1 Forasmuch as many have attempted to set forth in order the history of those things which among us have been most certain,
1 Porquanto muitos já tentaram compilar um relato e pôr em ordem uma declaração daquelas coisas que certamente são cridas entre nós,
2 even as those who were eyewitnesses from the beginning taught us and [thus] were ministers of the word,
2 quando eles nos entregaram, os que desde o princípio foram testemunhas oculares e ministros da palavra,
3 it seemed good also to me, after having understood all the things from the beginning with great diligence, to write them unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
3 pareceu-me bem, também a mim, tendo perfeitamente compreendido primeiro todas as coisas, escrevê-las em ordem a ti, ó excelentíssimo Teófilo,
4 that thou mightest know the security of those things in which thou hast been instructed.
4 para que possas conhecer a certeza destas coisas, nas quais tens sido instruído.
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia, and his wife [was] of the daughters of Aaron, and her name [was] Elisabeth.
5 Nos dias de Herodes, rei da Judeia, havia um certo sacerdote de nome Zacarias, da turma de Abias; e sua esposa era das filhas de Aarão, e o seu nome era Elizabete.
6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless.
6 E ambos eram justos diante de Deus, andando sem culpa em todos os mandamentos e ordenanças do Senhor; eram irrepreensíveis.
7 And they had no child because Elisabeth was barren, and they both were [now] well advanced in years.
7 E eles não tinham filho, porque Elizabete era estéril, e ambos eram avançados em idade.
8 And it came to pass that while he executed the priest's office before God in the order of his course,
8 E aconteceu que, enquanto ele exercia o sacerdócio perante Deus, na ordem da sua turma,
9 according to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense entering into the temple of the Lord.
9 segundo o costume do sacerdócio, coube-lhe por sorte queimar incenso ao entrar no templo do Senhor.
10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the time of incense.
10 E toda a multidão do povo estava orando do lado de fora, à hora do incenso.
11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
11 E ali lhe apareceu um anjo do Senhor, em pé, à direita do altar do incenso.
12 And when Zacharias saw [him], he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
12 E quando Zacarias o viu, ficou perturbado, e o medo caiu sobre ele.
13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias, for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
13 Mas o anjo lhe disse: Não temas, Zacarias; porque a tua oração foi ouvida, e tua esposa Elizabete te dará um filho, e tu chamarás o seu nome de João.
14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
14 E tu terás alegria e regozijo, e muitos se alegrarão com o seu nascimento.
15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
15 Porque ele será grande à vista do Senhor, e ele não beberá vinho, nem bebida forte, e ele será cheio do Espírito Santo, já desde o ventre de sua mãe.
16 And he shall turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God.
16 E converterá muitos dos filhos de Israel ao Senhor seu Deus.
17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the rebellious to the prudence of the just, to make ready a prepared people for the Lord.
17 E irá adiante dele no espírito e no poder de Elias, para converter os corações dos pais aos filhos, e os desobedientes à prudência dos justos; tornar pronto um povo preparado para o Senhor.
18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife [is] well advanced in years.
18 E Zacarias disse ao anjo: Como eu saberei isto? Porque eu sou um homem velho, e minha esposa avançada em idade.
19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and am sent to speak unto thee and to show thee this gospel.
19 E, respondendo o anjo, disse-lhe: Eu sou Gabriel, que permaneço na presença de Deus, e sou enviado para falar-te, e para mostrar-te estas alegres notícias.
20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb and not able to speak until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou didst not believe my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
20 E eis que tu ficarás mudo, e não poderás falar até o dia em que estas coisas se cumprirem, porque tu não creste nas minhas palavras, que se cumprirão ao seu tempo.
21 And the people waited for Zacharias and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.
21 E o povo esperava por Zacarias, e admiravam-se que ele demorasse tanto tempo no templo.
22 And when he came out, he could not speak unto them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple, for he communicated with signs and remained speechless.
22 E quando ele saiu, não podia falar com eles, e perceberam que ele havia tido uma visão no templo; porque gesticulava para eles, e permanecia mudo.
23 And it came to pass that as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
23 E aconteceu que, tendo-se completado os dias do seu ministério, ele partiu para a sua própria casa.
24 And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived and hid herself five months, saying,
24 E, depois daqueles dias, sua esposa Elizabete engravidou, e escondeu-se por cinco meses, dizendo:
25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on [me], to take away my reproach among men.
