1 Accordingly when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard it said, "Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John,"
1 Quando, pois, o Senhor veio a saber que os fariseus tinham ouvido dizer que ele, Jesus, fazia e batizava mais discípulos que João
2 (though Jesus himself was not accustomed to baptize, but his disciples),
2 (se bem que Jesus mesmo não batizava, e sim os seus discípulos),
3 he left Judea and returned to Galilee.
3 deixou a Judeia, retirando-se outra vez para a Galileia.
4 Now he had to pass through Samaria;
4 E era-lhe necessário atravessar a província de Samaria.
5 so he came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the piece of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
5 Chegou, pois, a uma cidade samaritana, chamada Sicar, perto das terras que Jacó dera a seu filho José.
6 Jacobs Spring was there. So Jesus, tired out with his journey, was sitting thus by the spring.
6 Estava ali a fonte de Jacó. Cansado da viagem, assentara-se Jesus junto à fonte, por volta da hora sexta.
7 It was about noon, and a woman of Samaria came to draw water.
7 Nisto, veio uma mulher samaritana tirar água. Disse-lhe Jesus: Dá-me de beber.
8 Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink" (for his disciples were gone away into the city to buy food.)
8 Pois seus discípulos tinham ido à cidade para comprar alimentos.
9 "How is it," answered the Samaritan woman, "that you who are a Jew ask a drink from me, a woman, and a Samaritan?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
9 Então, lhe disse a mulher samaritana: Como, sendo tu judeu, pedes de beber a mim, que sou mulher samaritana (porque os judeus não se dão com os samaritanos )?
10 "If you had known the free gift of God," Jesus answered, "and who it is that says to you, Give me a drink, you would have asked of him, and he would have given you living water."
10 Replicou-lhe Jesus: Se conheceras o dom de Deus e quem é o que te pede: dá-me de beber, tu lhe pedirias, e ele te daria água viva.
11 "Sir," said the woman, "you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; whence have you that living water?
11 Respondeu-lhe ela: Senhor, tu não tens com que a tirar, e o poço é fundo; onde, pois, tens a água viva?
12 Surely you are not greater than our Father Jacob, who gave us the well, and used to drink from it himself, and his sons, and his cattle, too?"
12 És tu, porventura, maior do que Jacó, o nosso pai, que nos deu o poço, do qual ele mesmo bebeu, e, bem assim, seus filhos, e seu gado?
13 "All who drink of this water," Jesus answered, "will thirst again;
13 Afirmou-lhe Jesus: Quem beber desta água tornará a ter sede;
14 but whoever once drinks of the water that I will give him, shall never thirst any more, but the water that I will give him shall become a living spring of water within him, welling up into eternal life."
14 aquele, porém, que beber da água que eu lhe der nunca mais terá sede; pelo contrário, a água que eu lhe der será nele uma fonte a jorrar para a vida eterna.
15 "Sir!" exclaimed the woman, "give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty, nor come all this way to draw water."
15 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, dá-me dessa água para que eu não mais tenha sede, nem precise vir aqui buscá-la.
16 Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and then come here."
16 Disse-lhe Jesus: Vai, chama teu marido e vem cá;
17 "I have no husband," answered the woman. "You are right in saying I have no husband,"Jesus said to her,
17 ao que lhe respondeu a mulher: Não tenho marido. Replicou-lhe Jesus: Bem disseste, não tenho marido;
18 "for you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband; in this you have spoken truly."
18 porque cinco maridos já tiveste, e esse que agora tens não é teu marido; isto disseste com verdade.
19 "I see, Sir, that you are a prophet," replied the woman.
19 Senhor, disse-lhe a mulher, vejo que tu és profeta.
20 "Our forefathers worshiped in this mountain, yet you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one must worship."
20 Nossos pais adoravam neste monte; vós, entretanto, dizeis que em Jerusalém é o lugar onde se deve adorar.
21 "Woman, believe me," said Jesus, "that the hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
21 Disse-lhe Jesus: Mulher, podes crer-me que a hora vem, quando nem neste monte, nem em Jerusalém adorareis o Pai.
22 You are worshiping something you do not know. we know what we worship, for salvation comes from the Jews.
22 Vós adorais o que não conheceis; nós adoramos o que conhecemos, porque a salvação vem dos judeus.
23 But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father is seeking such as his worshipers.
23 Mas vem a hora e já chegou, em que os verdadeiros adoradores adorarão o Pai em espírito e em verdade; porque são estes que o Pai procura para seus adoradores.
24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."
24 Deus é espírito; e importa que os seus adoradores o adorem em espírito e em verdade.
25 "I know," said the woman, "that Messiah is coming, who is called the Christ; when he has come he will tell us everything."
25 Eu sei, respondeu a mulher, que há de vir o Messias, chamado Cristo; quando ele vier, nos anunciará todas as coisas.
26 Jesus said to her, "I who am now talking to you, am he."
26 Disse-lhe Jesus: Eu o sou, eu que falo contigo.
27 Just then his disciples came up, and were astonished that he was talking with a woman; yet not one of them asked him, "What do you want?" or "Why are you talking with her?"
27 Neste ponto, chegaram os seus discípulos e se admiraram de que estivesse falando com uma mulher; todavia, nenhum lhe disse: Que perguntas? Ou: Por que falas com ela?
