Jeremias 18

1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
1 Palavra do Senhor que veio a Jeremias, dizendo:
2 Arise and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
2 Dispõe-te, e desce à casa do oleiro, e lá ouvirás as minhas palavras.
3 Then I went down to the potter's house; and, behold, he wrought a work upon [a] wheel.
3 Desci à casa do oleiro, e eis que ele estava entregue à sua obra sobre as rodas.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was broken in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make [it].
4 Como o vaso que o oleiro fazia de barro se lhe estragou na mão, tornou a fazer dele outro vaso, segundo bem lhe pareceu.
5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5 Então, veio a mim a palavra do Senhor :
6 O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay [is] in the potter's hand, so [are] ye in my hand, O house of Israel.
6 Não poderei eu fazer de vós como fez este oleiro, ó casa de Israel? — diz o Senhor ; eis que, como o barro na mão do oleiro, assim sois vós na minha mão, ó casa de Israel.
7 In an instant I shall speak against Gentiles and against kingdoms, to pluck up and to pull down and to destroy.
7 No momento em que eu falar acerca de uma nação ou de um reino para o arrancar, derribar e destruir,
8 But if these Gentiles shall turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
8 se a tal nação se converter da maldade contra a qual eu falei, também eu me arrependerei do mal que pensava fazer-lhe.
9 And in an instant I shall speak concerning the nation and concerning the kingdom, to build and to plant [it];
9 E, no momento em que eu falar acerca de uma nação ou de um reino, para o edificar e plantar,
10 but if it should do evil in my sight, not hearing my voice, then I will repent of the good that I had determined to do unto them.
10 se ele fizer o que é mau perante mim e não der ouvidos à minha voz, então, me arrependerei do bem que houvera dito lhe faria.
11 Now therefore, speak to every man of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus hath the LORD said: Behold, I ordain evil against you and devise plans against you; return ye now each one from his evil way, and better your ways and your doings.
11 Ora, pois, fala agora aos homens de Judá e aos moradores de Jerusalém, dizendo: Assim diz o Senhor : Eis que estou forjando mal e formo um plano contra vós outros; convertei-vos, pois, agora, cada um do seu mau proceder e emendai os vossos caminhos e as vossas ações.
12 And they said, This is useless, for we must walk after our own devices, and we must each one do the imagination of his evil heart.
12 Mas eles dizem: Não há esperança, porque andaremos consoante os nossos projetos, e cada um fará segundo a dureza do seu coração maligno.
13 Therefore thus hath the LORD said; Ask now among the Gentiles, who has heard such things: the virgin of Israel has done a very horrible thing.
13 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor : Perguntai agora entre os gentios sobre quem ouviu tal coisa. Coisa sobremaneira horrenda cometeu a virgem de Israel!
14 Will anyone leave the snow of the rock of the field that flows from Lebanon? [or] shall they forsake the singular, cold, flowing waters?
14 Acaso, a neve deixará o Líbano, a rocha que se ergue na planície? Ou faltarão as águas que vêm de longe, frias e correntes?
15 Because my people have forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused themselves to stumble in their ways, in the ancient paths, to walk in paths, [in] a way not trodden;
15 Contudo, todos os do meu povo se têm esquecido de mim, queimando incenso aos ídolos, que os fizeram tropeçar nos seus caminhos e nas veredas antigas, para que andassem por veredas não aterradas;
16 to make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passes thereby shall be astonished and wag his head.
16 para fazerem da sua terra um espanto e objeto de perpétuo assobio; todo aquele que passar por ela se espantará e meneará a cabeça.
17 I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their perdition.
17 Com vento oriental os espalharei diante do inimigo; mostrar-lhes-ei as costas e não o rosto, no dia da sua calamidade.
18 Then they said, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not consider any of his words.
18 Então, disseram: Vinde, e forjemos projetos contra Jeremias; porquanto não há de faltar a lei ao sacerdote, nem o conselho ao sábio, nem a palavra ao profeta; vinde, firamo-lo com a língua e não atendamos a nenhuma das suas palavras.
19 Consider me, O LORD, and hear the voice of those that contend with me.
19 Olha para mim, Senhor , e ouve a voz dos que contendem comigo.
20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them [and] to turn away thy wrath from them.
20 Acaso, pagar-se-á mal por bem? Pois abriram uma cova para a minha alma. Lembra-te de que eu compareci à tua presença, para interceder pelo seu bem-estar, para desviar deles a tua indignação.
21 Therefore deliver up their sons to the famine, and pour out their [blood] by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and [be] widows; and let their men be put to death; [let] their young men [be] slain by the sword in battle.
21 Portanto, entrega seus filhos à fome e ao poder da espada; sejam suas mulheres roubadas dos filhos e fiquem viúvas; seus maridos sejam mortos de peste, e os seus jovens, feridos à espada na peleja.
22 Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them; for they have dug a pit to take me and hid snares for my feet.
22 Ouça-se o clamor de suas casas, quando trouxeres bandos sobre eles de repente. Porquanto abriram cova para prender-me e puseram armadilha aos meus pés.
23 Yet, LORD, thou dost know all their counsel against me to slay [me]; do not forgive their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal [thus] with them in the time of thine anger.:
23 Mas tu, ó Senhor , sabes todo o seu conselho contra mim para matar-me; não lhes perdoes a iniquidade, nem lhes apagues o pecado de diante da tua face; mas sejam derribados diante de ti; age contra eles no tempo da tua ira.