25 Assim o Senhor fez comigo nos dias em que ele olhou para mim, para tirar a minha vergonha entre os homens.
26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee named Nazareth
26 E, no sexto mês, o anjo Gabriel foi enviado por Deus a uma cidade da Galileia, chamada Nazaré,
27 to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David and the virgin's name [was] Mary.
27 para uma virgem desposada com um homem, cujo nome era José, da casa de Davi; e o nome da virgem era Maria.
28 And the angel came in unto her and said, Hail, [thou that art] highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee; blessed [art] thou among women.
28 E o anjo se aproximou dela, e disse: Salve, tu que és muito favorecida; o Senhor está contigo; bendita és tu entre as mulheres.
29 And when she saw [him], she was troubled at his words and wondered in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
29 E, vendo-o, ela ficou perturbada com o que ele disse, e pôs-se a pensar que tipo de saudação seria essa.
30 Then the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God.
30 E o anjo lhe disse: Não temas, Maria; porque tu achaste graça diante de Deus.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth a son and shalt call his name Jesus.
31 E, eis que em teu ventre conceberás e darás à luz um filho, e lhe darás o nome de Jesus.
32 He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Highest, and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David;
32 Ele será grande, e será chamado Filho do Altíssimo; e o Senhor Deus lhe dará o trono de Davi, seu pai;
33 and he shall reign in the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
33 e ele reinará sobre a casa de Jacó para sempre, e o seu reino não terá fim.
34 Then Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
34 Então, disse Maria ao anjo: Como será isto, visto que eu não conheço homem algum?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee; therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called [the] Son of God.
35 E, respondendo o anjo, disse-lhe: O Espírito Santo virá sobre ti, e o poder do Altíssimo fará sombra sobre ti; por isso também o santo nascido de ti será chamado Filho de Deus.
36 And, behold, thy relative Elisabeth, she has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her, who [was] called barren.
36 E, eis que tua prima Elizabete, também concebeu um filho em sua velhice; e este é o sexto mês para ela, que era chamada estéril.
37 For with God nothing is impossible.
37 Porque com Deus nada será impossível.
38 Then Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
38 E disse Maria: Eis aqui a serva do Senhor; faça-se em mim segundo a tua palavra. E o anjo se ausentou.
39 And Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste into a city of Juda
39 E Maria se levantou naqueles dias, e foi apressadamente à região montanhosa, para uma cidade de Judá,
40 and entered into the house of Zacharias and saluted Elisabeth.
40 e entrou na casa de Zacarias, e saudou a Elizabete.
41 And it came to pass that when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit;
41 E aconteceu que, quando Elizabete ouviu a saudação de Maria, o bebê saltou no seu ventre, e Elizabete foi cheia com o Espírito Santo;
42 and she spoke out with a loud voice and said, Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb.
42 e ela falou em alta voz, dizendo: Abençoada és tu entre as mulheres, e abençoado é o fruto do teu ventre.
43 And whence [is] this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
43 E por que motivo isso é para mim, que a mãe do meu Senhor venha a mim?
44 For, behold, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
44 Pois, eis que assim que a voz da tua saudação soou aos meus ouvidos, o bebê saltou de alegria no meu ventre.
45 And blessed [is] she that believed, for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
45 E abençoada a que creu; porque haverá cumprimento das coisas que foram ditas pelo Senhor.
46 Then Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord,
46 E Maria disse: A minha alma engrandece ao Senhor,
47 and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saving Health,
47 e o meu espírito regozijou-se em Deus meu Salvador.
48 for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden; for, behold, from now on all generations shall call me blessed.
48 Pois ele tem considerado a humildade de sua serva; porquanto, eis que daqui em diante todas as gerações me chamarão de abençoada.
49 For he that is mighty has done great things unto me, and holy [is] his name.
49 Porque aquele que é poderoso me fez grandes coisas; e santo é o seu nome.
50 And his mercy [is] on those that fear him from generation to generation.
50 E a sua misericórdia está sobre os que o temem de geração em geração.
51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
51 Ele mostrou força com o seu braço; ele espalhou os orgulhosos na imaginação de seus corações.
52 He has put down the mighty from [their] thrones and exalted the humble.
52 Ele derrubou os poderosos de seus assentos, e exaltou os humildes.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away.
