1 Boast not thyself of to-morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
1 Não te gabes do amanhã, porque não sabes o que trará o dia.
2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
2 Deixai que outro homem te louve, e não a tua própria boca; um estranho, e não os teus próprios lábios.
3 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's vexation is heavier than they both.
3 Uma pedra é pesada, e a areia tem peso; mas a ira do tolo é mais pesada que ambas.
4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy?
4 A ira é cruel, e a raiva é ultrajante, mas quem é capaz de permanecer diante da inveja?
5 Better is open rebuke than love that is hidden.
5 Melhor é a repreensão aberta do que o amor secreto.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are importunate.
6 Fiéis são as feridas de um amigo, mas os beijos de um inimigo são enganosos.
7 The full soul loatheth a honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
7 A alma cheia detesta o favo de mel, mas para a alma faminta cada coisa amarga é doce.
8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
8 Como um pássaro que vagueia para longe do seu ninho, assim é um homem que vagueia longe do seu lugar.
9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
9 O unguento e perfume regozijam o coração; assim o faz a doçura do amigo de um homem pelo conselho cordial.
10 Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity; better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
10 Não abandones o teu amigo, ou o amigo de teu pai; nem entres na casa de teu irmão no dia da tua calamidade, porque melhor é um vizinho que está perto do que um irmão longe.
11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that taunteth me.
11 Meu filho, sê sábio, e alegra o meu coração, para que eu possa responder àquele que me repreende.
12 A prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the thoughtless pass on, and are punished.
12 Um homem prudente prevê o mal e se esconde, mas os simples seguem adiante e são punidos.
13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; and hold him in pledge that is surety for an alien woman.
13 Toma a roupa daquele que é fiador de um estranho, e toma o penhor daquele que o é para uma mulher estranha.
14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
14 Aquele que abençoa o seu amigo em voz alta, levantando cedo de manhã, isso lhe será computado como maldição.
15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike;
15 O gotejar contínuo em um dia muito chuvoso, e uma mulher contenciosa são semelhantes.
16 He that would hide her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand betrayeth itself.
16 Quem quer que a esconda, esconde o vento, e o unguento de sua mão direita, que denuncia a si.
17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
17 O ferro afia o ferro; assim também, um homem afia o semblante de seu amigo.
18 Whoso keepeth the fig-tree shall eat the fruit thereof; and he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
18 Quem quer que cuide da figueira comerá seu fruto; assim também, aquele que esperar pelo seu senhor será honrado.
19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
19 Como na água a face corresponde à face, assim também, o coração do homem ao homem.
20 The nether-world and Destruction are never satiated; so the eyes of man are never satiated.
20 O inferno e a destruição nunca estão cheios; assim também, os olhos do homem nunca estão satisfeitos.
21 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, and a man is tried by his praise.
21 Como o crisol é para a prata, e a fornalha para o ouro; assim é um homem para o seu louvor.
22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar with a pestle among groats, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
22 Mesmo que tritures um tolo num pilão entre o trigo com um pistilo, ainda assim, sua tolice não se apartará dele.
23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds;
23 Sê tu diligente para conhecer o estado de teus rebanhos, e olha bem para as tuas manadas.
24 For riches are not for ever; and doth the crown endure unto all generations?
24 Porque as riquezas não são para sempre; e a coroa dura em todas as gerações?
25 When the hay is mown, and the tender grass showeth itself, and the herbs of the mountains are gathered in;
25 O feno aparece, e a grama tenra se mostra, e as ervas dos montes se juntam.
26 The lambs will be for thy clothing, and the goats the price for a field.
26 Os cordeiros são para o teu vestir, e os bodes são o preço do campo.
27 And there will be goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household; and maintenance for thy maidens.
27 E tu terás leite de cabra o suficiente para o teu alimento, para o alimento da tua família, e para o sustento das tuas donzelas.
