1 My son, if thou art become surety for thy neighbour, if thou hast struck thy hands for a stranger--
1 Meu filho, se você aceitou ser fiador de seu amigo ou se concordou em garantir a dívida de um estranho,
2 Thou art snared by the words of thy mouth, thou art caught by the words of thy mouth--
2 se caiu numa armadilha por causa do acordo feito e se está preso por suas palavras,
3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, seeing thou art come into the hand of thy neighbour; go, humble thyself, and urge thy neighbour.
3 siga meu conselho e livre-se dessa obrigação, pois você se colocou nas mãos de seu amigo. Procure-o, humilhe-se e insista com ele.
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
4 Não deixe para amanhã; não descanse enquanto não resolver essa situação.
5 Deliver thyself as a gazelle from the hand of the hunter , and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
5 Livre-se como a gazela que escapa do caçador, como o pássaro que foge da rede.
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise;
6 Aprenda com a formiga, preguiçoso! Observe como ela age e seja sábio.
7 Which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,
7 Embora não tenha príncipe, nem autoridade, nem governante,
8 Provideth her bread in the summer, and gatherest her food in the harvest.
8 ela trabalha duro durante todo o verão, juntando comida para o inverno.
9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
9 Mas você, preguiçoso, até quando dormirá? Quando sairá da cama?
10 'Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep'--
10 Um pouco mais de sono, mais um cochilo, mais um descanso com os braços cruzados,
11 So shall thy poverty come as a runner, and thy want as an armed man.
11 e a pobreza o assaltará como um bandido; a escassez o atacará como um ladrão armado.
12 A base person, a man of iniquity, is he that walketh with a froward mouth;
12 Como são os desprezíveis e os perversos? Eles vivem mentindo:
13 That winketh with his eyes, that scrapeth with his feet, that pointeth with his fingers;
13 demonstram sua falsidade com um piscar de olho, com um movimento do pé ou por sinais com os dedos.
14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth evil continually; he soweth discord.
14 Seu coração pervertido trama a maldade, e andam sempre criando problemas.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; on a sudden shall he be broken, and that without remedy.
15 Por isso, serão destruídos de repente, despedaçados num instante sem que possam se recuperar.
16 There are six things which the LORD hateth, yea, seven which are an abomination unto Him:
16 Há seis coisas que o S enhor odeia, ou melhor, sete coisas que ele considera detestáveis:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;
17 olhos arrogantes, língua mentirosa, mãos que matam o inocente,
18 A heart that deviseth wicked thoughts, feet that are swift in running to evil;
18 coração que trama a maldade, pés que se apressam em fazer o mal,
19 A false witness that breatheth out lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
19 testemunha falsa que diz mentiras, e aquele que semeia desentendimento entre irmãos.
20 My son, keep the commandment of thy father, and forsake not the teaching of thy mother;
20 Meu filho, obedeça aos mandamentos de seu pai e não deixe de lado a instrução de sua mãe.
21 Bind them continually upon thy heart, tie them about thy neck.
21 Guarde as palavras deles em seu coração e amarre-as em seu pescoço.
22 When thou walkest, it shall lead thee, when thou liest down, it shall watch over thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
22 Quando você andar, os conselhos de seus pais o guiarão; quando dormir, eles o protegerão; quando acordar, eles o orientarão.
23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching is light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life;
23 Pois o mandamento é lâmpada, e a instrução é luz; e as correções da disciplina são o caminho que conduz à vida.
24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the smoothness of the alien tongue.
24 Eles o protegerão da mulher imoral, das palavras sedutoras da promíscua.
25 Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; neither let her captivate thee with her eyelids.
25 Não cobice sua beleza; não deixe que seus olhares o seduzam.
26 For on account of a harlot a man is brought to a loaf of bread, but the adulteress hunteth for the precious life.
26 Pois a prostituta o levará à pobreza, mas dormir com a esposa de outro homem lhe custará a vida.
27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
27 Pode um homem carregar fogo junto ao peito sem que a roupa se queime?
28 Or can one walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?
28 Pode alguém caminhar sobre brasas sem que os pés se queimem?
29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not go unpunished.
29 Assim acontece com quem dorme com a mulher de outro; aquele que a toca não ficará sem castigo.
30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
30 Pode-se encontrar desculpa para o ladrão que rouba porque está com fome.
31 But if he be found, he must restore sevenfold, he must give all the substance of his house.
31 Ainda assim, se for apanhado, terá de pagar sete vezes o que roubou, mesmo que precise vender tudo que há em sua casa.
32 He that committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding; he doeth it that would destroy his own soul.
32 Mas o homem que comete adultério não tem juízo, pois destrói a si mesmo.
33 Wounds and dishonour shall he get, and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
33 Será ferido e desonrado, e sua vergonha jamais se apagará.
34 For jealousy is the rage of a man, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
34 Porque o marido ciumento ficará furioso e não terá misericórdia quando se vingar.
35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
35 Não aceitará compensação alguma, nem se satisfará com os presentes mais valiosos.
