1 And the Accuser stood up against Israel, and incited David to count Israel.
1 Satanás se levantou contra Israel e incitou Davi a fazer um censo.
2 And David said to Joab, and to the princes of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan, and bring their number to me, that I may know it.
2 Davi disse a Joabe e aos comandantes do exército: “Façam uma contagem de todo o Israel, desde Berseba, ao sul, até Dã, ao norte, e tragam-me um relatório para que eu saiba o número exato do povo”.
3 Then said Joab, May the Lord add unto his people, how many soever they be, a hundredfold more: are they not all, my lord the king, my lords servants? why then will my lord require this thing? why shall it be a cause of guiltiness for Israel?
3 Joabe, porém, respondeu: “Que o S enhor torne a população cem vezes mais numerosa do que é hoje! Mas por que meu senhor, o rei, deseja fazer essa contagem? Eles não são todos seus servos? Por que levar Israel a pecar?”.
4 Nevertheless the kings word remained firm against Joab; and Joab went out, and moved about throughout all Israel, and came back to Jerusalem.
4 Apesar da objeção de Joabe, o rei insistiu que fizessem o censo. Então Joabe saiu para contar o povo de Israel. Depois, voltou para Jerusalém
5 And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto David: and there were in all Israel a thousand times thousand and one hundred thousand men that drew the sword: and of Judah were four hundred and seventy thousand men that drew the sword.
5 e informou a Davi o número de pessoas. Havia em Israel 1.100.000 homens aptos para irem à guerra que sabiam manejar a espada e, em Judá, havia 470.000.
6 But Levi and Benjamin did he not count among them: for the kings word was abominable to Joab.
6 Mas Joabe não incluiu no censo as tribos de Levi e Benjamim, pois achou absurda a ordem do rei.
7 And this thing was displeasing in the eyes of God, and he smote Israel.
7 Deus se desagradou muito do censo e castigou Israel por isso.
8 And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing; but now, I beseech thee, cause the iniquity of thy servant to pass away; for I have acted very foolishly.
8 Então Davi disse a Deus: “Pequei grandemente ao fazer essa contagem. Perdoe meu pecado, pois cometi uma insensatez”.
9 And the Lord spoke unto Gad, Davids seer, saying,
9 O S enhor falou a Gade, o vidente de Davi. Esta foi a mensagem:
10 Go and speak unto David, saying, Thus hath said the Lord, Three things do I offer thee: choose for thyself one of them, and I will do it unto thee.
10 “Vá e diga a Davi que assim diz o S enhor : ‘Darei a você três opções. Escolha um destes castigos, e eu o aplicarei a você’”.
11 So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus hath said the Lord, Select for thyself,
11 Gade foi a Davi e disse: “Estas são as três opções que o S enhor lhe deu:
12 Whether there shall be three years famine; or three months, to be destroyed before thy adversaries, so that the sword of thy enemies overtake thee; or that during three days the sword of the Lord, even the pestilence, shall be in the land, and an angel of the Lord destroying throughout all the boundaries of Israel? And now reflect what word I shall bring back to him that hath sent me.
12 três anos de fome, três meses de destruição pela espada de seus inimigos, ou três dias de praga intensa, durante os quais o anjo do S enhor trará devastação sobre toda a terra de Israel. Decida o que devo responder àquele que me enviou”.
13 And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall then into the hand of the Lord; for his mercies are very great; but let me not fall into the hand of man.
13 “Não tenho para onde correr nesta situação!”, respondeu Davi a Gade. “Mas é melhor cair nas mãos do S enhor , pois sua misericórdia é grande. Que eu não caia nas mãos de homens.”
14 So the Lord sent a pestilence in Israel, and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
14 Então o S enhor enviou uma praga sobre Israel, e setenta mil pessoas morreram.
15 And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was destroying, the Lord looked on, and he bethought himself of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough: now stay thy hand. And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
15 E Deus enviou um anjo para destruir Jerusalém. Mas, quando o anjo estava prestes a fazê-lo, o S enhor teve compaixão e disse ao anjo da morte: “Pare! Já basta!”. Naquele momento, o anjo do S enhor estava perto da eira de Araúna, o jebuseu.
