1 And when the King Hezekiah heard it, he rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth and came into the House of the Lord.
1 Quando o rei Ezequias ouviu esse relato, rasgou as roupas, vestiu-se com panos de saco e entrou no templo do S enhor .
2 And he sent Eliakim the stewarde of the house, aud Shebna the chanceller, with the Elders of the Priestes, clothed in sackcloth vnto Isaiah the Prophet, the sonne of Amoz.
2 Enviou Eliaquim, o administrador do palácio, Sebna, o secretário da corte, e os principais sacerdotes, todos vestidos com panos de saco, ao profeta Isaías, filho de Amoz.
3 And they sayd vnto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of tribulation and of rebuke and blasphemie: for the children are come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring foorth.
3 Eles lhe disseram: “Assim diz o rei Ezequias: ‘Hoje é um dia de angústia, insulto e humilhação. É como quando a criança está prestes a nascer, mas a mãe não tem forças para dar à luz.
4 If so be the Lord thy God hath heard the wordes of Rabshakeh, whom the King of Asshur his master hath sent to raile on the liuing God, and to reproch him with wordes which the Lord thy God hath heard, then lift thou vp thy prayer for the remnant that are left.
4 Contudo, talvez o S enhor , seu Deus, tenha ouvido o porta-voz que o rei da Assíria enviou para desafiar o Deus vivo e o castigue por suas palavras. Por favor, ore por nós que restamos!’”.
5 So the seruants of the King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
5 Depois que os oficiais do rei Ezequias transmitiram a mensagem ao profeta Isaías,
6 And Isaiah sayde vnto them, Thus say vnto your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not afrayd of the wordes that thou hast heard, wherewith the seruants of the king of Asshur haue blasphemed me.
6 ele respondeu: “Digam ao rei que assim diz o S enhor : ‘Não se assuste com os insultos que os mensageiros do rei da Assíria lançaram contra mim.
7 Beholde, I wil send a blast vpon him, and he shall heare a noyse, and returne to his owne land, and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his owne land.
7 Ouça! Eu mesmo agirei contra o rei da Assíria, e ele receberá notícias que o farão voltar para sua terra. Ali eu providenciarei que ele seja morto à espada’”.
8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the King of Asshur fighting against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
8 Enquanto isso, o porta-voz partiu de Jerusalém e foi consultar o rei da Assíria, pois tinha sido informado de que o rei havia deixado Laquis e estava atacando Libna.
9 He heard also men say of Tirhakah, King of Ethiopia, Beholde, he is come out to fight against thee: and when he heard it, he sent other messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
9 Logo depois, o rei Senaqueribe recebeu a notícia de que Tiraca, rei da Etiópia, havia saído com seu exército para lutar contra ele. Então enviou seus homens de volta a Ezequias em Jerusalém com a seguinte mensagem:
10 Thus shall ye speake to Hezekiah King of Iudah, saying, Let not thy God deceiue thee, in whom thou trustest, saying, Ierusalem shall not be giuen into the hand of the King of Asshur.
10 “Esta é uma mensagem para Ezequias, rei de Judá. Não deixe que seu Deus, em quem você confia, o engane com promessas de que Jerusalém não será conquistada pelo rei da Assíria.
11 Beholde, thou hast heard what the Kings of Asshur haue done to all lands in destroying them, and shalt thou be deliuered?
11 Você sabe muito bem o que os reis da Assíria fizeram por onde passaram. Destruíram completamente todos que atravessaram seu caminho! Quem é você para escapar?
12 Haue the gods of the nations deliuered them, which my fathers haue destroyed? as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden, which were at Telassar?
12 Acaso os deuses de outras nações, como Gozã, Harã, Rezefe, e o povo de Éden, que estava em Telassar, as livraram? Meus antecessores destruíram todos eles!
13 Where is the King of Hamath, and the King of Arpad, and the King of the citie of Sepharuaim, Hena and Iuah?
13 O que aconteceu ao rei de Hamate e ao rei de Arpade? O que aconteceu aos reis de Sefarvaim, de Hena e de Iva?”.
14 So Hezekiah receiued the letter of the hand of the messengers and read it, and he went vp into the House of the Lord, and Hezekiah spread it before the Lord.
