1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
1 Às margens dos rios da Babilônia, nós nos assentávamos e chorávamos, lembrando-nos de Sião.
2 Upon the willows in the midst thereof we hanged up our harps.
2 Nos salgueiros que lá havia, pendurávamos as nossas harpas,
3 For there they that led us captive asked of us words of song, and our tormentors asked of us mirth: 'Sing us one of the songs of Zion.'
3 pois aqueles que nos levaram cativos nos pediam canções, e os nossos opressores, que fôssemos alegres, dizendo: Entoai-nos algum dos cânticos de Sião.
4 How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a foreign land?
4 Como, porém, haveríamos de entoar o canto do Senhor em terra estranha?
5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
5 Se eu de ti me esquecer, ó Jerusalém, que se resseque a minha mão direita.
6 Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I remember thee not; if I set not Jerusalem above my chiefest joy.
6 Apegue-se-me a língua ao paladar, se me não lembrar de ti, se não preferir eu Jerusalém à minha maior alegria.
7 Remember, O LORD, against the children of Edom the day of Jerusalem; who said: 'Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.'
7 Contra os filhos de Edom, lembra-te, Senhor , do dia de Jerusalém, pois diziam: Arrasai, arrasai-a, até aos fundamentos.
8 O daughter of Babylon, that art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that repayeth thee as thou hast served us.
8 Filha da Babilônia, que hás de ser destruída, feliz aquele que te der o pago do mal que nos fizeste.
9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the rock.
9 Feliz aquele que pegar teus filhos e esmagá-los contra a pedra.
