1 He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck shall suddenly be broken, and that without remedy.
1 O homem que muitas vezes repreendido endurece a cerviz será quebrantado de repente sem que haja cura.
2 When the righteous are increased, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people sigh.
2 Quando se multiplicam os justos, o povo se alegra, quando, porém, domina o perverso, o povo suspira.
3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; but he that keepeth company with harlots wasteth his substance.
3 O homem que ama a sabedoria alegra a seu pai, mas o companheiro de prostitutas desperdiça os bens.
4 The king by justice establisheth the land; but he that exacteth gifts overthroweth it.
4 O rei justo sustém a terra, mas o amigo de impostos a transtorna.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.
5 O homem que lisonjeia a seu próximo arma-lhe uma rede aos passos.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
6 Na transgressão do homem mau, há laço, mas o justo canta e se regozija.
7 The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; the wicked understandeth not knowledge.
7 Informa-se o justo da causa dos pobres, mas o perverso de nada disso quer saber.
8 Scornful men set a city in a blaze; but wise men turn away wrath.
8 Os homens escarnecedores alvoroçam a cidade, mas os sábios desviam a ira.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he be angry or laugh, there will be no rest.
9 Se o homem sábio discute com o insensato, quer este se encolerize, quer se ria, não haverá fim.
10 The men of blood hate him that is sincere; and as for the upright, they seek his life.
10 Os sanguinários aborrecem o íntegro, ao passo que, quanto aos retos, procuram tirar-lhes a vida.
11 A fool spendeth all his spirit; but a wise man stilleth it within him.
11 O insensato expande toda a sua ira, mas o sábio afinal lha reprime.
12 If a ruler hearkeneth to falsehood, all his servants are wicked.
12 Se o governador dá atenção a palavras mentirosas, virão a ser perversos todos os seus servos.
13 The poor man and the oppressor meet together; the LORD giveth light to the eyes of them both.
13 O pobre e o seu opressor se encontram, mas é o
14 The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
14 O rei que julga os pobres com equidade firmará o seu trono para sempre.
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left to himself causeth shame to his mother.
15 A vara e a disciplina dão sabedoria, mas a criança entregue a si mesma vem a envergonhar a sua mãe.
16 When the wicked are increased, transgression increaseth; but the righteous shall gaze upon their fall.
16 Quando os perversos se multiplicam, multiplicam-se as transgressões, mas os justos verão a ruína deles.
17 Correct thy son, and he will give thee rest; yea, he will give delight unto thy soul.
17 Corrige o teu filho, e te dará descanso, dará delícias à tua alma.
18 Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint; but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
18 Não havendo profecia, o povo se corrompe; mas o que guarda a lei, esse é feliz.
19 A servant will not be corrected by words; for though he understand, there will be no response.
19 O servo não se emendará com palavras, porque, ainda que entenda, não obedecerá.
20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope for a fool than for him.
20 Tens visto um homem precipitado nas suas palavras? Maior esperança há para o insensato do que para ele.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become master at the last.
21 Se alguém amimar o escravo desde a infância, por fim ele quererá ser filho.
22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a wrathful man aboundeth in transgression.
22 O iracundo levanta contendas, e o furioso multiplica as transgressões.
23 A man's pride shall bring him low; but he that is of a lowly spirit shall attain to honour.
23 A soberba do homem o abaterá, mas o humilde de espírito obterá honra.
24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration and uttereth nothing.
24 O que tem parte com o ladrão aborrece a própria alma; ouve as maldições e nada denuncia.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be set up on high.
25 Quem teme ao homem arma ciladas, mas o que confia no
26 Many seek the ruler's favour; but a man's judgment cometh from the LORD.
26 Muitos buscam o favor daquele que governa, mas para o homem a justiça vem do
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous; and he that is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.
27 Para o justo, o iníquo é abominação, e o reto no seu caminho é abominação ao perverso.