14 Depois que Ezequias recebeu a carta dos mensageiros e a leu, subiu ao templo do S enhor e a estendeu diante do S enhor .
15 And Hezekiah prayed vnto the Lord, saying,
15 Então Ezequias fez esta oração na presença do S enhor :
16 O Lord of hostes, God of Israel, which dwellest betweene the Cherubims, thou art very God alone ouer all the kingdomes of the earth: thou hast made the heauen and the earth.
16 “Ó S enhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel, que estás entronizado entre os querubins! Só tu és Deus de todos os reinos da terra. Sim, tu criaste os céus e a terra.
17 Encline thine eare, O Lord, and heare: open thine eyes, O Lord, and see, and heare all the wordes of Saneherib, who hath sent to blaspheme the liuing God.
17 Inclina teus ouvidos, ó S enhor , e ouve! Abre teus olhos, ó S enhor , e vê! Ouve as palavras com as quais Senaqueribe desafia o Deus vivo!
18 Trueth it is, O Lord, that the Kings of Asshur haue destroyed all lands, and their countrey,
18 “É verdade, S enhor , que os reis da Assíria destruíram todas essas nações.
19 And haue cast their gods in ye fire: for they were no gods, but the worke of mans hands, euen wood or stone: therefore they destroyed them.
19 Lançaram os deuses dessas nações no fogo e os queimaram. É claro que os assírios conseguiram destruí-los! Não eram deuses de verdade, mas apenas ídolos de madeira e pedra moldados por mãos humanas.
20 Nowe therefore, O Lord our God, saue thou vs out of his hand, that all the kingdomes of the earth may knowe, that thou onely art the Lord.
20 Agora, S enhor , nosso Deus, salva-nos do poder desse rei; então todos os reinos da terra saberão que somente tu, S enhor , és Deus”.
21 Then Isaiah the sonne of Amoz sent vnto Hezekiah, saying, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Because thou hast prayed vnto me, concerning Saneherib king of Asshur,
21 Então Isaías, filho de Amoz, enviou esta mensagem a Ezequias: “Assim diz o S enhor , o Deus de Israel: Visto que você orou a mim a respeito de Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria,
22 This is the worde that the Lord hath spoken against him, the virgine, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorne: the daughter of Ierusalem, hath shaken her head at thee.
22 o S enhor proferiu esta palavra contra ele: “A filha virgem de Sião o despreza e ri de você. A filha de Jerusalém balança a cabeça com desdém enquanto você foge.
23 Whome hast thou railed on and blasphemed? and against whome hast thou exalted thy voyce, and lifted vp thine eyes on hie? euen against the holy one of Israel.
23 “A quem você desafiou e de quem zombou? Contra quem levantou a voz? Para quem olhou com arrogância? Para o Santo de Israel!
24 By thy seruants hast thou railed on the Lord, and sayd, By the multitude of my charets I am come vp to the top of the mountaines to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut downe the hie cedars thereof, and the faire firre trees thereof, and I will goe vp to the heightes of his top and to the forest of his fruitfull places.
24 Por meio de seus mensageiros, desafiou o Senhor. Disse: ‘Com meus numerosos carros de guerra, conquistei os montes mais elevados, sim, os picos mais remotos do Líbano. Cortei seus cedros mais altos e seus melhores ciprestes. Cheguei a suas maiores alturas e explorei suas florestas mais densas.
25 I haue digged and drunke the waters, and with the plant of my feete haue I dryed all the riuers closed in.
25 Cavei poços em muitas terras estrangeiras e me refresquei com sua água. Com a sola de meu pé, sequei todos os rios do Egito!’.
26 Hast thou not heard howe I haue of olde time made it, and haue formed it long ago? and should I now bring it, that it should be destroyed, and layde on ruinous heapes, as cities defensed?
