1 And Jacob dwelt in the land in which his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.
1 E Jacó habitou na terra em que seu pai foi estrangeiro, na terra de Canaã.
2 These [are] the generations of Jacob. Joseph, [being] seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad [was] with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives; and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.
2 Estas são as gerações de Jacó. José, sendo da idade de dezessete anos, estava apascentando as ovelhas com seus irmãos. E o rapaz estava com os filhos de Bila, e com os filhos de Zilpa, mulheres de seu pai. E José trouxe a seu pai más notícias sobre eles.
3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his [other] sons because he [was] the son of his old age, and he made him a coat of [many] colours.
3 Ora, Israel amava José mais do que a todos os seus filhos, porque ele era o filho da sua velhice, e ele lhe fez uma túnica de muitas cores.
4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him and could not speak peaceably unto him.
4 E quando seus irmãos viram que seu pai o amava mais do que a todos os seus irmãos, eles o odiaram, e não conseguiam falar pacificamente com ele.
5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told [it] to his brethren; and they hated him yet the more.
5 E José sonhou um sonho, e o contou a seus irmãos; e eles o odiaram ainda mais.
6 And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:
6 E ele lhes disse: Ouvi, rogo-vos, este sonho que eu sonhei:
7 For, behold, we [were] binding sheaves in the field, and, behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about and made obeisance to my sheaf.
7 Eis que estávamos amarrando feixes no campo; e eis que meu feixe se levantava e ficava em pé. E eis que vossos feixes estavam em pé ao redor e faziam reverência ao meu feixe.
8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? Or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams and for his words.
8 E seus irmãos lhe disseram: Deverias tu reinar sobre nós? Ou deverias ter domínio sobre nós? E eles o odiaram ainda mais por seus sonhos, e por suas palavras.
9 And he dreamed yet another dream and told it [to] his brethren, saying, Behold, I have dreamed another dream; and, behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars made obeisance to me.
9 E ele sonhou ainda outro sonho, e o contou a seus irmãos, e disse: Eis que eu sonhei mais um sonho. E eis que o sol e a lua e onze estrelas faziam reverência a mim.
10 And he told [it] to his father and to his brethren; and his father reprehended him and said unto him, What [is] this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
10 E ele o contou a seu pai, e a seus irmãos; e seu pai o repreendeu, e lhe disse: O que é este sonho que tu sonhaste? Iremos eu e tua mãe e teus irmãos, de fato nos curvar diante de ti em terra?
11 And his brethren envied him; but his father kept the word.
11 E seus irmãos o invejaram; mas seu pai observou o que se dizia.
12 And his brethren went to feed their father's sheep in Shechem.
12 E seus irmãos foram apascentar o rebanho de seu pai em Siquém.
13 And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed [the sheep] in Shechem? Come and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here [am] I.
13 E Israel disse a José: Teus irmãos não estão apascentando o rebanho em Siquém? Vem, e eu te enviarei a eles. E ele disse: Aqui eu estou.
14 And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it is well with thy brethren and well with the sheep and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
14 E ele lhe disse: Vai, rogo-te, vê se está bem com teus irmãos, e bem com os rebanhos, e traze-me palavra novamente. Assim ele o enviou do vale de Hebrom, e ele foi a Siquém.
15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, [he was] wandering in the field; and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?
15 E um certo homem o encontrou; e eis que ele estava vagando pelo campo. E o homem lhe perguntou, dizendo: O que tu estás procurando?
16 And he said, I seek my brethren; tell me, I pray thee, where they feed [their flocks].
16 E ele disse: Eu procuro os meus irmãos. Dize-me, rogo-te, onde eles estão apascentando seus rebanhos.
17 And the man said, They are departed from here; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren and found them in Dothan.
17 E o homem disse: Eles partiram daqui, pois eu os ouvi dizendo: Vamo-nos a Dotã. E José foi após seus irmãos, e os encontrou em Dotã.
18 And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
18 E quando eles o viram de longe, antes que se aproximasse deles, conspiraram contra ele para matá-lo.
19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer comes;
19 E eles disseram uns aos outros: Eis que está vindo o sonhador.
20 now therefore, come and let us slay him and cast him into a cistern, and we will say, Some evil beast has devoured him; and we shall see what will become of his dreams.
