1 And it came to pass, when King Hezekiah heard, that he rent his clothes,and covered himself with sackcloth, and entered the house of Yahweh;
1 Quando o rei Ezequias ouviu esse relato, rasgou as roupas, vestiu-se com panos de saco e entrou no templo do S enhor .
2 and sent Eliakim who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth,unto Isaiah the prophet, son of Amoz;
2 Enviou Eliaquim, o administrador do palácio, Sebna, o secretário da corte, e os principais sacerdotes, todos vestidos com panos de saco, ao profeta Isaías, filho de Amoz.
3 and they said unto himThus, saith Hezekiah, A day of trouble, and rebuke, and reviling, is this day,for children are come to the birth, and, strength, is there none to bring forth!
3 Eles lhe disseram: “Assim diz o rei Ezequias: ‘Hoje é um dia de angústia, insulto e humilhação. É como quando a criança está prestes a nascer, mas a mãe não tem forças para dar à luz.
4 It may be that Yahweh thy God will hear all the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his lord hath sent, to reproach a Living God, and will rebuke the words, which Yahweh thy God hath heard,Wherefore lift thou up a prayer, for the remnant that remaineth.
4 Contudo, talvez o S enhor , seu Deus, tenha ouvido o porta-voz que o rei da Assíria enviou para desafiar o Deus vivo e o castigue por suas palavras. Por favor, ore por nós que restamos!’”.
5 So the servants of King Hezekiah came unto Isaiah.
5 Depois que os oficiais do rei Ezequias transmitiram a mensagem ao profeta Isaías,
6 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus, shall ye, say, unto your lord,Thus, saith YahwehBe not thou afraid, because of the words which thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have reviled, me:
6 ele respondeu: “Digam ao rei que assim diz o S enhor : ‘Não se assuste com os insultos que os mensageiros do rei da Assíria lançaram contra mim.
7 Behold me! about to let go against him, a blast, and, when he heareth the report, then will he return to his own country,and I will cause him to fall by the sword, in his own land.
7 Ouça! Eu mesmo agirei contra o rei da Assíria, e ele receberá notícias que o farão voltar para sua terra. Ali eu providenciarei que ele seja morto à espada’”.
8 So Rab-shakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah,for he had heard that he had broken up from Lachish.
8 Enquanto isso, o porta-voz partiu de Jerusalém e foi consultar o rei da Assíria, pois tinha sido informado de que o rei havia deixado Laquis e estava atacando Libna.
9 And when he heard say of Tirhakah, king of Ethiopia, saying, Lo! he hath come forth to fight with thee,then he again sent messengers unto Hezekiah, saying
9 Logo depois, o rei Senaqueribe recebeu a notícia de que Tiraca, rei da Etiópia, havia saído com seu exército para lutar contra ele. Então enviou seus homens de volta a Ezequias em Jerusalém com a seguinte mensagem:
10 Thus, shall ye, speak, unto Hezekiah king of Judah, sayingLet not thy God in whom thou art trusting beguile thee, saying,Jerusalem shall not be given over, into the hand of the king of Assyria.
10 “Esta é uma mensagem para Ezequias, rei de Judá. Não deixe que seu Deus, em quem você confia, o engane com promessas de que Jerusalém não será conquistada pelo rei da Assíria.
11 Lo! thou thyself, hast heard, what the kings of Assyria have done to all the lands, in devoting them to destruction,and shalt, thou, be delivered?
11 Você sabe muito bem o que os reis da Assíria fizeram por onde passaram. Destruíram completamente todos que atravessaram seu caminho! Quem é você para escapar?
12 Did the gods of the nations, deliver them, whom my fathers destroyed, Gozan, and Haran,and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who were in Telassar?
12 Acaso os deuses de outras nações, como Gozã, Harã, Rezefe, e o povo de Éden, que estava em Telassar, as livraram? Meus antecessores destruíram todos eles!
