1 Here, My Lord, Yahweh, gave me to see,and lo! there was a basket of summer fruit.
1 O Senhor Deus também me mostrou o seguinte: um cesto de frutos de verão.
2 So then he said, What canst thou see, Amos? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said Yahweh unto me, The end hath come unto my people Israel, I will not again any more forgive them;
2 E perguntou: — O que você está vendo, Amós? E eu respondi: — Um cesto de frutos de verão. Então o “Chegou o fim para o meu povo de Israel; não posso mais ignorar o que fazem.
3 but palace-songs, shall become howlings, in that day, Declareth My Lord, Yahweh,Many shall be the dead bodies in every placecast forth
3 Naquele dia”, diz o “os cânticos do templo serão gritos de dor. Muitos cadáveres! Cadáveres jogados por toda parte! Silêncio!”
4 Hear this, ye who pant after the needy, and to make an end of the oppressed of the land:
4 Ouçam isto, vocês que pisam os necessitados e destroem os miseráveis da terra,
5 Who say, When will the new moon, pass away, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath that we may open grain? who diminish the ephah, and increase the shekel, and who falsify by deceitful weights:
5 dizendo: “Quando passará a Festa da Lua Nova, para vendermos os cereais? E o sábado, para abrirmos os celeiros de trigo, diminuindo a quantidade, aumentando o peso e enganando com balanças desonestas,
6 Who buyfor silverthe poor, and the needy for a pair of shoes,and that the refuse of the grain we may sell.
6 para comprarmos os pobres por dinheiro e os necessitados por um par de sandálias e vendermos o refugo do trigo?”
7 Sworn hath Yahweh, by the Excellency of Jacob,Surely I will never forget any of their doings!
7 O Senhor jurou pela glória de Jacó, dizendo: “Nunca me esquecerei de nenhuma das suas obras!
8 Is it not, for this, that the land, shall tremble? and shall mourn every inhabitant therein? Shall it not come uplike the Nile, all of it, and be tossed and subside like the river of Egypt?
8 Por causa disto, será que a terra não vai tremer? E não estarão enlutados todos os seus moradores? Toda a terra se levantará como o Nilo, será agitada e abaixará como o rio do Egito.”
9 Yea it shall come to pass, in that day, Declareth My Lord, Yahweh, that I will cause the sun to go in at high noon,and will darken the earth on a day of brightness.!
9 “Naquele dia”, diz o “farei com que o sol se ponha ao meio-dia e com que a terra se cubra de trevas em pleno dia.
10 So will I turn your festivals into mourning, and all your songs into a dirge, and I will bring upon all loinssackcloth, and upon every headbaldness,and I will make it like the mourning for an only one, even the afterpart thereof, as a day of bitterness.
10 Transformarei as suas festas em luto e todos os seus cânticos em lamentações. Vou fazer com que todos vistam roupas feitas de pano de saco e rapem a cabeça. Farei com que isso seja como luto por um filho único, luto cujo fim será como dia de amargura.”
11 Lo! days are coming, Declareth My Lord, Yahweh, that I will send a hunger throughout the land,not a hunger for food, nor a thirst for water, but for hearing the words of Yahweh;
11 “Eis que vêm dias”, diz o “em que enviarei sobre a terra fome — não de pão, e sede — não de água, mas de ouvir as palavras do
12 Therefore shall men rove aboutfrom sea to sea, and from the north even unto sunrise,they shall run to and froseeking the word of Yahweh, but shall not find .
12 Andarão de mar a mar e do Norte até o Oriente; correrão por toda parte, procurando a palavra do mas não a acharão.
13 In that day, shall the fair virgins and the choice young men faint for thirst.
13 Naquele dia, as moças bonitas e os jovens desmaiarão de sede,
14 They who swear by the Guilt of Samaria, and say, As thy God, liveth, O Dan! and, As the Way of Beer-sheba, liveth, shall fall, and shall not rise any more.
14 os que agora juram pelo ídolo de Samaria e dizem: ‘Tão certo como vive o seu deus, ó Dã!’ E: ‘Tão certo como vive o culto de Berseba!’ Esses mesmos cairão e nunca mais se levantarão.”
