1 My son, forget not my teaching, and let thy heart keep my commandments;
1 Filho meu, não te esqueças da minha lei, e o teu coração guarde os meus mandamentos.
2 For length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they increase unto thee.
2 Porque eles aumentarão os teus dias e te acrescentarão anos de vida e paz.
3 Let kindness and truth not forsake thee; bind them about thy throat; write them upon the table of thy heart:
3 Não te desamparem a benignidade e a fidelidade; ata-as ao teu pescoço; escreve-as na tábua do teu coração.
4 So shalt thou find grace and good favor in the eyes of God and man.
4 E acharás graça e bom entendimento aos olhos de Deus e do homem.
5 Trust in the Lord with all thy heart: and upon thy own understanding do not rely.
5 Confia no Senhor de todo o teu coração, e não te estribes no teu próprio entendimento.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will make level thy paths.
6 Reconhece-o em todos os teus caminhos, e ele endireitará as tuas veredas.
7 Be not wise in thy own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
7 Não sejas sábio a teus próprios olhos; teme ao Senhor e aparta-te do mal.
8 It will be healing to thy body, and marrow to thy bones.
8 Isto será saúde para o teu âmago, e medula para os teus ossos.
9 Honor the Lord with thy wealth, and with the firstfruits of all thy products:
9 Honra ao Senhor com os teus bens, e com a primeira parte de todos os teus ganhos;
10 So shall thy storehouses be filled with plenty, and with new wine shall thy presses overflow.
10 E se encherão os teus celeiros, e transbordarão de vinho os teus lagares.
11 The correction of the Lord, my son, do not despise; and feel no loathing for his admonition;
11 Filho meu, não rejeites a correção do Senhor, nem te enojes da sua repreensão.
12 Because whomever the Lord loveth he admonisheth; and as a father who delighteth in his son.
12 Porque o Senhor repreende aquele a quem ama, assim como o pai ao filho a quem quer bem.
13 Happy the man that hath found wisdom, and the man that acquireth understanding.
13 Bem-aventurado o homem que acha sabedoria, e o homem que adquire conhecimento;
14 For the obtaining of her is better than the obtaining of silver, and better than fine gold is her product.
14 Porque é melhor a sua mercadoria do que artigos de prata, e maior o seu lucro que o ouro mais fino.
15 She is more precious than pearls; and all the things thou valuest are not equal unto her.
15 Mais preciosa é do que os rubis, e tudo o que mais possas desejar não se pode comparar a ela.
16 Length of days is in her right hand: in her left are riches and honor.
16 Vida longa de dias está na sua mão direita; e na esquerda, riquezas e honra.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
17 Os seus caminhos são caminhos de delícias, e todas as suas veredas de paz.
18 A tree of life is she to those that lay hold on her: and every one that firmly graspeth her will be made happy.
18 É árvore de vida para os que dela tomam, e são bem-aventurados todos os que a retêm.
19 The Lord hath through wisdom founded the earth: he hath established the heavens through understanding.
19 O Senhor, com sabedoria fundou a terra; com entendimento preparou os céus.
20 By his knowledge were the depths split open, and the skies drop down the dew.
20 Pelo seu conhecimento se fenderam os abismos, e as nuvens destilam o orvalho.
21 My son, let them not be removed from thy eyes; keep before thee sound wisdom and discretion:
21 Filho meu, não se apartem estas coisas dos teus olhos: guarda a verdadeira sabedoria e o bom siso;
22 And they will be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy throat.
22 Porque serão vida para a tua alma, e adorno ao teu pescoço.
23 Then wilt thou walk in safety on thy way, and thy foot will not strike against aught:
23 Então andarás confiante pelo teu caminho, e o teu pé não tropeçará.
24 When thou layest thyself down, thou shalt feel no dread; and as thou liest down, thy sleep shall be pleasant.
24 Quando te deitares, não temerás; ao contrário, o teu sono será suave ao te deitares.
25 Thou needest not to be afraid of sudden dread, neither of the unlookedfor tempest over the wicked, when it cometh.
25 Não temas o pavor repentino, nem a investida dos perversos quando vier.
26 For the Lord will be thy confidence, and he will guard thy foot from being caught.
26 Porque o Senhor será a tua esperança; guardará os teus pés de serem capturados.
27 Withhold not a benefit from him who is deserving it, when it is in the power of thy hand to do it.
27 Não deixes de fazer bem a quem o merece, estando em tuas mãos a capacidade de fazê-lo.
28 Say not unto thy neighbor, Go, and return, and tomorrow will I give: when thou hast it by thee.
28 Não digas ao teu próximo: Vai, e volta amanhã que to darei, se já o tens contigo.
29 Contrive not against thy neighbor any evil, when he dwelleth in safety with thee.
29 Não maquines o mal contra o teu próximo, pois que habita contigo confiadamente.
30 Quarrel not with any man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
30 Não contendas com alguém sem causa, se não te fez nenhum mal.
31 Envy not the man of violence, and choose none of his ways.
31 Não tenhas inveja do homem violento, nem escolhas nenhum dos seus caminhos.
32 For the froward is an abomination to the Lord; but with the upright is his goodwill.
32 Porque o perverso é abominável ao Senhor, mas com os sinceros ele tem intimidade.
33 The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked; but the habitation of the righteous will he bless.
33 A maldição do Senhor habita na casa do ímpio, mas a habitação dos justos abençoará.
34 If it concern the scornful he will himself render them a scorn; but unto the lowly doth he give grace.
34 Certamente ele escarnecerá dos escarnecedores, mas dará graça aos mansos.
35 The wise shall inherit glory; but fools shall obtain disgrace as their portion.
35 Os sábios herdarão honra, mas os loucos tomam sobre si vergonha.
