1 WHAT shall we say then? Shall we remain in sin so that grace may be great?
1 Que diremos pois? Permaneceremos no pecado, para que a graça abunde?
2 Never. How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
2 De modo nenhum. Nós, que estamos mortos para o pecado, como viveremos ainda nele?
3 Are you ignorant that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
3 Ou não sabeis que todos quantos fomos batizados em Jesus Cristo fomos batizados na sua morte?
4 We were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
4 De sorte que fomos sepultados com ele pelo batismo na morte; para que, como Cristo foi ressuscitado dentre os mortos, pela glória do Pai, assim andemos nós também em novidade de vida.
5 For if we have grown into union with him by the likeness of his death, surely we shall be united with him by the likeness of his resurrection.
5 Porque, se fomos plantados juntamente com ele na semelhança da sua morte, também o seremos na da sua ressurreição;
6 For we know this, that our old-time humanity was crucified with him, in order that the sinful body might be made powerless, that we might no longer be slaves of sin.
6 Sabendo isto, que o nosso homem velho foi com ele crucificado, para que o corpo do pecado seja desfeito, para que não sirvamos mais ao pecado.
7 For one who has died has been pronounced righteous and free from sin.
7 Porque aquele que está morto está justificado do pecado.
8 But if we died with Christ we believe that we shall live with him,
8 Ora, se já morremos com Cristo, cremos que também com ele viveremos;
9 knowing that Christ, after being raised from the dead, dies no more; death no more reigns over him.
9 Sabendo que, tendo sido Cristo ressuscitado dentre os mortos, já não morre; a morte não mais tem domínio sobre ele.
10 For the death that he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life that he lives, he lives to God.
10 Pois, quanto a ter morrido, de uma vez morreu para o pecado; mas, quanto a viver, vive para Deus.
11 So you must think yourselves dead to sin, but living to God in Christ Jesus.
11 Assim também vós considerai-vos certamente mortos para o pecado, mas vivos para Deus em Cristo Jesus nosso Senhor.
12 Do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you will obey its lusts,
12 Não reine, portanto, o pecado em vosso corpo mortal, para lhe obedecerdes em suas concupiscências;
13 and do not yield your members to sin as the instruments of wickedness; but present yourselves to God as men once dead, but now living, and yield your members to God as the instruments of righteousness.
13 Nem tampouco apresenteis os vossos membros ao pecado por instrumentos de iniqüidade; mas apresentai-vos a Deus, como vivos dentre mortos, e os vossos membros a Deus, como instrumentos de justiça.
14 For sin shall not be king over you; for you are not under law, but under grace.
14 Porque o pecado não terá domínio sobre vós, pois não estais debaixo da lei, mas debaixo da graça.
15 What then? May we sin because we are not under law, but under grace? Never.
15 Pois que? Pecaremos porque não estamos debaixo da lei, mas debaixo da graça? De modo nenhum.
16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves as servants intending obedience, you are the servants of the one you obey, whether of sin, resulting in death, or of obedience, resulting in righteousness?
16 Não sabeis vós que a quem vos apresentardes por servos para lhe obedecer, sois servos daquele a quem obedeceis, ou do pecado para a morte, ou da obediência para a justiça?
17 Thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin you became obedient from the heart to the type of teaching in which you were instructed.
17 Mas graças a Deus que, tendo sido servos do pecado, obedecestes de coração à forma de doutrina a que fostes entregues.
18 You were made free from sin and made servants to righteousness.
18 E, libertados do pecado, fostes feitos servos da justiça.
19 I am speaking humanly on account of the weakness of your human nature. As you did present your members as servants to impurity and to lawlessness to do lawlessness, so now you have presented your members as servants to righteousness for holy living.
19 Falo como homem, pela fraqueza da vossa carne; pois que, assim como apresentastes os vossos membros para servirem à imundícia, e à maldade para maldade, assim apresentai agora os vossos membros para servirem à justiça para santificação.
20 When you were servants of sin you were free from righteousness.
20 Porque, quando éreis servos do pecado, estáveis livres da justiça.
21 What fruit did you have then? Fruit of which you are now ashamed; for the end of those things is death.
21 E que fruto tínheis então das coisas de que agora vos envergonhais? Porque o fim delas é a morte.
22 But now freed from sin and having become servants of God you have your fruit in holy living and its outcome, life eternal.
22 Mas agora, libertados do pecado, e feitos servos de Deus, tendes o vosso fruto para santificação, e por fim a vida eterna.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is life eternal in Christ Jesus our Lord.
23 Porque o salário do pecado é a morte, mas o dom gratuito de Deus é a vida eterna, por Cristo Jesus nosso Senhor.
