1 Let as many seruaunts as are vnder the yoke, count their masters worthie of all honour, that the Name of God, and his doctrine be not euill spoken of.
1 Todos os que estão sob o jugo da escravidão devem considerar seus senhores como dignos de todo o respeito, para que o nome de Deus e o nosso ensino não sejam blasfemados.
2 And they which haue beleeuing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren, but rather doe seruice, because they are faithfull, and beloued, and partakers of the benefite. These things teach and exhort.
2 Os que têm senhores crentes não devem ter por eles menos respeito, pelo fato de serem irmãos; pelo contrário, devem servi-los ainda melhor, porque os que se beneficiam do seu serviço são fiéis e amados. Ensine e recomende essas coisas.
3 If any man teach otherwise, and consenteth not to the wholesome wordes of our Lord Iesus Christ, and to the doctrine, which is according to godlinesse,
3 Se alguém ensina falsas doutrinas e não concorda com a sã doutrina de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e com o ensino que é segundo a piedade,
4 He is puft vp and knoweth nothing, but doteth about questions and strife of words, whereof commeth enuie, strife, railings, euill surmisings,
4 é orgulhoso e nada entende. Esse tal mostra um interesse doentio por controvérsias e contendas acerca de palavras, que resultam em inveja, brigas, difamações, suspeitas malignas
5 Frowarde disputations of men of corrupt mindes and destitute of ye trueth, which thinke that gaine is godlines: from such separate thy selfe.
5 e atritos constantes entre pessoas que têm a mente corrompida e que são privados da verdade, os quais pensam que a piedade é fonte de lucro.
6 But godlinesse is great gaine, if a man be content with that he hath.
6 De fato, a piedade com contentamento é grande fonte de lucro,
7 For we brought nothing into the world, and it is certaine, that we can carie nothing out.
7 pois nada trouxemos para este mundo e dele nada podemos levar;
8 Therefore when wee haue foode and raiment, let vs therewith be content.
8 por isso, tendo o que comer e com que vestir-nos, estejamos com isso satisfeitos.
9 For they that will be rich, fall into tentation and snares, and into many foolish and noysome lustes, which drowne men in perdition and destruction.
9 Os que querem ficar ricos caem em tentação, em armadilhas e em muitos desejos descontrolados e nocivos, que levam os homens a mergulharem na ruína e na destruição,
10 For the desire of money is the roote of all euill, which while some lusted after, they erred from the faith, and pearced themselues through with many sorowes.
10 pois o amor ao dinheiro é raiz de todos os males. Algumas pessoas, por cobiçarem o dinheiro, desviaram-se da fé e se atormentaram a si mesmas com muitos sofrimentos.
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousnesse, godlines, faith, loue, patience, and meekenes.
11 Você, porém, homem de Deus, fuja de tudo isso e busque a justiça, a piedade, a fé, o amor, a perseverança e a mansidão.
12 Fight the good fight of faith: lay holde of eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
12 Combata o bom combate da fé. Tome posse da vida eterna, para a qual você foi chamado e fez a boa confissão na presença de muitas testemunhas.
13 I charge thee in the sight of God, who quickeneth all thinges, and before Iesus Christ, which vnder Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession,
13 Diante de Deus, que a tudo dá vida, e de Cristo Jesus, que diante de Pôncio Pilatos fez a boa confissão, eu lhe recomendo:
14 That thou keepe this commandement without spot, and vnrebukeable, vntill the appearing of our Lord Iesus Christ,
14 Guarde este mandamento imaculado, irrepreensível, até a manifestação de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo,
15 Which in due time hee shall shewe, that is blessed and Prince onely, the King of Kings and Lord of Lordes,
15 a qual Deus fará se cumprir no seu devido tempo. Ele é o bendito e único Soberano, o Rei dos reis e Senhor dos senhores,
16 Who onely hath immortalitie, and dwelleth in the light that none can attaine vnto, whom neuer man sawe, neither can see, vnto whome bee honour and power euerlasting, Amen.
16 o único que é imortal e habita em luz inacessível, a quem ninguém viu nem pode ver. A ele sejam honra e poder para sempre. Amém.
17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high minded, and that they trust not in vncertaine riches, but in the liuing God, (which giueth vs aboundantly, all things to enioy)
17 Ordene aos que são ricos no presente mundo que não sejam arrogantes, nem ponham sua esperança na incerteza da riqueza, mas em Deus, que de tudo nos provê ricamente, para a nossa satisfação.
18 That they doe good, and be riche in good woorkes, and readie to distribute, and comunicate,
18 Ordene-lhes que pratiquem o bem, sejam ricos em boas obras, generosos e prontos para repartir.
19 Laying vp in store for themselues a good foundation against the time to come, that they may obteine eternall life.
19 Dessa forma, eles acumularão um tesouro para si mesmos, um firme fundamento para a era que há de vir, e assim alcançarão a verdadeira vida.
20 O Timotheus, keepe that which is committed vnto thee, and auoide prophane and vaine babblings, and oppositios of science falsely so called,
20 Timóteo, guarde o que lhe foi confiado. Evite as conversas inúteis e profanas e as idéias contraditórias do que é falsamente chamado conhecimento;
21 Which while some professe, they haue erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee, Amen. ‘The first Epistle to Timotheus, written from Laodicea, which is the chiefest citie of Phrygia Pacaciana.’
