1 Now when ‘Ezra prayed, and when he made his confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there gathered themselves unto him out of Israel a very large assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept exceedingly much.
1 Enquanto Esdras orava e fazia confissão, chorando prostrado diante da Casa de Deus, ajuntou-se a ele de Israel mui grande congregação de homens, de mulheres e de crianças; pois o povo chorava com grande choro.
2 Thereupon commenced Shechanyah the son of Jechiel, of the sons of ‘Elam, and said unto ‘Ezra, we have indeed trespassed against our God, and have brought home strange wives of the nations of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.
2 Então, Secanias, filho de Jeiel, um dos filhos de Elão, tomou a palavra e disse a Esdras: Nós temos transgredido contra o nosso Deus, casando com mulheres estrangeiras, dos povos de outras terras, mas, no tocante a isto, ainda há esperança para Israel.
3 And now let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the direction of the Lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God: and let it be done according to the law.
3 Agora, pois, façamos aliança com o nosso Deus, de que despediremos todas as mulheres e os seus filhos, segundo o conselho do Senhor e o dos que tremem ao mandado do nosso Deus; e faça-se segundo a Lei.
4 Arise; for this matter is obligatory upon thee; and we will be with thee: be strong, and do it.
4 Levanta-te, pois esta coisa é de tua incumbência, e nós seremos contigo; sê forte e age.
5 Then arose ‘Ezra, and caused the princes of the priests, the Levites, and of all Israel, to swear to do according to this word. And they swore.
5 Então, Esdras se levantou e ajuramentou os principais sacerdotes, os levitas e todo o Israel, de que fariam segundo esta palavra. E eles juraram.
6 Then arose ‘Ezra from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jochanan the son of Elyashib; and he went thither without having eaten bread, or having drunk water; for he was mourning because of the trespass of the exiles.
6 Esdras se retirou de diante da Casa de Deus, e entrou na câmara de Joanã, filho de Eliasibe, e lá não comeu pão, nem bebeu água, porque pranteava por causa da transgressão dos que tinham voltado do exílio.
7 And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the exile, to gather themselves together at Jerusalem;
7 Fez-se passar pregão por Judá e Jerusalém a todos os que vieram do exílio, que deviam ajuntar-se em Jerusalém;
8 And that whosoever should not come within three days, according to the resolve of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be devoted, and himself separated from the congregation of the exiles.
8 e que, se alguém, em três dias, não viesse, segundo o conselho dos príncipes e dos anciãos, todos os seus bens seriam totalmente destruídos, e ele mesmo separado da congregação dos que voltaram do exílio.
9 Then were all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered together unto Jerusalem within three days: it was in the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the open place before the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and by reason of the showers of rain.
9 Então, todos os homens de Judá e Benjamim, em três dias, se ajuntaram em Jerusalém; no dia vinte do mês nono, todo o povo se assentou na praça da Casa de Deus, tremendo por causa desta coisa e por causa das grandes chuvas.
10 And ‘Ezra the priest rose up, and said unto them, Ye have acted unfaithfully, and have brought home strange wives, to increase yet more the guiltiness of Israel.
10 Então, se levantou Esdras, o sacerdote, e lhes disse: Vós transgredistes casando-vos com mulheres estrangeiras, aumentando a culpa de Israel.
11 Now therefore make confession unto the Lord the God of your fathers, and do his will; and separate yourselves from the nations of the earth, and from the strange wives.
11 Agora, pois, fazei confissão ao Senhor , Deus de vossos pais, e fazei o que é do seu agrado; separai-vos dos povos de outras terras e das mulheres estrangeiras.
12 Then answered all the assembly and said with a loud voice, So be it: according to thy word it is our duty to do.
12 Respondeu toda a congregação e disse em altas vozes: Assim seja; segundo as tuas palavras, assim nos convém fazer.
13 But the people are many, and it is the rainy season, and we have not the strength to remain in the street, nor is this a work for one day or for two days; for we are many that have transgressed in this matter.
13 Porém o povo é muito, e, sendo tempo de grandes chuvas, não podemos estar aqui de fora; e não é isto obra de um dia ou dois, pois somos muitos os que transgredimos nesta coisa.
14 Let however our princes stand forward for all the congregation, and let all those in our cities who have brought home strange wives come at appointed times, and with them the elders of each and every city, and its judges, until the fierce wrath of our God be turned away from us for this whole matter.
14 Ora, que os nossos príncipes decidam por toda a congregação, e que venham a eles em tempos determinados todos os que em nossas cidades casaram com mulheres estrangeiras, e com estes os anciãos de cada cidade, e os seus juízes, até que desviemos de nós o brasume da ira do nosso Deus, por esta coisa.
15 Only Jonathan the son of ‘Assahel and Jachzeyah the son of Thikvah withstood this proposal: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite assisted them.
15 No entanto, Jônatas, filho de Asael, e Jazeías, filho de Ticvá, se opuseram a esta coisa; e Mesulão e Sabetai, levita, os apoiaram.
16 And the children of the exile did so. And then were set apart ‘Ezra the priest, and certain chiefs of the divisions, for their family divisions, and all of them designated by their names; and they sat down on the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
16 Assim o fizeram os que voltaram do exílio; então, Esdras, o sacerdote, elegeu nominalmente os homens cabeças de famílias, segundo a casa de seus pais, que se assentaram no dia primeiro do décimo mês, para inquirir nesta coisa;
17 And they made an end with all, with the men that had brought home strange wives, not before the first day of the first month.
