1 I am speaking the truth in Christ, it is no lie. My conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit that I have deep sorrow
1 Digo a verdade em Cristo, não minto; minha consciência o confirma no Espírito Santo:
2 and incessant anguish in my heart.
2 tenho grande tristeza e constante angústia em meu coração.
3 For I was on the point of praying to be accursed from Christ on behalf of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh.
3 Pois eu até desejaria ser amaldiçoado e separado de Cristo por amor de meus irmãos, os de minha raça,
4 For they are Israelites; to them belong the sonship, the Shekinah glory, the covenants, the giving of the Law; the service of the temple, and the promises;
4 o povo de Israel. Deles é a adoção de filhos; deles é a glória divina, as alianças, a concessão da lei, a adoração no templo e as promessas.
5 theirs are the patriarchs, and of them, as concerning the flesh, is Christ, who is over all, God, blessed forever, Amen.
5 Deles são os patriarcas, e a partir deles se traça a linhagem humana de Cristo, que é Deus acima de tudo, bendito para sempre! Amém.
6 It is not, however, as though Gods word had failed! For they are not all Israel who have sprung from Israel;
6 Não pensemos que a palavra de Deus falhou. Pois nem todos os descendentes de Israel são Israel.
7 they are not all children of Abraham because they are Abrahams descendants. The promise was, In Isaac shall thy posterity be called.
7 Nem por serem descendentes de Abraão passaram todos a ser filhos de Abraão. Pelo contrário: "Por meio de Isaque a sua descendência será considerada".
8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as his posterity.
8 Noutras palavras, não são os filhos naturais que são filhos de Deus, mas os filhos da promessa é que são considerados descendência de Abraão.
9 For thus is the word of promise, According to this season I will come, and Sarah shall bear a son.
9 Pois foi assim que a promessa foi feita: "no tempo devido virei novamente, e Sara terá um filho".
10 And not only so, but when Rebecca was pregnant by our forefather Isaac, though one man was the father of both children,
10 E esse não foi o único caso; também os filhos de Rebeca tiveram um mesmo pai, nosso pai Isaque.
11 and even though they were still unborn, and had done nothing either good or bad, in order that the purpose of God might stand according to election, not of works, but of Him who called,
11 Todavia, antes que os gêmeos nascessem ou fizessem qualquer coisa boa ou má — a fim de que o propósito de Deus conforme a eleição permanecesse,
12 it was said to her, The elder shall serve the younger.
12 não por obras, mas por aquele que chama — foi dito a ela: "O mais velho servirá ao mais novo".
13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
13 Como está escrito: "Amei Jacó, mas rejeitei Esaú".
14 What shall we say then? that there is injustice with God? No indeed.
14 E então, que diremos? Acaso Deus é injusto? De maneira nenhuma!
15 His words to Moses are. I will have mercy on whom I choose to have mercy; I will have compassion on whom I choose to have compassion.
15 Pois ele diz a Moisés: "Terei misericórdia de quem eu quiser ter misericórdia e terei compaixão de quem eu quiser ter compaixão".
16 So then it is not a question of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who has mercy.
16 Portanto, isso não depende do desejo ou do esforço humano, mas da misericórdia de Deus.
17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, It is for this very purpose that I have raised you up, To show in you my power, And to proclaim my name far and wide, in all the earth.
17 Pois a Escritura diz ao faraó: "Eu o levantei exatamente com este propósito: mostrar em você o meu poder, e para que o meu nome seja proclamado em toda a terra".
18 So then he has mercy on whom he will, and whom he will, he hardens.
18 Portanto, Deus tem misericórdia de quem ele quer, e endurece a quem ele quer.
19 Then you will say to me. "Why does he still go on finding fault? Who can withstand his will?"
19 Mas algum de vocês me dirá: "Então, por que Deus ainda nos culpa? Pois, quem resiste à sua vontade? "
20 "Nay, but who are you, O man, that replies to God? Shall the thing formed say unto him who formed it, "Why did you do me like this?"
20 Mas quem é você, ó homem, para questionar a Deus? "Acaso aquilo que é formado pode dizer ao que o formou: ‘Por que me fizeste assim? ’ "
21 Or has not the potter power over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for noble, and another for ignoble uses?
21 O oleiro não tem direito de fazer do mesmo barro um vaso para fins nobres e outro para uso desonroso?
22 But what if God, while intending to show forth his wrath, and to make known his power, yet endured, with much long-suffering, vessels of wrath, fitted to destruction?
22 E se Deus, querendo mostrar a sua ira e tornar conhecido o seu poder, suportou com grande paciência os vasos de sua ira, preparados para destruição?
23 And what if he thus purposed to make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he had before prepared for glory?
23 Que dizer, se ele fez isto para tornar conhecidas as riquezas de sua glória aos vasos de sua misericórdia, que preparou de antemão para glória,
24 Now such are we whom he has called, not only from among the Jews, but also from among the Gentiles.
24 ou seja, a nós, a quem também chamou, não apenas dentre os judeus, mas também dentre os gentios?
25 As he also said in Hosea. Those who were not my people I will call "my people," And her "beloved" who was not beloved;
25 Como ele diz em Oséias: "Chamarei ‘meu povo’ a quem não é meu povo; e chamarei ‘minha amada’ a quem não é minha amada",
26 And in that very spot where it was told them, "You are not my people," There they shall be called "Sons of the living God."
26 e: "Acontecerá que, no mesmo lugar em que se lhes declarou: ‘Vocês não são meu povo’, eles serão chamados ‘filhos do Deus vivo’. "
27 And in regard to Israel, Isaiah exclaims. Though the number of the sons of Israel be like the sands of the sea, it is but a remnant of those who shall be saved;
27 Isaías exclama com relação a Israel: "Embora o número dos israelitas seja como a areia do mar, apenas o remanescente será salvo.
28 for the Lord will execute his word upon the earth, finishing it and cutting it short.
28 Pois o Senhor executará na terra a sua sentença, rápida e definitivamente".
29 Even as in an earlier passage, Isaiah says, Except the Lord of Sabbath had us some few descendants, we should have become like Sodom, and should have fared like Gomorrah.
29 Como anteriormente disse Isaías: "Se o Senhor dos Exércitos não nos tivesse deixado descendentes, já estaríamos como Sodoma, e semelhantes a Gomorra".
30 What then shall we say? That Gentiles who never pursed righteousness have overtaken it, even the righteousness of faith?
30 Que diremos, então? Os gentios, que não buscavam justiça, a obtiveram, uma justiça que vem da fé;
31 But that the descendants of Israel, who were in pursuit of a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law?
31 mas Israel, que buscava uma lei que trouxesse justiça, não a alcançou.
32 And why? Because they sought it not by faith, but thought to gain it by works. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling;
32 Por que não? Porque não a buscava pela fé, mas como se fosse por obras. Eles tropeçaram na "pedra de tropeço".
33 even as it is written. Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense; but he that believes on Him shall not be put to shame.
33 Como está escrito: "Eis que ponho em Sião uma pedra de tropeço e uma rocha que faz cair; e aquele que nela confia jamais será envergonhado".
