1 Shortly after that the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites came to wage war against Jehoshaphat.
1 E sucedeu que, depois disto, os filhos de Moabe, e os filhos de Amom, e com eles outros dos amonitas, vieram à peleja contra Jeosafá.
2 Some men reported to Jehoshaphat: »A large crowd is coming against you from the other side of the Dead Sea, from Edom. The crowd is already in Hazazon Tamar En Gedi.«
2 Então vieram alguns que avisaram a Jeosafá, dizendo: Vem contra ti uma grande multidão dalém do mar e da Síria; e eis que já estão em Hazazom-Tamar, que é En-Gedi.
3 Jehoshaphat was frightened and decided to ask for Jehovah’s help. He announced a fast throughout Judah.
3 Então Jeosafá temeu, e pôs-se a buscar o Senhor, e apregoou jejum em todo o Judá.
4 The people of Judah gathered to seek Jehovah’s help. They came from every city in Judah.
4 E Judá se ajuntou, para pedir socorro ao Senhor; também de todas as cidades de Judá vieram para buscar ao Senhor.
5 In the new courtyard at Jehovah’s Temple, Jehoshaphat stood in front of the people.
5 E pôs-se Jeosafá em pé na congregação de Judá e de Jerusalém, na casa do Senhor, diante do pátio novo.
6 He prayed aloud: »O Jehovah, God of our ancestors, you rule in heaven over all the nations of the world. You are powerful and mighty. No one can oppose you.
6 E disse: Ah! Senhor Deus de nossos pais, porventura não és tu Deus nos céus? Não és tu que dominas sobre todos os reinos das nações? Na tua mão há força e potência, e não há quem te possa resistir.
7 »You are our God. When your people Israel moved into this land, you drove out the people who were living here and gave the land to the descendants of Abraham, your friend, to be theirs from generation to generation.
7 Porventura, ó nosso Deus, não lançaste fora os moradores desta terra de diante do teu povo Israel, e não a deste para sempre à descendência de Abraão, teu amigo?
8 »Our ancestors lived in this land and built a Temple to honor you.
8 E habitaram nela e edificaram-te nela um santuário ao teu nome, dizendo:
9 »They believed that whenever this land is struck by war, judgement, disease, or famine, your people can pray to you at the Temple. You will hear their prayer and save them.
9 Se algum mal nos sobrevier, espada, juízo, peste, ou fome, nós nos apresentaremos diante desta casa e diante de ti, pois teu nome está nesta casa, e clamaremos a ti na nossa angústia, e tu nos ouvirás e livrarás.
10 »You can see that the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Edom are attacking us! Those are the nations you would not let our ancestors invade on their way from Egypt. Consequently these nations were not destroyed.
10 Agora, pois, eis que os filhos de Amom, e de Moabe e os das montanhas de Seir, pelos quais não permitiste passar a Israel, quando vinham da terra do Egito, mas deles se desviaram e não os destruíram,
11 »They are now paying us back by coming to force us out of your land that you gave to us.
11 Eis que nos dão o pago, vindo para lançar-nos fora da tua herança, que nos fizeste herdar.
12 »You are our God. Will you judge them? We do not have the strength to face this large crowd that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, so we are looking to you.«
12 Ah! nosso Deus, porventura não os julgarás? Porque em nós não há força perante esta grande multidão que vem contra nós, e não sabemos o que faremos; porém os nossos olhos estão postos em ti.
13 All the people from Judah, their infants, wives, and children were standing in front of Jehovah.
13 E todo o Judá estava em pé perante o Senhor, como também as suas crianças, as suas mulheres, e os seus filhos.
14 Then Jehovah’s Spirit came to Jahaziel. He was the son of Zechariah, grandson of Benaiah, great-grandson of Jeiel, whose father was Mattaniah, a Levite descended from Asaph.
14 Então veio o Espírito do Senhor, no meio da congregação, sobre Jaaziel, filho de Zacarias, filho de Benaia, filho de Jeiel, filho de Matanias, levita, dos filhos de Asafe,
15 Jahaziel said: »Pay attention to me, everyone from Judah, everyone living in Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat. This is what Jehovah says to you: ‘Do not be frightened or terrified by this large crowd. The battle is not yours. It is God’s.
15 E disse: Dai ouvidos todo o Judá, e vós, moradores de Jerusalém, e tu, ó rei Jeosafá; assim o Senhor vos diz: Não temais, nem vos assusteis por causa desta grande multidão; pois a peleja não é vossa, mas de Deus.
16 »‘Attack them tomorrow as they come up the pass at Ziz. Meet them at the end of the valley that leads to the wild country near Jeruel.
16 Amanhã descereis contra eles; eis que sobem pela ladeira de Ziz, e os achareis no fim do vale, diante do deserto de Jeruel.
17 »‘You will not have to fight this battle. Just take up your positions and wait. You will see Jehovah give you victory. People of Judah and Jerusalem, do not hesitate or be afraid.’ Go out to battle. Jehovah will be with you!
17 Nesta batalha não tereis que pelejar; postai-vos, ficai parados, e vede a salvação do Senhor para convosco, ó Judá e Jerusalém. Não temais, nem vos assusteis; amanhã saí-lhes ao encontro, porque o Senhor será convosco.
18 »Then King Jehoshaphat bowed low. His face was touching the ground. All the people bowed with him and worshiped Jehovah.
18 Então Jeosafá se prostrou com o rosto em terra, e todo o Judá e os moradores de Jerusalém se lançaram perante o Senhor, adorando-o.
19 »The members of the Levite clans of Kohath and Korah stood up and with a loud shout praised Jehovah, the God of Israel.
19 E levantaram-se os levitas, dos filhos dos coatitas, e dos filhos dos coratitas, para louvarem ao Senhor Deus de Israel, com voz muito alta.
