1 Jehoash became king of Judah. It was the seventh year of Jehu's rule over Israel. Jehoash ruled for forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
1 No sétimo ano do reinado de Jeú, Joás começou a reinar, e reinou quarenta anos em Jerusalém. O nome de sua mãe era Zíbia; ela era de Berseba.
2 Jehoash did what was right in the eyes of Jehovah all his days, because he was guided by the teaching of Jehoiada the priest.
2 Joás fez o que o Senhor aprova durante todos os anos em que o sacerdote Joiada o orientou.
3 The high places were not taken away. The people continued making offerings and burning them in the high places.
3 Contudo, os altares idólatras não foram derrubados; o povo continuava a oferecer sacrifícios e a queimar incenso neles.
4 Jehoash said to the priests: »All the money of the holy things, which comes into the house of Jehovah, the amount fixed for every man's payment, and all the money given by any man freely by motivation of his heart,
4 Joás ordenou aos sacerdotes: "Reúnam toda a prata trazida como dádivas sagradas ao templo do Senhor: a prata recolhida no recenseamento, a prata recebida de votos pessoais e a que foi trazida voluntariamente ao templo.
5 »Let the priests take, every man from his friends and neighbors, to make good what is damaged in the Temple, wherever it is to be seen.«
5 Cada sacerdote recolha a prata de um dos tesoureiros para que seja usada na reforma do templo".
6 But in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash, the priests had not made good the damaged parts of the Temple.
6 Contudo, no vigésimo terceiro ano do reinado de Joás, os sacerdotes ainda não tinham feito as reformas.
7 He called in Jehoiada and the other priests and asked them: »Why are you not repairing the Temple? From now on you are not to keep the money you receive. You must hand it over, so that the repairs can be made.«
7 Por isso, o rei Joás chamou o sacerdote Joiada e os outros sacerdotes e lhes perguntou: "Por que vocês não estão fazendo as reformas no templo? Não recolham mais prata com seus tesoureiros, mas deixem-na para as reformas".
8 The priests agreed to this and also agreed not to make the repairs in the Temple.
8 Os sacerdotes concordaram em não mais receber nenhuma prata do povo e em não serem mais os encarregados dessas reformas.
9 Then Jehoiada took a box, made a hole in the lid, and placed the box by the altar, on the right side as one enters the Temple. The priests on duty at the entrance put in the box all the money given by the worshipers.
9 Então o sacerdote Joiada pegou uma caixa, fez um furo na tampa e colocou-a ao lado do altar, à direita de quem entra no templo do Senhor. Os sacerdotes que guardavam a entrada colocavam na caixa toda a prata trazida ao templo do Senhor.
10 Whenever there was a large amount of money in the box, the royal secretary and the High Priest would come, melt down the silver, and weigh it.
10 Sempre que havia uma grande quantidade de prata na caixa, o secretário real e o sumo sacerdote vinham, pesavam a prata trazida ao templo do Senhor e a colocavam em sacolas.
11 After recording the exact amount, they would hand the silver over to the men in charge of the work in the Temple. These would pay the carpenters, the builders,
11 Depois de pesada, entregavam a prata aos supervisores do trabalho no templo. Assim pagavam aqueles que trabalhavam no templo do Senhor: os carpinteiros e construtores,
12 the masons, and the stonecutters, buy the timber and the stones used in the repairs, and pay all other necessary expenses.
12 os pedreiros e cortadores de pedras. Também compravam madeira e pedras lavradas para os consertos no templo do Senhor e cobriam todas as outras despesas.
13 None of the money was used to pay for making silver cups, bowls, trumpets, or tools for tending the lamps, or any other article of silver or of gold.
13 A prata trazida ao templo não era utilizada na confecção de bacias de prata, cortadores de pavio, bacias para aspersão, cornetas ou quaisquer outros utensílios de ouro ou prata para o templo do Senhor;
14 It was all used to pay the workers and to buy the materials used in the repairs.
14 era usada como pagamento dos trabalhadores, que a empregavam para o reparo do templo.
15 The men in charge of the work were very honest. There was no need to require them to account for the funds.
15 Não se exigia prestação de contas dos que pagavam os trabalhadores, pois agiam com honestidade.
16 The money given for the repayment offerings and for the offerings for sin was not deposited in the box. It belonged to the priests.
16 Mas a prata das ofertas pela culpa e das ofertas pelo pecado não era levada ao templo do Senhor, pois pertencia aos sacerdotes.
17 King Hazael of Syria attacked the city of Gath and conquered it. Then he decided to attack Jerusalem.
17 Nessa época, Hazael, rei da Síria, atacou Gate e a conquistou. Depois decidiu atacar Jerusalém.
18 King Jehoash of Judah took all the offerings that his predecessors Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah had dedicated to Jehovah, added to them his own offerings and all the gold in the treasuries of the Temple and the palace, and sent them all as a gift to King Hazael, who then led his army away from Jerusalem.
18 Então Joás, rei de Judá, apanhou todos os objetos consagrados por seus antepassados Josafá, Jeorão e Acazias, reis de Judá, e os que ele mesmo havia consagrado e todo o ouro encontrado no depósito do templo do Senhor e do palácio real, e enviou tudo a Hazael, rei da Síria, que, assim, desistiu de atacar Jerusalém.

21 Jehoash's officials Jozacar, son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of Shomer, executed him. They buried him with his ancestors in the City of David. His son Amaziah succeeded him as king.
21 Os oficiais que o assassinaram foram Jozabade, filho de Simeate, e Jeozabade, filho de Somer. Ele morreu e foi sepultado junto aos seus antepassados na cidade de Davi. E seu filho Amazias foi o seu sucessor.
