1 Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. Jehu sent letters to Samaria, to the rulers of the town, and to the elders, and to those who took care of the sons of Ahab. The letter stated:
1 E Acabe tinha setenta filhos em Samaria. E Jeú escreveu cartas, e enviou-as para Samaria, para os governantes de Jezreel, para os anciãos, e para aqueles que criavam os filhos de Acabe, dizendo:
2 »You are in charge of the king's descendants, and you have at your disposal chariots, horses, weapons, and fortified cities. As soon as you receive this letter,
2 Agora, tão logo esta carta chegue a vós, vendo que os filhos do vosso mestre estão convosco, e que há convosco carruagens e cavalos, também uma cidade fortificada, e armadura;
3 choose the best qualified of the king's descendants and make him king, and fight to defend him.«
3 procurai mesmo o melhor e o mais correto dos filhos do vosso senhor, e ponde-o no trono do seu pai, e lutai pela casa do vosso senhor.
4 The rulers of Samaria were terrified. They said: »How can we oppose Jehu when neither King Joram nor King Ahaziah could?«
4 Porém eles estavam mui temerosos, e disseram: Eis que dois reis não ficaram de pé diante dele; como então ficaremos nós de pé?
5 So the officer in charge of the palace and the official in charge of the city, together with the leading citizens and the guardians, sent this message to Jehu: »We are your servants, and we are ready to do anything you say. But we will not make anyone king. Do whatever you think best.«
5 E aquele que estava sobre a casa, e aquele que estava sobre a cidade, também os anciãos, e os tutores dos filhos, mandaram dizer a Jeú: Nós somos teus servos, e faremos tudo o que tu nos disseres; não faremos rei algum; faz tu aquilo que for bom aos teus olhos.
6 Jehu wrote them another letter: »If you are with me and are ready to follow my orders, bring the heads of King Ahab's descendants to me at Jezreel by this time tomorrow.« The seventy descendants of King Ahab were under the care and were being brought up by the leading citizens of Samaria.
6 Então, ele escreveu uma carta, pela segunda vez, a eles, dizendo: Se vós fordes meus, e se vós atentardes a minha voz, tomai as cabeças dos homens, filhos do vosso senhor, e vinde até mim, em Jezreel, por volta desta hora amanhã. Ora, os filhos do rei, sendo setenta pessoas, estavam com os grandes homens da cidade, os quais os criavam.
7 As soon as Jehu's letter arrived, the leaders of Samaria killed all seventy of Ahab's descendants and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to Jehu at Jezreel.
7 E sucedeu, quando a carta chegou até eles, que eles pegaram os filhos do rei, e mataram setenta pessoas, e colocaram as suas cabeças em cestos, e os enviaram a Jezreel.
8 Jehu was informed that the heads of Ahab's descendants had been brought. He ordered them to be piled up in two heaps at the city gate and left there until the following morning.
8 E ali chegou um mensageiro, e lhe contou, dizendo: Eles trouxeram as cabeças dos filhos do rei. E ele disse: Ponde-as em dois montões à entrada do portão até amanhã.
9 In the morning he went out and said to all the people there: »You are upright people. It is true that I made designs against my master, and put him to death. Who is responsible for the death of all these?
9 E sucedeu, pela manhã, que ele saiu, e se pôs de pé, e disse a todo o povo: Vocês são retos; eis que eu conspirei contra o meu senhor e o matei; mas quem matou todos estes?
10 »You may be certain that nothing Jehovah said about the family of Ahab will be without effect. Jehovah has done what he said by his servant Elijah.«
10 Sabei agora que nada ali cairá por terra da palavra do SENHOR, a qual o SENHOR falou acerca da casa de Acabe; porque o SENHOR tem feito aquilo que ele falou pelo seu servo Elias.
11 Jehu put to death all the rest of the seed of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his relations and his near friends and his priests, till there were no more of them.
11 Assim, Jeú matou todos os que restaram da casa de Acabe em Jezreel, e todos os seus grandes homens, e a sua parentela, e os seus sacerdotes, até não deixar restar mais nenhum deles.