13 Where are the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim,of Hena, and Ivvah?
13 O que aconteceu ao rei de Hamate e ao rei de Arpade? O que aconteceu aos reis de Sefarvaim, de Hena e de Iva?”.
14 And, when Hezekiah had received the letter at the hand of the messengers, and had read it, then went he up to the house of Yahweh, and Hezekiah spread it out before Yahweh.
14 Depois que Ezequias recebeu a carta dos mensageiros e a leu, subiu ao templo do S enhor e a estendeu diante do S enhor .
15 And Hezekiah prayed before Yahweh, and said, O Yahweh, God of Israel, inhabiting the cherubim, thou thyself, art GOD, alone, for all the kingdoms of the earth,thou, didst make the heavens and the earth.
15 Então Ezequias fez esta oração na presença do S enhor : “Ó S enhor , o Deus de Israel, que estás entronizado entre os querubins! Só tu és Deus de todos os reinos da terra. Sim, tu criaste os céus e a terra.
16 Bow down, O Yahweh, thine ear, and hear, Open, O Yahweh, thine eyes, and see,yea hear thou the words of Sennacherib, who hath sentTo reproach a Living God!
16 Inclina teus ouvidos, ó S enhor , e ouve! Abre teus olhos, ó S enhor , e vê! Ouve as palavras com as quais Senaqueribe desafia o Deus vivo!
17 Of a truth, O Yahweh,the kings of Assyria have devoted to destruction the nations and their lands;
17 “É verdade, S enhor , que os reis da Assíria destruíram todas essas nações.
18 and have put their gods in the fire,for, no-gods, were, they, but the work of the hands of menwood and stone, and so they destroyed them.
18 Lançaram os deuses dessas nações no fogo e os queimaram. É claro que os assírios conseguiram destruí-los! Não eram deuses de verdade, mas apenas ídolos de madeira e pedra moldados por mãos humanas.
19 Now, therefore, O Yahweh our God, save us we pray thee, out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know, that, thou, Yahweh, art God, alone!
19 Agora, S enhor , nosso Deus, salva-nos do poder desse rei; então todos os reinos da terra saberão que somente tu, S enhor , és Deus!”.
20 Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying,Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, What thou hast prayed unto me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard.
20 Então Isaías, filho de Amoz, enviou esta mensagem a Ezequias: “Assim diz o S enhor , o Deus de Israel: Ouvi sua oração a respeito de Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria.
21 This, is the word that Yahweh hath spoken concerning him,The virgin daughter of Zion, laugheth thee to scorn, mocketh thee, The daughter of Jerusalem, after thee, doth wag her head.
21 E o S enhor proferiu esta palavra contra ele: “A filha virgem de Sião o despreza e ri de você. A filha de Jerusalém balança a cabeça com desdém enquanto você foge.
22 Whom, hast thou reproached, and insulted? and, against whom, hast thou lifted high thy voice? yea thou hast proudly raised thine eyes, against the Holy One of Israel.
22 “A quem você desafiou e de quem zombou? Contra quem levantou a voz? Para quem olhou com arrogância? Para o Santo de Israel!
23 Through thy messengers, thou hast reproached My Lord, and hast saidWith my multitude of chariots, have I ascended the height of the mountains, the recesses of Lebanon,and have cut down its tallest cedars, its choicest firs, and have entered the shelter of its summit, its thick garden forests.
23 Por meio de seus mensageiros, desafiou o Senhor. Disse: ‘Com meus numerosos carros de guerra, conquistei os montes mais elevados, sim, os picos mais remotos do Líbano. Cortei seus cedros mais altos e seus melhores ciprestes. Cheguei a suas regiões mais distantes e explorei suas florestas mais densas.
24 I, have digged, and have drunk foreign waters,and have dried up, with the soles of my feet, all the streams of besieged places.
24 Cavei poços em muitas terras estrangeiras e me refresquei com sua água. Com a sola de meu pé, sequei todos os rios do Egito!’.
