1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ according to the command of God our Savior, and of [the] Lord Jesus Christ, our hope,
1 Paulo, apóstolo de Cristo Jesus, pelo mandato de Deus, nosso Salvador, e de Cristo Jesus, nossa esperança,
2 to Timothy, [my] own son in [the] faith. Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
2 a Timóteo, verdadeiro filho na fé, graça, misericórdia e paz, da parte de Deus Pai e de Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor.
3 Even as I begged you to remain at Ephesus, when I was going to Macedonia, that you might charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
3 Quando eu estava de viagem, rumo da Macedônia, te roguei permanecesses ainda em Éfeso para admoestares a certas pessoas, a fim de que não ensinem outra doutrina,
4 nor to give heed to fables and endless genealogies (which provide doubts rather than the] nurture of God in faith).
4 nem se ocupem com fábulas e genealogias sem fim, que, antes, promovem discussões do que o serviço de Deus, na fé.
5 But the end of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, and a good conscience, and faith unfeigned,
5 Ora, o intuito da presente admoestação visa ao amor que procede de coração puro, e de consciência boa, e de fé sem hipocrisia.
6 from which some, having swerved, have turned aside to foolish talking,
6 Desviando-se algumas pessoas destas coisas, perderam-se em loquacidade frívola,
7 desiring to be teachers of the law, neither understanding what they say nor that which they affirm.
7 pretendendo passar por mestres da lei, não compreendendo, todavia, nem o que dizem, nem os assuntos sobre os quais fazem ousadas asseverações.
8 But we know that the law [is] good if a man uses it lawfully,
8 Sabemos, porém, que a lei é boa, se alguém dela se utiliza de modo legítimo,
9 knowing this, that the law [is] not made for a righteous one, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
9 tendo em vista que não se promulga lei para quem é justo, mas para transgressores e rebeldes, irreverentes e pecadores, ímpios e profanos, parricidas e matricidas, homicidas,
10 for fornicators, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and anything else that is contrary to sound doctrine,
10 impuros, sodomitas, raptores de homens, mentirosos, perjuros e para tudo quanto se opõe à sã doutrina,
11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
11 segundo o evangelho da glória do Deus bendito, do qual fui encarregado.
12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who strengthened me, because He counted me faithful, putting [me] into the ministry--
12 Sou grato para com aquele que me fortaleceu, Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor, que me considerou fiel, designando-me para o ministério,
13 the [one] who before was a blasphemer and a persecutor and insolent. But I obtained mercy, because being ignorant, I did [it] in unbelief.
13 a mim, que, noutro tempo, era blasfemo, e perseguidor, e insolente. Mas obtive misericórdia, pois o fiz na ignorância, na incredulidade.
14 [And] the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.
14 Transbordou, porém, a graça de nosso Senhor com a fé e o amor que há em Cristo Jesus.
15 Faithful [is] the Word and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
15 Fiel é a palavra e digna de toda aceitação: que Cristo Jesus veio ao mundo para salvar os pecadores, dos quais eu sou o principal.
16 But for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all long-suffering, as a pattern to those being about to believe on Him to life everlasting.
16 Mas, por esta mesma razão, me foi concedida misericórdia, para que, em mim, o principal, evidenciasse Jesus Cristo a sua completa longanimidade, e servisse eu de modelo a quantos hão de crer nele para a vida eterna.
17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, [the] only wise God, [be] honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
17 Assim, ao Rei eterno, imortal, invisível, Deus único, honra e glória pelos séculos dos séculos. Amém!
18 This charge I commit to you, [my] son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before [about] you, in order that you might war a good warfare by them,
18 Este é o dever de que te encarrego, ó filho Timóteo, segundo as profecias de que antecipadamente foste objeto: combate, firmado nelas, o bom combate,
19 holding faith and a good conscience, which some have put away and made shipwreck as to faith.
19 mantendo fé e boa consciência, porquanto alguns, tendo rejeitado a boa consciência, vieram a naufragar na fé.
20 Among these are Hymeneus and Alexander, whom I have delivered to Satan so that they may learn not to blaspheme.
20 E dentre esses se contam Himeneu e Alexandre, os quais entreguei a Satanás, para serem castigados, a fim de não mais blasfemarem.
