1 Samuel 16

1 Jehovah said to Samuel: »How long will you mourn for Saul? After all I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Take oil in your vessel and go. I will send you to Jesse, the Beth-lehemite. I have a king from among his sons.«
1 O S enhor disse a Samuel: “Você já lamentou o suficiente por Saul. Eu o rejeitei como rei de Israel. Agora, encha uma vasilha com óleo e vá a Belém. Procure um homem chamado Jessé, que vive ali, pois escolhi um dos filhos dele para ser rei”.
2 »How can I go?« Samuel asked. »When Saul hears about it he will kill me« Jehovah said: »Take a heifer with you and say: I have come to sacrifice to Jehovah.«
2 “Como posso fazer isso?”, perguntou Samuel. “Se Saul ficar sabendo, me matará.” O S
3 »Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice. I will reveal to you what you should do. You will anoint the one I point out to you.«
3 Convide Jessé para o sacrifício, e eu lhe mostrarei o que você deve fazer e qual dos filhos dele deve ungir para mim”.
4 Samuel did what Jehovah told him. When he came to Bethlehem the elders of the city trembled at his coming. They greeted him and said: »May peace be with you.«
4 Samuel fez o que o S enhor disse. Quando chegou a Belém, as autoridades da cidade foram encontrá-lo, tremendo de medo. “O senhor vem em paz?”, perguntaram.
5 »Greetings,« he replied, »I have come to sacrifice to Jehovah. »Perform the ceremonies to make yourselves holy, and come with me to the sacrifice.« He performed the ceremonies for Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
5 “Sim”, respondeu Samuel. “Vim oferecer um sacrifício ao S enhor . Purifiquem-se e venham comigo para o sacrifício.” Então Samuel realizou a cerimônia para purificar Jessé e seus filhos e também os convidou para o sacrifício.
6 When they entered he looked at Eliab and thought: »Surely Jehovahs anointed is before Him.«
6 Quando chegaram, Samuel olhou para Eliabe e pensou: “Com certeza este é o homem que o S enhor ungirá!”.
7 But Jehovah said to Samuel: »Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature. I have rejected him. God does not see as man sees. Man looks at the outward appearance. Jehovah looks at the heart inner man.«
7 O S enhor , porém, disse a Samuel: “Não o julgue pela aparência nem pela altura, pois eu o rejeitei. O S enhor não vê as coisas como o ser humano as vê. As pessoas julgam pela aparência exterior, mas o S enhor olha para o coração”.
8 Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. Samuel said: »Jehovah has not chosen this one either.«
8 Então Jessé chamou seu filho Abinadabe e o levou até Samuel. Ele, porém, disse: “Não foi este que o S enhor escolheu”.
9 Next Jesse made Shammah pass by. He said: »Jehovah has not chosen this one either.«
9 Em seguida, Jessé chamou Simeia, mas Samuel disse: “Também não foi este que o S enhor escolheu”.
10 So Jesse brought seven more of his sons to Samuel, but Samuel told Jesse: »Jehovah has not chosen any of these.«
10 Da mesma forma, todos os sete filhos de Jessé foram apresentados a Samuel. Mas Samuel disse a Jessé: “O S enhor não escolheu nenhum deles”.
11 »Are these all the sons you have?« Samuel asked. »There is still the youngest one,« Jesse answered. »He is tending sheep.« Samuel responded: »Send someone to get him. We will not continue until he gets here.«
11 Então Samuel perguntou: “São estes todos os seus filhos?”. Jessé respondeu: “Ainda tenho o mais novo, mas ele está no campo, tomando conta do rebanho”. “Mande chamá-lo”, disse Samuel. “Não nos sentaremos para comer enquanto ele não chegar.”
12 Jesse sent for him. He was a handsome, healthy young man, and his eyes sparkled. Jehovah said to Samuel: »This is the one. Anoint him!«
12 Jessé mandou chamá-lo. Era um jovem ruivo, de boa aparência e olhos bonitos. E o S
13 Samuel took the olive oil and anointed David in front of his brothers. Immediately the Spirit of Jehovah took control of David and was with him from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah.
13 Enquanto Davi estava entre seus irmãos, Samuel pegou a vasilha com óleo que havia trazido e o ungiu. A partir daquele dia, o Espírito do S enhor veio poderosamente sobre Davi. Depois disso, Samuel voltou a Ramá.
14 Jehovahs Spirit left Saul, and a distressing spirit sent by Jehovah tormented him.
14 O Espírito do S enhor se retirou de Saul, e o S enhor enviou um espírito maligno, que o atormentava.
15 His servants said to him: »We know that a distressing spirit sent by God is tormenting you.
15 Os servos de Saul lhe disseram: “Um espírito maligno enviado por Deus está atormentando o senhor.
16 »So give us the order and we will look for a man who knows how to play the harp. Then when the distressing spirit comes on you, the man can play his harp, and you will be all right again.«
16 Permita que procuremos um bom músico para tocar harpa sempre que o espírito o afligir. Ele tocará música para acalmar o senhor e o fará sentir-se melhor”.
17 Saul ordered: »Find me a man who plays well and bring him to me.«
17 “Está bem”, respondeu Saul. “Encontrem alguém que saiba tocar bem e tragam-no para cá.”
18 One of his attendants said: »Jesse of the town of Bethlehem has a son who is a good musician. He is also a brave and handsome man, a good soldier, and an able speaker. Jehovah is with him.«
18 Um dos servos disse a Saul: “Um dos filhos de Jessé, de Belém, sabe tocar harpa. Além disso, é um rapaz corajoso, apto para ir à guerra, e tem bom senso. Também é moço de boa aparência, e o S enhor está com ele”.
19 Saul sent a message to Jesse: »Tell your son David to leave your sheep and come here to me.«
19 Então Saul enviou mensageiros a Jessé para lhe dizer: “Envie-me seu filho Davi, o pastor de ovelhas”.
20 Jesse loaded a donkey with bread and a goatskin full of wine. He told David to take the donkey and a young goat to Saul.
20 Jessé enviou Davi a Saul e, com ele, mandou um jumento carregado de pão, um cabrito e uma vasilha de couro cheia de vinho.
21 David went to Saul and worked for him. Saul liked him so much that he put David in charge of carrying his weapons.
21 Davi se apresentou a Saul e começou a servi-lo. Saul gostou muito de Davi e o tornou seu escudeiro.
22 Not long after this, Saul sent another message to Jesse: »I really like David. Please let him stay with me.«
22 Então Saul enviou uma mensagem a Jessé, pedindo: “Deixe que Davi continue a meu serviço, pois estou muito satisfeito com ele”.
23 Whenever the distressing spirit from God bothered Saul, David would play his harp. Saul would relax and feel better. The distressing spirit would go away.
23 Assim, sempre que o espírito maligno enviado por Deus afligia Saul, Davi tocava a harpa. Saul se sentia melhor, e o espírito se retirava dele.
