1 Jehovah said to Moses: »You and Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of Israels elders come up the mountain to me and worship at a distance.
1 Então o S enhor disse a Moisés: “Suba ao monte para encontrar-se comigo e traga Arão, Nadabe, Abiú e setenta líderes de Israel. Todos devem adorar de longe.
2 »Moses alone may come near Jehovah. The others may not. The people must not come along with Moses.«
2 Somente Moisés está autorizado a se aproximar do S enhor . Os outros não devem chegar perto, e ninguém mais do povo tem permissão de subir ao monte com ele”.
3 Moses told the people all Jehovahs words and legal decisions. Then all the people answered with one voice: »We will do everything Jehovah told us to do.«
3 Moisés desceu e transmitiu ao povo todas as instruções e ordens do S enhor , e todo o povo respondeu em uma só voz: “Faremos tudo que o S enhor ordenou!”.
4 Moses wrote down all Jehovahs words. Early the next morning he built an altar at the foot of the mountain. He erected twelve sacred stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.
4 Moisés anotou com exatidão todas as instruções do S enhor . Logo cedo na manhã seguinte, levantou-se e construiu um altar ao pé do monte. Também ergueu doze colunas, uma para cada tribo de Israel.
5 Moses sent young men to burn sacrifices to Jehovah. They sacrificed some cattle as peace offerings.
5 Em seguida, enviou alguns rapazes israelitas para apresentarem ao S enhor holocaustos e touros sacrificados como ofertas de paz.
6 Moses took half of the blood of the animals and put it in bowls. The other half he threw against the altar.
6 Moisés colocou em vasilhas metade do sangue desses animais e aspergiu a outra metade sobre o altar.
7 He took the book of the covenant, in which Jehovahs commandments were written, and read it aloud to the people. They said: »We will obey Jehovah. We will do everything that he has commanded.«
7 Depois, pegou o Livro da Aliança e o leu em voz alta para o povo. Mais uma vez, todos responderam: “Obedeceremos ao S enhor ! Faremos tudo que ele ordenou!”.
8 Moses took the blood from the bowls and sprinkled it on the people. Next, he told them: With this blood Jehovah makes his agreement with you.
8 Moisés pegou o sangue das vasilhas, aspergiu-o sobre o povo e declarou: “Este sangue confirma a aliança que o S enhor fez com vocês quando lhes deu estas instruções”.
9 Moses and Aaron, together with Nadab and Abihu and the seventy leaders, went up the mountain.
9 Depois, Moisés, Arão, Nadabe, Abiú e os setenta líderes de Israel subiram ao monte,
10 They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something that looked like a pavement made out of sapphire. It was as bright as the sky.
10 onde viram o Deus de Israel, e sob os pés dele havia uma superfície azulada como a safira e clara como o céu.
11 Even though these leaders of Israel saw God, he did not punish them. So they ate and drank.
11 E, embora esses nobres de Israel tenham visto Deus, ele não os destruiu, e eles participaram de uma refeição na presença dele.
12 Jehovah said to Moses: »Come up on the mountain and stay here for a while. I will give you the two stone tablets on which I have written the laws that my people must obey.«
12 Então o S enhor disse a Moisés: “Suba ao monte para encontrar-se comigo. Fique lá e eu lhe darei tábuas de pedra nas quais gravei a lei e os mandamentos para ensinar ao povo”.
13 Moses and Joshua his assistant got ready. Moses started up the mountain to meet with God.
13 Moisés e seu auxiliar, Josué, partiram e subiram ao monte de Deus.
14 He said to the elders: »Wait here for us until we return to you. Aaron and Hur are with you. Anyone with a legal matter should approach them.«
14 “Esperem aqui até voltarmos”, disse Moisés aos líderes. “Arão e Hur ficarão com vocês. Quem tiver algum problema para resolver durante minha ausência poderá consultá-los.”
15 Moses went up to the mountain. The cloud covered the mountain.
15 Então Moisés subiu ao monte, e a nuvem cobriu o monte.
16 The glory of Jehovah rested on Mount Sinai. The cloud covered it for six days. God called to Moses on the seventh day. He spoke from inside the cloud.
16 A glória do S enhor pousou sobre o monte Sinai, e a nuvem o cobriu por seis dias. No sétimo dia, o S enhor chamou Moisés de dentro da nuvem.
17 To the eyes of the Israelites the appearance of the glory of Jehovah was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain.
17 Para os israelitas que estavam ao pé do monte, a glória do S enhor no alto do Sinai parecia um fogo consumidor.
18 Moses entered the midst of the cloud as he went up to the mountain. He was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
18 Moisés desapareceu na nuvem ao subir ao monte e ali permaneceu quarenta dias e quarenta noites.