20 Vamos, pois, matá-lo e lançá-lo numa cova, e diremos: Algum animal o devorou, e veremos o que se tornará os seus sonhos.
21 When Reuben heard [it], he delivered him out of their hands and said, Let us not kill him.
21 E Rúben ouvindo isso, o livrou de suas mãos, e disse: Não o matemos.
22 And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood [but] cast him into this cistern that [is] in the wilderness and lay no hand upon him that he might rid him out of their hands to deliver him to his father again.
22 E Rúben lhes disse: Não derrameis sangue, mas lançai-o nesta cova que está no deserto, e não ponde as mãos sobre ele; disse isso a fim de livrá-lo de suas mãos para fazê-lo voltar ao seu pai.
23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stripped Joseph out of his coat, [his] coat of [many] colours that [was] on him;
23 E aconteceu que, quando José havia chegado a seus irmãos, eles despiram José de sua túnica, a túnica de muitas cores que estava nele;
24 and they took him and cast him into the cistern; and the pit [was] empty, [there was] no water in it.
24 e eles o tomaram, e o lançaram em uma cova. E a cova estava vazia, não havia água nela.
25 And they sat down to eat bread; and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing aromas and balm and myrrh, going to carry [it] down to Egypt.
25 E eles sentaram-se para comer pão, e levantaram seus olhos e olharam, e eis que uma companhia de ismaelitas vinha de Gileade com seus camelos carregando especiarias e bálsamo e mirra, transportando para o Egito.
26 Then Judah said unto his brethren, What profit [is it] if we slay our brother and conceal his blood?
26 E Judá disse a seus irmãos: Que proveito haverá se matarmos nosso irmão e escondermos seu sangue?
27 Come and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites and let not our hand be upon him; for he [is] our brother [and] our flesh. And his brethren were content.
27 Vinde, e vendamo-lo aos ismaelitas, e que nossas mãos não estejam sobre ele, pois ele é nosso irmão e nossa carne; e seus irmãos ficaram satisfeitos.
28 And when the Midianite merchantmen passed by, they took and lifted up Joseph out of the cistern and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty [pieces] of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt.
28 Então, passavam ali mercadores midianitas, e eles tiraram e levantaram José da cova, e venderam José aos ismaelitas por vinte peças de prata; e eles trouxeram José ao Egito.
29 And Reuben returned unto the cistern; and, behold, Joseph [was] not inside, and he rent his clothes.
29 E Rúben retornou à cova, e eis que José não estava na cova; e ele rasgou suas vestes.
30 And he returned unto his brethren and said, The young man [is] not; and I, where shall I go?
30 E ele retornou aos seus irmãos, e disse: O menino não está; e eu, para onde irei?
31 Then they took Joseph's coat and killed a kid of the goats and dipped the coat in the blood;
31 E eles tomaram a túnica de José, e mataram um cabrito, e mergulharam a túnica no sangue.
32 and they sent the coat of [many] colours, and they brought [it] to their father and said, We have found this, recognize now whether it [is] thy son's coat or not.
32 E eles enviaram a túnica de muitas cores, e a levaram a seu pai, e disseram: Achamos isto; vê agora se é ou não a túnica de teu filho.
33 And he knew it and said, [It is] my son's coat; an evil beast has devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.
33 E ele a reconheceu, e disse: É a túnica de meu filho; uma fera o devorou; José sem dúvida foi rasgado em pedaços.
34 Then Jacob rent his clothes and put sackcloth upon his loins and mourned for his son many days.
34 E Jacó rasgou suas vestes, e colocou pano de saco sobre os seus lombos, e lamentou por seu filho durante muitos dias.
35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted, and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.
35 E todos os seus filhos e todas as suas filhas se levantaram para consolá-lo, mas ele recusou ser consolado. E ele disse: Pois, eu descerei ao túmulo lamentando meu filho. Assim seu pai chorou por ele.
36 And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's [and] captain of the guard.:
36 E os midianitas o venderam ao Egito, a Potifar, oficial de Faraó, e capitão da guarda.