28 Then the woman left her water-jar, and went away into the city and began saying to the people.
28 Quanto à mulher, deixou o seu cântaro, foi à cidade e disse àqueles homens:
29 "Come! see a man who has told me everything that I ever did. He cant be the Christ, can he?"
29 Vinde comigo e vede um homem que me disse tudo quanto tenho feito. Será este, porventura, o Cristo?!
30 They left the city and set out to go to him.
30 Saíram, pois, da cidade e vieram ter com ele.
31 Meanwhile the disciples kept urging him.
31 Nesse ínterim, os discípulos lhe rogavam, dizendo: Mestre, come!
32 "Rabbi," they said, "eat something." But he answered, "I have food to eat of which you know nothing."
32 Mas ele lhes disse: Uma comida tenho para comer, que vós não conheceis.
33 So the disciples began to say to one another, "Can any one have brought him something to eat?"
33 Diziam, então, os discípulos uns aos outros: Ter-lhe-ia, porventura, alguém trazido o que comer?
34 Jesus said to them. "My food is to do the will of Him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.
34 Disse-lhes Jesus: A minha comida consiste em fazer a vontade daquele que me enviou e realizar a sua obra.
35 Do you not say, It wants yet four months, and then comes the harvest?Look, I tell you! Lift up your eyes and behold the fields, that they are already white for harvest.
35 Não dizeis vós que ainda há quatro meses até à ceifa? Eu, porém, vos digo: erguei os olhos e vede os campos, pois já branquejam para a ceifa.
36 The reaper is already receiving wages and gathering a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may rejoice together.
36 O ceifeiro recebe desde já a recompensa e entesoura o seu fruto para a vida eterna; e, dessarte, se alegram tanto o semeador como o ceifeiro.
37 For in this respect the saying is true, One sows, another reaps.
37 Pois, no caso, é verdadeiro o ditado: Um é o semeador, e outro é o ceifeiro.
38 I sent you to reap a crop on which you have not toiled. Others have toiled, and you have reaped the benefit of their toil."
38 Eu vos enviei para ceifar o que não semeastes; outros trabalharam, e vós entrastes no seu trabalho.
39 Many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him because of the word of the woman when she declared, "He told me everything that I ever did."
39 Muitos samaritanos daquela cidade creram nele, em virtude do testemunho da mulher, que anunciara: Ele me disse tudo quanto tenho feito.
40 So when the Samaritans arrived, they began asking him to remain with them; and he stayed there two days.
40 Vindo, pois, os samaritanos ter com Jesus, pediam-lhe que permanecesse com eles; e ficou ali dois dias.
41 Then many more believed because of what he said, himself; and they told the woman.
41 Muitos outros creram nele, por causa da sua palavra,
42 "We no longer believe because of what you said. for we ourselves have heard him, and we know that this is certainly the Saviour of the world."
42 e diziam à mulher: Já agora não é pelo que disseste que nós cremos; mas porque nós mesmos temos ouvido e sabemos que este é verdadeiramente o Salvador do mundo.
43 After these two days Jesus went away from there into Galilee.
43 Passados dois dias, partiu dali para a Galileia.
44 For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.
44 Porque o mesmo Jesus testemunhou que um profeta não tem honras na sua própria terra.
45 When he reached Galilee, however, the Galileans welcomed him, for they had seen all that he did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they, too, had been at the feast.
45 Assim, quando chegou à Galileia, os galileus o receberam, porque viram todas as coisas que ele fizera em Jerusalém, por ocasião da festa, à qual eles também tinham comparecido.
46 So he came back again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. Now there was one of the kings officers whose son was lying ill at Capernaum.
46 Dirigiu-se, de novo, a Caná da Galileia, onde da água fizera vinho. Ora, havia um oficial do rei, cujo filho estava doente em Cafarnaum.
47 When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and begged him to come down and heal his son who was lying at the point of death.
47 Tendo ouvido dizer que Jesus viera da Judeia para a Galileia, foi ter com ele e lhe rogou que descesse para curar seu filho, que estava à morte.
48 Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you all see signs and wonders, you will not believe."
48 Então, Jesus lhe disse: Se, porventura, não virdes sinais e prodígios, de modo nenhum crereis.
49 "Sir," said the kings officer, "come down before my little boy dies."
49 Rogou-lhe o oficial: Senhor, desce, antes que meu filho morra.
50 Jesus answered. "Go your way. Your son lives." And the man believed the word which Jesus spoke to him, and started to go home.
50 Vai, disse-lhe Jesus; teu filho vive. O homem creu na palavra de Jesus e partiu.
51 And when he was already on his way down, his slaves met him, saying that his boy was living.
51 Já ele descia, quando os seus servos lhe vieram ao encontro, anunciando-lhe que o seu filho vivia.
52 So he asked them at what hour he had begun mend. They answered, "Yesterday, about one oclock, the fever left him."
52 Então, indagou deles a que hora o seu filho se sentira melhor. Informaram: Ontem, à hora sétima a febre o deixou.
53 Then the father realized that it had left him at the very hour when Jesus had said to him, "Your son lives," and he himself believed, and his whole household.
53 Com isto, reconheceu o pai ser aquela precisamente a hora em que Jesus lhe dissera: Teu filho vive; e creu ele e toda a sua casa.
54 This is the second sign which Jesus performed, on returning from Judea to Galilee.
54 Foi este o segundo sinal que fez Jesus, depois de vir da Judeia para a Galileia.
