1 FOR, this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham when he was returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him,
1 Porque este Melquisedeque, rei de Salém, sacerdote do Deus Altíssimo, foi ao encontro de Abraão, quando este voltava da matança dos reis, e o abençoou.
2 and to whom Abraham gave a tenth of all
2 Foi para ele que Abraão separou o dízimo de tudo. Primeiramente o nome dele significa “rei da justiça”; depois também é “rei de Salém”, ou seja, “rei da paz”.
3 without father, without mother, without ancestors, without either birthday or end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest permanently.
3 Sem pai, sem mãe, sem genealogia, ele não teve princípio de dias nem fim de existência, mas, feito semelhante ao Filho de Deus, permanece sacerdote para sempre.
4 But see how great this man was, since Abraham the patriarch gave him a tenth of his choicest spoils.
4 Vejam como era grande esse a quem Abraão, o patriarca, pagou o dízimo tirado dos melhores despojos.
5 And even those of the sons of Levi who attain the priesthood have command according to the Law to take a tenth from the people, their own brethren, although these have sprung from the loins of Abraham.
5 Ora, os que dentre os filhos de Levi recebem o sacerdócio têm ordem, de acordo com a lei, de recolher os dízimos do povo, ou seja, dos seus irmãos, embora estes sejam descendentes de Abraão.
6 But he who had no genealogy from these took a tenth from Abraham and pronounced a blessing on him who had the promises.
6 Entretanto, aquele cuja genealogia não se inclui entre os filhos de Levi recebeu dízimos de Abraão e abençoou aquele que havia recebido as promessas.
7 Without dispute the less is blessed by the greater.
7 Evidentemente, não há dúvida de que o inferior é abençoado pelo superior.
8 And here mortal men receive tenths, but there one of whom the witness is that he is living.
8 Aliás, aqui os que recebem dízimos são homens mortais, porém ali o dízimo foi recebido por aquele de quem se testifica que vive.
9 And, to put it frankly, Levi, who receives the tenths, was made to pay a tenth through Abraham.
9 E, por assim dizer, também Levi, que recebe dízimos, pagou-os na pessoa de Abraão.
10 For he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met Abraham.
10 Porque Levi, por assim dizer, já estava no corpo de seu pai Abraão, quando Melquisedeque foi ao encontro deste.
11 If, then, perfection had been through the Levitical priesthood, \'97 for on the basis of that the people received the Law \'97 what need was there for another kind of priest to arise and not be called of the order of Aaron?
11 Portanto, se a perfeição fosse possível por meio do sacerdócio levítico — pois foi com base nele que o povo recebeu a lei —, que necessidade haveria ainda de que se levantasse outro sacerdote, segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque, e não segundo a ordem de Arão?
12 For when the priesthood has been changed there comes of necessity also a change of law.
12 Pois, quando se muda o sacerdócio, necessariamente muda também a lei.
13 For he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no one has ever had anything to do with the altar.
13 Porque aquele de quem são ditas estas coisas pertence a outra tribo, da qual ninguém prestou serviço diante do altar.
14 For it is plain that our Lord has arisen from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.
14 Pois é evidente que nosso Senhor procedeu de Judá, tribo à qual Moisés nunca falou nada a respeito de sacerdócio.
15 And this is yet more abundantly evident if after the order of Melchizedek there arises a priest of a different kind
15 E isto é ainda muito mais evidente, quando, à semelhança de Melquisedeque, surge outro sacerdote,
16 who has become such, not according to the law of a commandment made for the flesh, but according to the power of unending life.
16 constituído não conforme a lei de mandamento carnal, mas segundo o poder de vida que não tem fim.
17 For it is affirmed of him, "Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek."
17 Porque dele se testifica: “Você é sacerdote para sempre, segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque.”
18 There is a setting aside of the earlier commandment because of its weakness and uselessness \'97
18 Portanto, por um lado, se revoga a ordenança anterior, por causa de sua fraqueza e inutilidade,
19 for the Law brought nothing to perfection \'97 and there is the bringing in of a better hope through which we draw near to God.
19 pois a lei nunca aperfeiçoou coisa alguma; e, por outro lado, se introduz esperança superior, pela qual nos chegamos a Deus.
20 And just as it was not without an oath \'97
20 E isto não se deu sem juramento. Porque os outros são feitos sacerdotes sem juramento,
21 for those men have become priests without an oath, but he with an oath from him who said to him, "The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: thou art a priest forever" \'97
21 mas este foi feito sacerdote com juramento, por aquele que lhe disse: “O Senhor jurou e não se arrependerá: ‘Você é sacerdote para sempre.’”
22 by so much better is the covenant of which Jesus has become surety.
22 Por isso mesmo, Jesus se tornou fiador de superior aliança.
23 And many of them became priests because they were prevented by death from continuing,
23 Ora, os outros são feitos sacerdotes em maior número, porque a morte os impede de continuar;
24 but he, because he continues forever, has an unending priesthood.
24 Jesus, no entanto, porque continua para sempre, tem o seu sacerdócio imutável.
25 And so he is able to save perfectly those who come to God through him, since he is forever living to intercede for them.
25 Por isso, também pode salvar totalmente os que por ele se aproximam de Deus, vivendo sempre para interceder por eles.
26 For such was the High Priest that we needed, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens.
26 Porque nos convinha um sumo sacerdote como este, santo, inculpável, sem mácula, separado dos pecadores e exaltado acima dos céus,
27 He has not the daily need, like the other priests, first to offer sacrifices for his own sins and then for those of the people. This latter he did once for all when he offered himself.
27 que não tem necessidade, como os outros sumos sacerdotes, de oferecer sacrifícios todos os dias, primeiro, por seus próprios pecados, depois, pelos do povo; porque fez isto uma vez por todas, quando a si mesmo ofereceu.
28 For the Law makes high priests of men who have infirmities, but the word of the oath, which comes after the Law, makes High Priest of a Son who is perfected forever.
28 Porque a lei constitui homens sujeitos a fraquezas como sumos sacerdotes, mas a palavra do juramento, que foi posterior à lei, constitui o Filho, perfeito para sempre.