25 Hast thou not heardthat, long ago, that, is what I appointed, and, from days of old, devised it? Now, have I brought it to pass, that thou mightest serve to lay waste, in desolate ruins, fortified cities;
25 “Mas você não sabe? Eu decidi tudo isso há muito tempo. Planejei essas coisas no passado distante, e agora as realizo. Planejei que você transformaria cidades fortificadas em montes de escombros.
26 And, their inhabitants, being powerless, were overthrown and put to shame,they became grass of the field, and young herbage, grass on housetops, and seed withered before it came up.
26 Por isso, seus habitantes perdem as forças e ficam assustados e envergonhados. São frágeis como a relva, indefesos como brotos verdes e tenros. São como capim que surge no telhado, queimado antes mesmo de crescer.
27 Howbeit, thine abode, and thy coming out and thy going in, I know,and thy raging against me.
27 “Mas eu o conheço bem: sei onde está e sei de suas idas e vindas; sei como se enfureceu contra mim.
28 Because, thy raging against me, and thy contempt, have come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my ring in thy nose, and my bit in thy lips, and will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
28 E, por causa de sua raiva contra mim e de sua arrogância, que eu mesmo ouvi, porei minha argola em seu nariz e meu freio em sua boca. Eu o farei voltar pelo mesmo caminho por onde veio”.
29 And, this unto thee, is the signEating, this year, the growth of scattered seeds, and, in the second year, that which groweth after,then, in the third year, sow ye and reap, plant ye vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof;
29 Então Isaías disse a Ezequias: “Esta é a prova de que minhas palavras são verdadeiras: “Neste ano vocês comerão somente o que crescer por si, e, no ano seguinte, o que brotar disso. Mas, no terceiro ano, semeiem e colham, cuidem de suas videiras e comam de seus frutos.
30 Then shall the escaped of the house of Judah that remain, againtake root downward, and bear fruit upward;
30 Vocês que restarem em Judá, os que escaparem da destruição, lançarão raízes em seu próprio solo, crescerão e darão frutos.
31 For, out of Jerusalem, shall go forth a remnant, and that which hath escapedout of Mount Zion,the jealousy of Yahweh of hosts, will perform this.
31 Pois um remanescente de meu povo sairá de Jerusalém, um grupo de sobreviventes partirá do monte Sião. O zelo do S fará que isso aconteça!
32 ThereforeThus, saith Yahweh, concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not enter this city, nor shoot there, an arrow,nor attack it with shield, nor cast up against it, a mound;
32 “E assim diz o S enhor a respeito do rei da Assíria: “Seus exércitos não entrarão em Jerusalém, nem dispararão contra ela uma só flecha. Não marcharão com escudos fora de suas portas, nem construirão rampas de terra contra seus muros.
33 By the way that he cometh in, by the same, shall he return,and, into this city, shall he not enter, declareth Yahweh!
33 O rei voltará à terra dele pelo mesmo caminho por onde veio. Não entrará na cidade, diz o S
34 Thus will I throw a covering over this city, to save it,for mine own sake, and for the sake of David my servant.
34 Por minha própria honra e por causa de meu servo Davi, defenderei esta cidade e a libertarei”.
35 And it came to pass, during that night, that the messenger of Yahweh went forth, and smote, in the camp of the Assyrians, a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And, when men arose early in the morning, lo! they were all, dead bodies!
35 Naquela noite, o anjo do S enhor foi ao acampamento assírio e matou 185 mil soldados assírios. Quando os sobreviventes acordaram na manhã seguinte, encontraram cadáveres por toda parte.
36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria brake up, and went his way, and returned,and remained in Nineveh.
36 Então Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, levantou acampamento e partiu para sua terra. Voltou para Nínive e ali ficou.
37 And it came to pass, as he was bowing down in the house of Nisroch his god, that, Adrammelech and Sharezer
37 Certo dia, enquanto ele adorava no templo de seu deus Nisroque, seus filhos Adrameleque e Sarezer o mataram à espada. Fugiram para a terra de Ararate, e outro filho, Esar-Hadom, se tornou seu sucessor na Assíria.
