1 And the Lord addressed Job, and said,
1 Respondeu mais o SENHOR a Jó, dizendo:
2 Will he that contendeth with the Almighty yet find fault? him that reproveth God answer this.
2 Porventura o contender contra o Todo-Poderoso é sabedoria? Quem argüi assim a Deus, responda por isso.
3 Then answered Job the Lord, and said,
3 Então Jó respondeu ao Senhor, dizendo:
4 Behold, I am too vile: what shall I answer thee? my hand do I place on my mouth.
4 Eis que sou vil; que te responderia eu? A minha mão ponho à boca.
5 Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will not repeat it again.
5 Uma vez tenho falado, e não replicarei; ou ainda duas vezes, porém não prosseguirei.
6 Then answered the Lord unto Job out of the stormwind, and said,
6 Então o Senhor respondeu a Jó de um redemoinho, dizendo:
7 Do but gird up like a mighty man thy loins: I will ask thee, and do thou inform me.
7 Cinge agora os teus lombos como homem; eu te perguntarei, e tu me explicarás.
8 Wilt thou indeed annul my decree? wilt thou condemn me, in order that thou mayest appear righteous?
8 Porventura também tornarás tu vão o meu juízo, ou tu me condenarás, para te justificares?
9 But if thou hast an arm like God, or if thou canst thunder loudly like him:
9 Ou tens braço como Deus, ou podes trovejar com voz como ele o faz?
10 Then do deck thyself with excellence and greatness, and clothe thyself in majesty and glory.
10 Orna-te, pois, de excelência e alteza; e veste-te de majestade e de glória.
11 Scatter abroad the ragings of thy wrath, and look on every proud one, and humble him.
11 Derrama os furores da tua ira, e atenta para todo o soberbo, e abate-o.
12 Look on every proud one, and bend him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
12 Olha para todo o soberbo, e humilha-o, e atropela os ímpios no seu lugar.
13 Hide them in the dust altogether: bind up their faces in concealment.
13 Esconde-os juntamente no pó; ata-lhes os rostos em oculto.
14 Then will I also myself praise thee, when thy own right hand hath helped thee.
14 Então também eu a ti confessarei que a tua mão direita te poderá salvar.
15 Only behold Behemoth, which I made near thee: grass he eateth like the ox.
15 Contemplas agora o beemote, que eu fiz contigo, que come a erva como o boi.
16 Only see, how great is his strength in his loins, and his force, in the muscles of his belly.
16 Eis que a sua força está nos seus lombos, e o seu poder nos músculos do seu ventre.
17 He stretcheth out his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his loins are closely wrapped together.
17 Quando quer, move a sua cauda como cedro; os nervos das suas coxas estão entretecidos.
18 His bones are like pipes of brass: his frame is like bars of iron.
18 Os seus ossos são como tubos de bronze; a sua ossada é como barras de ferro.
19 He is the first in rank of the works of God: he that made him can alone bring his sword near unto him.
19 Ele é obra-prima dos caminhos de Deus; o que o fez o proveu da sua espada.
20 But truly the mountains bear for him his food, and all the beasts of the field play there.
20 Em verdade os montes lhe produzem pastos, onde todos os animais do campo folgam.
21 Under shady trees he lieth down, in the covert of the reeds, and swamp.
21 Deita-se debaixo das árvores sombrias, no esconderijo das canas e da lama.
22 Shady trees cover him as his shadow: willows of the brook encompass him about.
22 As árvores sombrias o cobrem, com sua sombra; os salgueiros do ribeiro o cercam.
23 Behold, a river sweepeth violently along, but he hasteneth not away: he remaineth quiet, though a Jordan rusheth up to his mouth.
23 Eis que um rio transborda, e ele não se apressa, confiando ainda que o Jordão se levante até à sua boca.
24 Can one catch him before his eyes? pierce his nose by means of snares?
24 Podê-lo-iam porventura caçar à vista de seus olhos, ou com laços lhe furar o nariz?
