1 Now Pashhur the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.
1 Pasur, filho de Imer, sacerdote encarregado do templo do S enhor , ouviu o que Jeremias profetizava.
2 Then Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of the LORD.
2 Mandou prender o profeta Jeremias e ordenou que o açoitassem e o pusessem no tronco junto à porta de Benjamim, no templo do S enhor .
3 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him: 'The LORD hath not called thy name Pashhur, but Magormissabib.
3 No dia seguinte, Pasur o soltou, e Jeremias disse: “Pasur, o S enhor mudou seu nome. De agora em diante, você será chamado de ‘Homem que Vive em Terror’.
4 For thus saith the LORD: Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.
4 Pois assim diz o S enhor : ‘Enviarei terror sobre você e sobre todos os seus amigos, e você verá quando forem mortos pelas espadas do inimigo. Entregarei o povo de Judá ao rei da Babilônia, e ele os levará presos para a Babilônia ou os atravessará com a espada.
5 Moreover I will give all the store of this city, and all the gains thereof, and all the wealth thereof, yea, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, who shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.
5 Entregarei Jerusalém nas mãos de seus inimigos, e eles saquearão todos os tesouros da cidade — as pedras preciosas, o ouro e a prata de seus reis — e levarão para a Babilônia.
6 And thou, Pashhur, and all that dwell in thy house shall go into captivity; and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and there shalt thou be buried, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied falsely.'
6 Você, Pasur, e todos em sua casa serão levados para o exílio na Babilônia. Ali morrerão e serão sepultados, você e todos os seus amigos a quem você profetizou mentiras’”.
7 O LORD, Thou hast enticed me, and I was enticed, Thou hast overcome me, and hast prevailed; I am become a laughing-stock all the day, every one mocketh me.
7 Ó S enhor , tu me constrangeste, e eu me deixei constranger. És mais forte que eu e prevaleceste. Agora, sou motivo de zombaria todos os dias; todos riem de mim.
8 For as often as I speak, I cry out, I cry: 'Violence and spoil'; because the word of the LORD is made a reproach unto me, and a derision, all the day.
8 Pois, sempre que abro a boca, é para gritar: “Violência e destruição!”. Essas mensagens do S me transformaram em alvo constante de piadas.
9 And if I say: 'I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name', then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I weary myself to hold it in, but cannot.
9 Mas, se digo que nunca mais mencionarei o S enhor , nem falarei em seu nome, sua palavra arde como fogo em meu coração; é como fogo em meus ossos. Estou cansado de tentar contê-la; é impossível!
10 For I have heard the whispering of many, terror on every side: 'Denounce, and we will denounce him'; even of all my familiar friends, them that watch for my halting: 'Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.'
10 Ouvi muitos boatos a meu respeito; me chamam de “Homem que Vive em Terror” e me ameaçam: “Se disser alguma coisa, o denunciaremos”. Até os que se dizem amigos íntimos me vigiam e esperam que eu cometa algum erro fatal. Dizem: “Ele cairá em sua própria armadilha; então nos vingaremos dele”.
11 But the LORD is with me as a mighty warrior; therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be greatly ashamed, because they have not prospered, even with an everlasting confusion which shall never be forgotten.
11 O S enhor , porém, está ao meu lado como poderoso guerreiro. Diante dele meus perseguidores tropeçarão; não conseguirão me derrotar. Fracassarão e serão totalmente humilhados; sua desonra jamais será esquecida.
12 But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, that seest the reins and the heart, let me see Thy vengeance on them; for unto Thee have I revealed my cause.
12 Ó S enhor dos Exércitos, tu provas o justo e examinas pensamentos e emoções. Permite que eu veja tua vingança contra eles, pois coloquei minha causa em tuas mãos.
13 Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD; for He hath delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evil-doers.
13 Cantem ao S enhor ! Louvem o S Pois ele salva o pobre e necessitado da mão de seus opressores.
14 Cursed be the day wherein I was born; the day wherein my mother bore me, let it not be blessed.
14 E, no entanto, amaldiçoo o dia em que nasci; ninguém celebre o dia em que minha mãe me deu à luz.
15 Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying: 'A man-child is born unto thee'; making him very glad.
15 Maldito o mensageiro que disse a meu pai: “Tenho boas notícias! Alegre-se, seu filho nasceu!”.
16 And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not; and let him hear a cry in the morning, and an alarm at noontide;
16 Que ele seja destruído como as cidades antigas que o S Que seja aterrorizado todo o dia com gritos de guerra,
17 Because He slew me not from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great.
17 pois não me matou quando nasci. Quem dera eu tivesse morrido no ventre de minha mãe e seu corpo tivesse sido minha sepultura!
18 Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed in shame?
18 Por que eu nasci? Toda a minha vida é apenas sofrimento, tristeza e vergonha.