17 e o concluíram no dia primeiro do primeiro mês, a respeito de todos os homens que casaram com mulheres estrangeiras.
18 And there were found among the sons of the priests that had brought home strange wives, namely, of the sons of Jeshua’ the son of Jozadak, and his brethren: Ma’asseyah, and Eli’ezer, and Jarib, and Gedalyah.
18 Acharam-se dentre os filhos dos sacerdotes estes, que casaram com mulheres estrangeiras: dos filhos de Jesua, filho de Jozadaque, e de seus irmãos: Maaseias, Eliézer, Jaribe e Gedalias.
19 And they gave their hand to put away their wives, and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their trespass.
19 Com um aperto de mão, prometeram despedir suas mulheres e, por serem culpados, ofereceram um carneiro do rebanho pela sua culpa.
20 And of the sons of Immer: Chanani, and Zebadyah.
20 Dos filhos de Imer: Hanani e Zebadias.
21 And of the sons of Charim: Ma’asseyah, and Elijah, and Shema’yah, and Jechiel, and ‘Uzziyah.
21 Dos filhos de Harim: Maaseias, Elias, Semaías, Jeiel e Uzias.
22 And of the sons of Pashchur: Elyo’enai, Ma’asseyah. Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and El’assah.
22 Dos filhos de Pasur: Elioenai, Maaseias, Ismael, Natanael, Jozabade e Elasa.
23 Also of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shim’i, and Kelayan, the same is Kelita, Pethachyah, Judah, and Eli’ezer.
23 Dos levitas: Jozabade e Simei, Quelaías (este é Quelita), Petaías, Judá e Eliézer.
24 And of the singers, Elyashib; and of the gate–keepers, Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.
24 Dos cantores: Eliasibe; dos porteiros: Salum, Telém e Uri.
25 And of Israel: Of the sons of Par’osh, Ramyah, and Yizziyah, and Malkiyah, and Miyamin, and El’azar, and Malkiyah, and Benayah.
25 E de Israel: dos filhos de Parós: Ramias, Jezias, Malquias, Miamim, Eleazar, Malquias e Benaia.
26 And of the sons of ‘Elam; Matthanyah, Zecharyah, and Jechiel, and ‘Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Eliyah.
26 Dos filhos de Elão: Matanias, Zacarias, Jeiel, Abdi, Jerimote e Elias.
27 And of the sons of Zatthu: Elyo’enai, Elyashib, Matthanyah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and ‘Aziza.
27 Dos filhos de Zatu: Elioenai, Eliasibe, Matanias, Jerimote, Zabade e Aziza.
28 And of the sons of Bebai: Jehochanan, Chananyah, Zabbai, and ‘Athlai.
28 Dos filhos de Bebai: Joanã, Hananias, Zabai e Atlai.
29 And of the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, and ‘Adayah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.
29 Dos filhos de Bani: Mesulão, Maluque, Adaías, Jasube, Seal e Jerimote.
30 And of the sons of Pachath–moab: ‘Adna, and Kelal, Benayah, Ma’asseyah, Matthanyah, Bezalel, and Binnui, and Menasseh.
30 Dos filhos de Paate-Moabe: Adna, Quelal, Benaia, Maaseias, Matanias, Bezalel, Binui e Manassés.
31 And of the sons of Charim: Eli’ezer, Yishiyah, Malkiyah, Shema’yah, Shim’on,
31 Dos filhos de Harim: Eliézer, Issias, Malquias, Semaías, Simeão,
32 Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemaryah.
32 Benjamim, Maluque e Semarias.
33 Of the sons of Chashum: Matthenai, Matthathah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Menasseh, and Shim’i.
33 Dos filhos de Hasum: Matenai, Matatá, Zabade, Elifelete, Jeremai, Manassés e Simei.
34 Of the sons of Bani: Ma’adai, ‘Amram, and Uel,
34 Dos filhos de Bani: Maadai, Anrão, Uel,
35 Benayah, Bedeyah, Keluhu,
35 Benaia, Bedias, Queluí,
36 Vanyah, Meremoth, Elyashib,
36 Vanias, Meremote, Eliasibe,
37 Matthanyah, Matthenai, and Ja’assai,
37 Matanias, Matenai, Jaasai,
38 And Bani, and Binnui, and Shim’i,
38 Bani, Binui, Simei,
39 And Shelemyah, and Nathan, and ‘Adayah,
39 Selemias, Natã, Adaías,
40 Machnadbai, Shashai, Sharai,
40 Macnadbai, Sasai, Sarai,
41 ‘Asar’el, and Shelemyahu, Shemaryah,
41 Azarel, Selemias, Semarias,
42 Shallum, Amaryah, and Joseph.
42 Salum, Amarias e José.
43 Of the sons of Nebo: Je’iel, Matthithyah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, and Joel, Benayah.
43 Dos filhos de Nebo: Jeiel, Matitias, Zabade, Zebina, Jadai, Joel e Benaia.
44 All these had taken strange wives; and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
44 Todos estes haviam tomado mulheres estrangeiras, alguns dos quais tinham filhos destas mulheres.