20 »Early the next morning the people went out to the wild country near Tekoa. Before they began Jehoshaphat addressed them with these words: ‘People of Judah and Jerusalem! Put your trust in Jehovah your God. You will stand your ground. Believe what his prophets tell you, and you will succeed.
20 E pela manhã cedo se levantaram e saíram ao deserto de Tecoa; e, ao saírem, Jeosafá pôs-se em pé, e disse: Ouvi-me, ó Judá, e vós, moradores de Jerusalém: Crede no Senhor vosso Deus, e estareis seguros; crede nos seus profetas, e prosperareis;
21 »After consulting with the people, the king ordered some musicians to put on the robes they wore on sacred occasions and to march ahead of the army. They sang: ‘Praise Jehovah! His love is eternal!’«
21 E aconselhou-se com o povo, e ordenou cantores para o Senhor, que louvassem à Majestade santa, saindo diante dos armados, e dizendo: Louvai ao Senhor porque a sua benignidade dura para sempre.
22 As soon as they began singing, Jehovah confused the enemy camp,
22 E, quando começaram a cantar e a dar louvores, o Senhor pôs emboscadas contra os filhos de Amom e de Moabe e os das montanhas de Seir, que vieram contra Judá, e foram desbaratados.
23 The Ammonite and Moabite troops attacked and completely destroyed those from Edom. Then they turned against each other and fought until the entire camp was wiped out!
23 Porque os filhos de Amom e de Moabe se levantaram contra os moradores das montanhas de Seir, para os destruir e exterminar; e, acabando eles com os moradores de Seir, ajudaram uns aos outros a destruir-se.
24 Judah’s army reached the tower that overlooked the desert. They saw that every soldier in the enemy’s army was lying dead on the ground.
24 Nisso chegou Judá à atalaia do deserto; e olharam para a multidão, e eis que eram corpos mortos, que jaziam em terra, e nenhum escapou.
25 Jehoshaphat and his troops came to take the loot. They found among them a lot of goods, clothes, and valuables. They found more than they could carry. They spent three days collecting the loot.
25 E vieram Jeosafá e o seu povo para saquear os seus despojos, e acharam entre eles riquezas e cadáveres em abundância, assim como objetos preciosos; e tomaram para si tanto, que não podiam levar; e três dias saquearam o despojo, porque era muito.
26 They gathered in the valley of Beracah on the fourth day. Because they thanked Jehovah there, that place is still called the »Valley of Beracah« Thanks today.
26 E ao quarto dia se ajuntaram no vale de Beraca; pois ali louvaram ao Senhor. Por isso chamaram aquele lugar o vale de Beraca, até ao dia de hoje.
27 All the men of Judah and Jerusalem returned to Jerusalem. They rejoiced while Jehoshaphat led them. Jehovah gave them a reason to rejoice about what had happened to their enemies.
27 Então voltaram todos os homens de Judá e de Jerusalém, e Jeosafá à frente deles, e tornaram a Jerusalém com alegria; porque o Senhor os alegrara sobre os seus inimigos.
28 They brought harps, lyres, and trumpets to Jehovah’s Temple in Jerusalem.
28 E vieram a Jerusalém com saltérios, com harpas e com trombetas, para a casa do Senhor.
29 Deep respect for Jehovah came over the kingdoms in that area when they heard how Jehovah waged war against Israel’s enemies.
29 E veio o temor de Deus sobre todos os reinos daquelas terras, ouvindo eles que o Senhor havia pelejado contra os inimigos de Israel.
30 Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was peaceful, since his God surrounded him with peace.
30 E o reino de Jeosafá ficou quieto; e o seu Deus lhe deu repouso ao redor.
31 Jehoshaphat ruled as king of Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he began to rule. He ruled for twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah, daughter of Shilhi.
31 E Jeosafá reinou sobre Judá; era da idade de trinta e cinco anos quando começou a reinar e vinte e cinco anos reinou em Jerusalém; e o nome de sua mãe era Azuba, filha de Sili.
32 Jehoshaphat carefully followed the example his father Asa had set and did what Jehovah considered right.
32 E andou no caminho de Asa, seu pai, e não se desviou dele, fazendo o que era reto aos olhos do Senhor.
33 However the illegal worship sites on the hills were not torn down. The people still did not have their hearts set on the God of their ancestors.
33 Contudo os altos não foram tirados porque o povo não tinha ainda disposto o seu coração para com o Deus de seus pais.
34 Everything else about Jehoshaphat from first to last is written in the records of Jehu, son of Hanani, which is included in the Book of the Kings of Israel.
34 Ora, o restante dos atos de Jeosafá, assim, desde os primeiros até os últimos, eis que está escrito nas notas de Jeú, filho de Hanani, que as inseriu no livro dos reis de Israel.
35 After this, King Jehoshaphat of Judah allied himself with King Ahaziah of Israel, who led him to do evil.
35 Porém, depois disto, Jeosafá, rei de Judá, se aliou com Acazias, rei de Israel, que procedeu com toda a impiedade.
36 Jehoshaphat joined him in making ships to go to Tarshish. They made the ships in Ezion Geber.
36 E aliou-se com ele, para fazerem navios que fossem a Társis; e fizeram os navios em Eziom-Geber.
37 Eliezer was the son of Dodavahu from Mareshah. He prophesied against Jehoshaphat. He said: »Jehovah will destroy your work because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah.« The ships were wrecked and could not go to Tarshish.
37 Porém Eliezer, filho de Dodava, de Maressa, profetizou contra Jeosafá, dizendo: Porquanto te aliaste com Acazias, o Senhor despedaçou as tuas obras. E os navios se quebraram, e não puderam ir a Társis.