26 “Mas você não sabe? Eu decidi tudo isso há muito tempo. Planejei essas coisas no passado distante, e agora as realizo. Planejei que você transformaria cidades fortificadas em montes de escombros.
27 Whose inhabitants haue small power, and are afrayd and confounded: they are like the grasse of the field and greene herbe, or grasse on the house tops, or corne blassed afore it be growen.
27 Por isso, seus habitantes perdem as forças e ficam assustados e envergonhados. São frágeis como a relva, indefesos como brotos verdes e tenros. São como capim que surge no telhado, queimado
28 But I know thy dwelling, and thy going out, and thy comming in, and thy fury against me.
28 “Mas eu o conheço bem; sei onde está e sei de suas idas e vindas; sei como se enfureceu contra mim.
29 Because thou ragest against me, and thy tumult is come vnto mine eares, therefore will I put mine hooke in thy nostrels, and my bridle in thy lips, and wil bring thee backe againe the same way thou camest.
29 E, por causa de sua raiva contra mim e de sua arrogância, que eu mesmo ouvi, porei minha argola em seu nariz e meu freio em sua boca. Eu o farei voltar pelo mesmo caminho por onde veio”.
30 And this shalbe a signe vnto thee, O Hezekiah, Thou shalt eate this yeere such as groweth of it selfe: and the second yeere, such things as growe without sowing: and in the third yeere, sowe ye and reape, and plant vineyards, and eate the fruite thereof.
30 Então Isaías disse a Ezequias: “Esta é a prova de que minhas palavras são verdadeiras: “Neste ano vocês comerão somente o que crescer por si, e no ano seguinte, o que brotar disso. Mas, no terceiro ano, semeiem e colham, cuidem de suas videiras e comam de seus frutos.
31 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Iudah, shall againe take roote downward and beare fruite vpward.
31 Vocês que restarem em Judá, os que escaparem da destruição, lançarão raízes em seu próprio solo, crescerão e darão frutos.
32 For out of Ierusalem shall goe a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeale of the Lord of hostes shall doe this.
32 Pois um remanescente de meu povo sairá de Jerusalém, um grupo de sobreviventes partirá do monte Sião. O zelo do S fará que isso aconteça!
33 Therefore thus sayth the Lord, concerning the King of Asshur, He shall not enter into this citie, nor shoote an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a mount against it.
33 “E assim diz o S enhor a respeito do rei da Assíria: “Seus exércitos não entrarão em Jerusalém, nem dispararão contra ela uma só flecha. Não marcharão com escudos fora de seus portões, nem construirão rampas de terra contra seus muros.
34 By the same way that he came, he shall returne, and not come into this citie, saith the Lord.
34 O rei voltará à terra dele pelo mesmo caminho por onde veio. Não entrará na cidade diz o S
35 For I will defend this citie to saue it, for mine owne sake, and for my seruant Dauids sake.
35 Por minha própria honra e por causa de meu servo Davi, defenderei esta cidade e a libertarei”.
36 Then the Angel of the Lord went out, and smote in the campe of Asshur an hundreth, fourescore, and fiue thousand: so when they arose early in the morning, beholde, they were all dead corpses.
36 Naquela noite, o anjo do S enhor foi ao acampamento assírio e matou 185 mil soldados assírios. Quando os sobreviventes acordaram na manhã seguinte, encontraram cadáveres por toda parte.
37 So Saneherib king of Asshur departed, and went away and returned and dwelt at Nineueh.
37 Então Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, levantou acampamento e partiu para sua terra. Voltou para Nínive e ali ficou.
38 And as he was in the temple worshipping of Nisroch his god, Adramelech and Sharezer his sonnes slewe him with the sword, and they escaped into the land of Ararat: and Esarhaddon his sonne reigned in his steade.
38 Certo dia, enquanto ele adorava no templo de seu deus Nisroque, seus filhos Adrameleque e Sarezer o mataram à espada. Fugiram para a terra de Arate, e outro filho, Esar-Hadom, se tornou seu sucessor na Assíria.
