
13 Mas como podes tolerar esses traidores, essa gente má? Os teus olhos são puros demais para olhar o mal; tu não suportas ver as pessoas cometendo maldades. Como é, então, que ficas calado quando esses malvados matam pessoas que são melhores do que eles?
14 So wouldst thou have made Men, like the fishes of the sea,like the creeping thing that hath no ruler over it:
14 Por que tratas os seres humanos como se fossem peixes, como se fossem animais que não têm chefe?
15 All of which, with a hook, one bringeth up, raketh together with his drag, and hath gathered with his net,
15 Pois os babilônios pegam outros povos como os pescadores pegam peixes. Com os seus anzóis e redes pegam os povos e os arrastam para terra. Aí se alegram e ficam contentes.
16 On which account, he is glad and exulteth: on which account, he sacrificeth to his Net, and burneth incense to his Drag; because, thereby, rich, is his portion, and his foodfatness!
16 Oferecem sacrifícios às redes e apresentam ofertas aos anzóis, pois é por causa deles que os pescadores ficam ricos e têm muito que comer.
17 Shall he, on this account, empty his net? And, the continual slaying of nations, deem to be no pity?
17 Será que os babilônios nunca deixarão de lutar e, sem dó nem piedade, continuarão a matar os povos?