16 And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the Lord standing between the earth and the heavens, with his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem. Then fell David, with the elders wrapt in sackcloth, upon their faces.
16 Davi olhou para cima e viu o anjo do S enhor entre o céu e a terra, com a espada desembainhada na mão, estendida sobre Jerusalém. Então Davi e as autoridades de Israel se vestiram de pano de saco e se prostraram com o rosto no chão.
17 And David said unto God, Was it not I that ordered to count the people? and I am the one that have sinned and have done evil indeed; but these sheep, what have they done? O Lord my God, let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my fathers house, but not against thy people, that there should be a plague.
17 Davi disse a Deus: “Fui eu que ordenei o censo! Eu pequei e fiz o que era mau! Mas o povo é inocente, como ovelhas. O que fizeram? Ó S enhor , meu Deus, que tua ira caia sobre mim e minha família, mas não castigue teu povo!”.
18 And the angel of the Lord spoke to Gad to say to David, that David should go up, to erect an altar unto the Lord on the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
18 Então o anjo do S enhor disse a Gade que mandasse Davi construir um altar ao S enhor na eira de Araúna, o jebuseu.
19 And David went up by the word of Gad, which he had spoken in the name of the Lord.
19 Davi subiu para lá a fim de cumprir a ordem que o S enhor deu por meio de Gade.
20 And when Ornan turned back, and saw the angel, then did he and his four sons with him hide themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
20 Araúna debulhava o trigo quando virou-se e viu o anjo. Seus quatro filhos, que estavam com ele, fugiram e se esconderam.
21 And as David came up to Ornan, Ornan looked up and saw David; and he went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
21 Quando Araúna viu que o rei se aproximava, saiu da eira e curvou-se diante de Davi com o rosto no chão.
22 Then said David to Ornan, "Grant me the site of this threshingfloor, that I may build thereon an altar unto the Lord: for the full price shalt thou give it unto me, so that the plague may be stayed from the people."
22 Davi disse a Araúna: “Quero comprar de você esta eira pelo preço justo. Construirei nela um altar para o S enhor , a fim de que ele faça cessar a praga”.
23 And Ornan said unto David, Take it for thyself, and let my lord the king do what is good in his eyes: lo, I give the oxen for burntofferings, and the threshingrollers for wood, and the wheat for the meatoffering; the whole do I give thee.
23 “Pode ficar com a eira, meu senhor, o rei”, disse Araúna. “Use-a como lhe parecer melhor. Eu lhe darei os bois para os holocaustos, as tábuas de trilhar como lenha para o fogo do altar e o trigo como oferta de cereais. Eu lhe darei tudo, ó rei.”
24 And king David said to Ornan, No: but I will surely buy it at the full value; for I will not take what is thine for the Lord, so as to offer burntofferings without paying therefore.
24 O rei Davi, porém, respondeu a Araúna: “Não! Faço questão de comprá-la pelo preço justo. Não tomarei o que é seu para oferecer ao S enhor . Não apresentarei holocaustos que nada me custaram”.
25 So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
25 Então Davi pagou a Araúna seiscentas peças de ouro pela eira.
26 And David built there an altar unto the Lord, and offered burntofferings and peaceofferings, and he called on the Lord: and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burntoffering.
26 Davi construiu ali um altar ao S enhor e ofereceu holocaustos e ofertas de paz. E, quando Davi orou, o S enhor respondeu com fogo do céu para queimar a oferta sobre o altar.
27 And the Lord spoke to the angel, and he put back his sword into its sheath.
27 Então o S enhor deu ordem para que o anjo pusesse a espada de volta na bainha.
28 At that time when David saw that the Lord had answered him on the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then did he sacrifice there.
28 Quando Davi percebeu que o S enhor havia respondido à sua oração, ofereceu sacrifícios ali na eira de Araúna, o jebuseu.
29 But the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burntoffering, were at that time in the highplace at Gibon.
29 Naquela época, o tabernáculo do S enhor , que Moisés havia feito no deserto, e o altar de holocaustos estavam no lugar de adoração em Gibeom.
30 But David was not able to go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the Lord.
30 Mas Davi não podia ir até lá para consultar Deus, pois tinha pavor da espada do anjo do S enhor .
