1 »The people of Ephraim try to catch the wind and try to chase the east wind all day. They are very dishonest, violent and destructive. They make treaties with Assyria and take olive oil to Egypt.
1 Efraim se alimenta de vento, e segue o vento leste; multiplica a mentira e a destruição diariamente; fazem pacto com os assírios, e o azeite é levado ao Egito.
2 »Jehovah brings legal charges against Judah and punishes Jacob because of the way their people act. He will pay them back for what they have done.
2 O SENHOR também tem uma controvérsia com Judá, e punirá Jacó segundo os seus caminhos; segundo as suas obras ele o recompensará.
3 »Their ancestor Jacob held on to his brother's heel while the two of them were in their mother's womb. When Jacob became a man, he struggled with God.
3 No ventre, pegou seu irmão pelo calcanhar, e em seu vigor teve força com Deus.
4 He struggled with the angel and won. Jacob cried and pleaded with him. Jacob found him at Bethel, and he talked with him there.
4 Sim, ele teve força sobre o anjo, e prevaleceu; chorou, e lhe suplicou; ele o achou em Betel, e ali falou conosco.
5 »Jehovah is the God of Hosts. Jehovah is the name by which he is remembered.
5 Sim, o SENHOR, o Deus dos Exércitos; o SENHOR é o seu memorial.
6 »Return to your God. Constantly express loving kindness and justice. Always wait with hope in your God.
6 Portanto, converte-te a teu Deus; guarda a misericórdia e o juízo, e espera em teu Deus continuamente.
7 Jehovah says: »The merchants use dishonest scales. They love to cheat people.
7 Ele é um mercador; as balanças do engano estão em suas mãos; ele ama oprimir.
8 »The people of Ephraim say: We are rich. We have made a fortune. With all this wealth, no one will find us guilty of any sin.
8 E Efraim diz: Contudo, tornei-me rico, e tenho adquirido para mim grandes bens; em todo o meu trabalho não acharão em mim iniquidade alguma que seja pecado.
9 »I am Jehovah your God. I brought you out of Egypt. I will make you live in tents again as you did during your appointed festivals.
9 Mas eu sou o SENHOR teu Deus desde a terra do Egito; eu ainda te farei habitar em tabernáculos, como nos dias da festa solene.
10 »I spoke to the prophets and gave them many visions. I taught lessons through the prophets.
10 Eu também falei pelos profetas, e multipliquei as visões; e propus símiles pelo ministério dos profetas.
11 »The people of Gilead are evil. They are worthless. They sacrifice bulls in Gilgal. But their altars will become like piles of rubble beside a plowed field.
11 Existe iniquidade em Gileade? Certamente são pura vaidade; sacrificam bois em Gilgal; os seus altares são como montes de pedras nos sulcos dos campos.
12 »Jacob fled to the country of Syria. Israel worked to get a wife. He took care of sheep to pay for her.
12 Jacó fugiu para o país da Síria, e Israel serviu por uma esposa, e por uma esposa cuidou de ovelhas.
13 »Jehovah used a prophet to bring the people of Israel out of Egypt. He used a prophet to take care of them.
13 Mas por meio de um profeta o SENHOR tirou Israel do Egito, e por um profeta ele foi preservado.
14 »The people of Ephraim made Jehovah bitter. He will hold them guilty of murder. Jehovah will pay them back for their insults.«
14 Efraim o provocou à ira amargamente; portanto, deixará ficar o seu sangue sobre ele, e o seu Senhor o recompensará pelo seu desprezo.
