1 The word of Jehovah came to Jonah a second time:
1 E a palavra do SENHOR veio a Jonas pela segunda vez, dizendo:
2 »Arise and go to the great city, Nineveh. Proclaim to it the proclamation I give you.«
2 Levanta-te, vai à Nínive, aquela grande cidade, e prega contra ela a mensagem que eu te ofereço.
3 So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of Jehovah. Nineveh was a very important and large city, a three days' walk from one side to the other.
3 Então Jonas se levantou, e foi a Nínive, segundo a palavra do SENHOR. Ora, Nínive era uma cidade muito grande, de três dias de jornada.
4 Jonah began to enter into the city, a day's journey walking, and he shouted: »Nineveh will be overthrown in Forty days.«
4 E Jonas começou a entrar pela cidade jornada de um dia, e clamava, dizendo: ainda quarenta dias, e Nínive será derrubada.
5 The people of Nineveh believed God and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
5 Assim as pessoas de Nínive creram em Deus, e proclamaram um jejum, e vestiram-se de pano de saco, desde o maior até ao menor.
6 The news reached the king of Nineveh. He left his throne, and took off his robe and covered himself with sackcloth. Then he sat in ashes.
6 Assim, pois, a palavra chegou ao rei de Nínive; e ele levantou-se do seu trono, tirou de si as suas vestes, cobriu-se de pano de saco, e sentou-se sobre a cinza.
7 He made proclamation and published it in Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying: »Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not eat, nor drink water.
7 E ele fez com que isso fosse proclamado e divulgado através de Nínive, pelo decreto do rei e dos seus nobres, dizendo: nem homens, nem animais, nem bois, nem ovelhas provem coisa alguma; nem se lhes dê alimentos, nem bebam água;
8 »Let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and beast. Let them sincerely call on God! Let them turn away each one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.
8 mas os homens e os animais sejam cobertos de pano de saco, e clamem poderosamente a Deus; sim, convertam-se, cada um do seu caminho mal, e da violência que está nas suas mãos.
9 »Who knows whether God will turn back and change his mind, and turn away from his fierce anger that we will not perish?«
9 Quem pode dizer se Deus voltará e se arrependerá, e se apartará do furor da sua ira, para que nós não pereçamos?
10 God saw their works! That they turned from their evil way. God turned back from the deed that he said he would do to them. He did not do it.
10 E Deus viu as suas obras, como se desviaram do seu mau caminho; e Deus se arrependeu do mal que tinha anunciado que faria a eles, e não o fez.
