Rotherham Version (ROTH) vs NVT
1 Now, when these things were ended, the rulers drew near unto me, saying, The people of Israel and the priests and the Levites have not kept themselves separate from the peoples of the lands,in view of their abominations-even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites;
1 Depois que essas coisas foram feitas, os líderes judeus vieram e me disseram: “Muitos israelitas, e até mesmo alguns sacerdotes e levitas, não se mantiveram separados dos outros povos que habitam nesta terra. Adotaram as práticas detestáveis dos cananeus, dos hititas, dos ferezeus, dos jebuseus, dos amonitas, dos moabitas, dos egípcios e dos amorreus.
2 for they have taken of their daughters, for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy seed have intermingled themselves among the peoples of the lands,and, the hand of the rulers and the deputies, hath, in this unfaithfulness, been, foremost.
2 Os homens de Israel se casaram com mulheres desses povos e as tomaram como esposas para seus filhos. A descendência santa se contaminou por meio desses casamentos mistos. E, pior ainda, os líderes e os oficiais foram os primeiros a cometer essa infidelidade”.
3 When I heard this thing, I rent my garment, and my robe,and tore out of the hair of my head and my beard, and sat stunned.
3 Quando ouvi isso, rasguei minha túnica e meu manto, arranquei cabelos da cabeça e da barba e me sentei, absolutamente pasmo.
4 Then, unto me, were gathered, all who trembled at the words of the God of Israel, concerning the unfaithfulness of them who had been exiled,but, I, sat stunned, until the evening gift.
4 Então todos que tremiam diante das palavras do Deus de Israel vieram e sentaram-se comigo por causa dessa infidelidade cometida pelos exilados que haviam regressado. E fiquei sentado ali, atônito, até o sacrifício da tarde.
5 And, at the evening gift, I arose from mine affliction, which had been accompanied by the rending of my garment and my robe,and I bowed upon my knees, and spread forth my hands unto Yahweh my God;
5 Na hora do sacrifício, levantei-me de onde havia sentado em lamentação, com as roupas rasgadas. Caí de joelhos, ergui as mãos ao S enhor , meu Deus,
6 and said, O my God, I turn pale and am ashamed, to lift up, O my God, my face unto thee,for, our iniquities, have multiplied above the head, and our guilt hath magnified itself unto the heavens.
6 e orei: “Ó meu Deus, estou profundamente humilhado e tenho vergonha de levantar meu rosto para ti. Pois nossos pecados se elevam acima de nossa cabeça, e nossa culpa chegou até os céus.
7 Since the days of our fathers, we, have been in great guilt, until this day,and, for our iniquities, have we been given upwe, our kings, our priests,into the hand of the kings of the lands, by sword and by captivity and by spoiling and by a turning pale of face, as at this day.
7 Desde os dias de nossos antepassados até agora, temos vivido cheios de pecado. Por isso, nós, nossos reis e nossos sacerdotes fomos entregues nas mãos dos reis da terra. Fomos mortos, capturados, roubados e desprezados, como acontece hoje.
8 And, now, for a very little moment, hath come favour from Yahweh our God, in leaving to us a remnant to escape, and in giving to us a nail in his holy place,that our God may enlighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.
8 “Agora, porém, a graça do S enhor , nosso Deus, nos foi concedida por um breve momento. Ele permitiu que alguns de nós sobrevivêssemos como um remanescente e nos deu segurança neste lugar santo. Nosso Deus iluminou nossos olhos e nos concedeu um pouco de alívio de nossa escravidão.
9 For, bondmen, we are, but, in our bondage, hath our God not forsaken us,but extended unto us lovingkindness before the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up on high the house of our God, to raise up the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.
9 Éramos escravos, mas, em seu amor leal, nosso Deus não nos abandonou na escravidão. Em vez disso, fez os reis da Pérsia nos tratarem com bondade. Ele renovou nossas forças, para que reconstruíssemos o templo de nosso Deus e restaurássemos suas ruínas. Deu-nos um muro de proteção em Judá e em Jerusalém.
10 But, now, what can we say, O our God, after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,
10 “Agora, ó nosso Deus, o que podemos dizer depois de tudo isso? Pois, mais uma vez, abandonamos teus mandamentos!
11 which thou didst command by the hand of thy servants the prophets, saying, As for the land which, ye, are entering to possess, an impure land, it is, with the impurity of the peoples of the lands,with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to the other, with their uncleanness.
11 Tu nos advertiste por meio de teus servos, os profetas, quando eles disseram: ‘A terra em que estão entrando está inteiramente contaminada pelas práticas detestáveis dos povos que nela habitam. Está cheia de corrupção, de uma extremidade à outra.
12 Now, therefore, your daughters, do not ye give to their sons, and, their daughters, do not ye take for your sons, neither shall ye seek their prosperity nor their pleasure unto times age-abiding,to the end ye may become strong, and may eat the good of the land, and may suffer your children to possess I, unto times age-abiding.
12 Não permitam que suas filhas se casem com os filhos deles, nem tomem as filhas deles como esposas para seus filhos. Jamais promovam a paz e a prosperidade dessas nações. Se seguirem essas instruções, serão fortes, desfrutarão das coisas boas que a terra produz e deixarão essa prosperidade como herança para seus filhos para sempre’.
13 And, after all that hath come upon us, for our wicked doings, and for our great guiltFor, thou, O our God, hast spared us, punishing us less than our iniquities deserved, and hast given us a deliverance such as this,
13 “Tudo que nos aconteceu é castigo de nossa maldade e de nossa grande culpa. Ainda assim, recebemos um castigo muito menor do que merecíamos, pois tu, nosso Deus, permitiste que alguns de nós sobrevivêssemos como um remanescente.
14 should we again break thy commandments and join ourselves by affinity of marriage with the peoples of these abominations,wouldst thou not be angry with us, unto a full end, that there should be neither remainder nor deliverance?
14 E, no entanto, quebramos teus mandamentos outra vez e nos casamos com pessoas que praticam essas coisas detestáveis. Acaso tua ira não será suficiente para nos destruir, a ponto de não sobreviver nem mesmo este pequeno remanescente?
15 O Yahweh, God of Israel, righteous thou art, for we have had left us a deliverance as at this day,here we are, before thee, in our guilty deeds, for there is no standing before thee, because of this thing!
15 Ó S enhor , Deus de Israel, tu és justo. Aqui estamos diante de ti com nossa culpa, um mero remanescente que escapou, embora, por sermos culpados, nenhum de nós tenha o direito de estar em tua presença”.