12 Jehu then left for Samaria. He was at the meeting-place of the shepherds of the sheep.
12 E ele se levantou e partiu, e veio até Samaria. E, estando no caminho, junto à casa de tosquia,
13 He came across the brothers of Ahaziah, king of Judah, and asked: »Who are you?« They replied: »We are the brothers of Ahaziah, king of Judah. We are going down to see the children of the king and of the queen.«
13 Jeú se encontrou com os irmãos de Acazias, rei de Judá, e disse: Quem sois vós? E eles responderam: Nós somos os irmãos de Acazias; e descemos para saudar os filhos do rei e os filhos da rainha.
14 He ordered: »Take them alive.« So they took them alive and then killed them at the cistern of the shearing house. He killed all forty-two of them.
14 E ele disse: Apanhai-os vivos. E eles os apanharam vivos, e os mataram junto ao fosso da casa de tosquia, a saber, quarenta e dois homens; tampouco poupou ele qualquer um deles.
15 When he left there he met Jehonadab, the son of Rechab. He greeted him and said to him: »Is your heart true to mine, as mine is to yours?« Jehonadab in answer said: »It is.« Jehu said: »If it is give me your hand.« He gave him his hand and he made him come up into his chariot.
15 E, quando ele havia partido dali, ele desceu diante de Jonadabe, e o filho de Recabe vindo para se encontrar com ele; o saudou, e lhe disse: É reto o teu coração, como o meu coração é com o teu coração? E Jonadabe respondeu: É. Se for, dá-me a tua mão. E ele deu-lhe a sua mão; e ele o fez subir na carruagem.
16 He said: »Come with me and see how I am on fire with zeal for Jehovahs cause.« So he made him go with him in his chariot.
16 E ele disse: Vem comigo, e vê o meu zelo pelo SENHOR. Assim, eles fizeram-no andar na sua carruagem.
17 When Jehu arrived at Samaria, he put to death all those of Ahab's family who were still in Samaria. There were no more of them, as Jehovah had said to Elijah.
17 E, quando ele chegou a Samaria, ele matou todos os que restaram de Acabe em Samaria, até que o destruiu, segundo o dizer do SENHOR, o qual ele falou a Elias.
18 Jehu assembled all the people and said to them: »Ahab was Baal's servant in a small way, but Jehu will be his servant on a great scale.
18 E Jeú reuniu todo o povo, e disse a eles: Acabe serviu um pouco a Baal; mas Jeú servirá muito a ele.
19 »Now send for all the prophets of Baal, all his servants and priests, to come to me. Let no one stay away for I have a great offering to make to Baal. Anyone who is not present will be put to death.« Jehu did this with deceit. It was his purpose to destroy the servants of Baal.
19 Agora, portanto, chamai-me todos os profetas de Baal, todos os seus servos, e todos os seus sacerdotes; que não falte nenhum; porque eu tenho um grande sacrifício para fazer a Baal; qualquer um que faltar, este não viverá. Porém, Jeú fez isto em sutileza, com o intento de poder destruir os adoradores de Baal.
20 Jehu said: »Let there be a special holy meeting for the worship of Baal.« So a public statement was made.
20 E Jeú disse: Proclamai uma assembleia solene para Baal. E eles a proclamaram.
21 Jehu sent through all Israel; and all the servants of Baal came, not one kept away. They entered the house of Baal. It was full from one end to the other end.
21 E Jeú enviou por todo o Israel; e todos os adoradores de Baal vieram, de modo que não houve nenhum homem que não viesse. E eles entraram na casa de Baal; e a casa de Baal estava cheia, de uma extremidade a outra.
22 Jehu said to the keeper of the robes: »Get out robes for all the servants of Baal.« So he got out robes for them.
22 E ele disse àquele que estava a cargo das vestimentas: Traz vestimentas para todos os adoradores de Baal. E ele trouxe-lhes as vestimentas.