53 Ele encheu de coisas boas os famintos, e ao rico ele enviou vazio.
54 He has received his servant Israel in remembrance of [his] mercy
54 Ele ajudou a seu servo Israel, em lembrança de sua misericórdia;
55 as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed forever.
55 como ele falou a nossos pais, a Abraão e à sua semente para sempre.
56 And Mary abode with her about three months and then returned to her own house.
56 E Maria ficou com ela em torno de três meses, e depois voltou para sua própria casa.
57 Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered and she brought forth a son.
57 Ora, completou-se o tempo de Elizabete para o parto; e ela teve um filho.
58 And her neighbours and her relatives heard how the Lord had showed great mercy upon her, and they rejoiced with her.
58 E os seus vizinhos e parentes ouviram que o Senhor tinha mostrado grande misericórdia sobre ela, e regozijaram-se com ela.
59 And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called him Zacharias after the name of his father.
59 E aconteceu que, ao oitavo dia, eles vieram circuncidar o menino; e chamaram-no Zacarias, conforme o nome de seu pai.
60 And his mother answered and said, Not [so], but he shall be called John.
60 E, respondendo sua mãe, disse: Não! Mas ele será chamado de João.
61 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
61 E disseram-lhe: Não há ninguém na tua parentela que se chame por este nome.
62 And they communicated with signs to his father, [asking] how he would have him called.
62 E eles fizeram sinais ao pai, como ele queria que o chamasse.
63 And he asked for a writing table and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they all marvelled.
63 E, ele pedindo uma tábua de escrever, escreveu, dizendo: O seu nome é João. E todos se maravilharam.
64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue [loosed], and he spoke blessing God.
64 E sua boca foi aberta imediatamente, e soltou-se sua língua; e ele falava, louvando a Deus.
65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them, and all these things were spoken of throughout all the hill country of Judaea.
65 E veio temor sobre todos os que moravam ao seu redor; e todos estes dizeres foram divulgados ao longo de toda região montanhosa da Judeia.
66 And all those that heard [them] laid [them] up in their hearts, saying, Who shall this child be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
66 E todos os que ouviam os colocavam no seu coração, dizendo: Que tipo de menino será esse? E a mão do Senhor estava com ele.
67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying,
67 E seu pai Zacarias ficou cheio com o Espírito Santo, e profetizou, dizendo:
68 Blessed [be] the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and made redemption for his people
68 Bendito seja o Senhor Deus de Israel, porque tem visitado e redimido o seu povo,
69 And has raised up a horn of saving health for us in the house of his servant David,
69 e levantou para nós o chifre de salvação na casa de seu servo Davi,
70 as he spoke by the mouth of the saints who from the beginning were his prophets;
70 como ele falou pela boca dos seus santos profetas, desde o princípio do mundo;
71 salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all that hate us;
71 para nos salvar dos nossos inimigos e da mão de todos os que nos odeiam,
72 to fulfill mercy unto our fathers and remembering his holy covenant
72 para realizar a misericórdia prometida a nossos pais, e lembrar-se do seu santo pacto;
73 of the oath which he made to our father Abraham,
73 e do juramento que ele prometeu a nosso pai Abraão,
74 that he would grant unto us, that without fear delivered out of the hand of our enemies, we might serve him
74 de nos conceder que, libertados da mão dos nossos inimigos, possamos servi-lo sem medo,
75 in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life.
75 em santidade e justiça perante ele, todos os dias da nossa vida.
76 And thou, child, shalt be called prophet of the Most High, for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways,
76 E tu, ó menino, serás chamado profeta do Altíssimo; porque tu irás ante a face do Senhor, para preparar os seus caminhos,
77 giving knowledge of saving health unto his people for the remission of their sins
77 para dar o conhecimento da salvação ao seu povo, pela remissão dos seus pecados,
78 through the bowels of mercy of our God, whereby the dayspring from on high has visited us
78 mediante a terna misericórdia do nosso Deus, pela qual na aurora lá do alto nos visitou;
79 to give light to those that dwell in darkness and [in] the shadow of death, to direct our feet into the way of peace.
79 para dar luz aos que estão assentados em trevas e na sombra da morte, para guiar os nossos pés no caminho da paz.
80 And the child grew and was comforted of the Spirit and was in the deserts until the day of his showing unto Israel.:
80 E o menino crescia, e se fortalecia no espírito, e estava nos desertos até ao dia da sua aparição a Israel.