23 Jehu, with Jehonadab, the son of Rechab, went into the house of Baal. He said to the servants of Baal: »Make a search with care, to see that no servant of Jehovah is with you, but only servants of Baal.«
23 E Jeú, com Jonadabe, o filho de Recabe, entraram na casa de Baal, e disse aos adoradores de Baal: Examinai, e vede que não haja aqui convosco nenhum dos servos do SENHOR, mas somente os adoradores de Baal.
24 They went in to make offerings and burned offerings. Jehu put eighty men outside. He told them: »If any man whom I give into your hands escapes, he who lets him go will forfeit his own life for that life.«
24 E quando eles entraram para oferecer sacrifícios e ofertas queimadas, Jeú indicou oitenta homens de fora, e disse: Se algum dos homens que eu trouxe às vossas mãos escapar, aquele que o deixar ir, a sua vida será pela vida daquele.
25 As soon as he finished offering the burned offering Jehu said to the armed men and the captains: »Go in and put them to death! Do not let one come out!« So they put them to the sword. Pulling the images to the ground, they went into the holy place of the house of Baal.
25 E sucedeu, tão logo ele terminou de oferecer a oferta queimada, que Jeú disse ao guarda e aos capitães: Entrai, e matai-os; não deixeis nenhum escapar. E eles os feriram com a lâmina da espada; e a guarda e os capitães os lançaram fora, e foram até a cidade da casa de Baal.
26 They removed the image of Asherah from the house of Baal and burned it.
26 E eles removeram as imagens da casa de Baal, e as queimaram.
27 The altar of Baal was pulled down and the house of Baal was broken up and made an unclean place, as it is to this day.
27 E eles derrubaram a imagem de Baal, e derrubaram a casa de Baal, e fizeram dela uma casa de dejetos até este dia.
28 Jehu put an end to the worship of Baal in Israel.
28 Assim, Jeú destruiu Baal de Israel.
29 But Jehu did not keep himself from all the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, and the evil he made Israel do. The gold calves were still worshiped in Bethel and in Dan.
29 Todavia, dos pecados de Jeroboão, o filho de Nebate, que fez Israel pecar, deles não se apartou Jeú, a saber, os bezerros de ouro que estavam em Betel, e que estavam em Dã.
30 Jehovah said to Jehu: »You have done well by doing what is right in my eyes. You carried out my purpose for the family of Ahab. Therefore your sons will be kings of Israel to the fourth generation.«
30 E o SENHOR disse a Jeú: Como tens feito bem em executar aquilo que é reto aos meus olhos, e tens feito à casa de Acabe segundo tudo o que estava no meu coração, os teus filhos da quarta geração se assentarão sobre o trono de Israel.
31 But Jehu did not take care to keep the law of Jehovah with all his heart. He did not keep himself from the sin that Jeroboam did and made Israel do.
31 Porém, Jeú não atentou em andar na lei do SENHOR Deus de Israel de todo o seu coração; porquanto não se apartou dos pecados de Jeroboão, o qual fez Israel pecar.
32 Jehovah began to reduce the size of Israel's territory. King Hazael of Syria conquered all the Israelite territory
32 Naqueles dias, o SENHOR começou a diminuir Israel; e Hazael os feriu em todos os limites de Israel;
33 east of the Jordan, as far south as the town of Aroer on the Arnon River. This included the territories of Gilead and Bashan, where the tribes of Gad, Reuben, and East Manasseh lived.
33 desde o Jordão para o leste, a toda terra de Gileade, os gaditas, e os rubenitas, e os manassitas; desde Aroer, que está junto ao rio Arnom, a saber, Gileade e Basã.
34 Everything else that Jehu did, including his brave deeds, is recorded in The History of the Kings of Israel.
34 Ora, o restante dos atos de Jeú, e tudo o que ele fez, e todo o seu poder, não estão escritos no livro das Crônicas dos reis de Israel?
35 He died and was buried in Samaria. His son Jehoahaz succeeded him as king.
35 E Jeú dormiu com os seus pais; e o sepultaram em Samaria. E Jeoacaz, o seu filho, reinou no seu lugar.
36 Jehu had ruled in Samaria as king of Israel for twenty-eight years.
36 E o tempo em que Jeú reinou sobre Israel em Samaria foi de vinte e oito anos.
