1 Let as many seruaunts as are vnder the yoke, count their masters worthie of all honour, that the Name of God, and his doctrine be not euill spoken of.
1 Todos os servos que estão debaixo de jugo considerem dignos de toda honra o próprio senhor, para que o nome de Deus e a doutrina não sejam difamados.
2 And they which haue beleeuing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren, but rather doe seruice, because they are faithfull, and beloued, and partakers of the benefite. These things teach and exhort.
2 Também os que têm senhor crente não o tratem com desrespeito, porque é irmão; pelo contrário, trabalhem ainda mais, pois ele, que partilha do seu bom serviço, é crente e amado. Ensine e recomende estas coisas.
3 If any man teach otherwise, and consenteth not to the wholesome wordes of our Lord Iesus Christ, and to the doctrine, which is according to godlinesse,
3 Se alguém ensina outra doutrina e não concorda com as sãs palavras de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e com o ensino segundo a piedade,
4 He is puft vp and knoweth nothing, but doteth about questions and strife of words, whereof commeth enuie, strife, railings, euill surmisings,
4 esse é orgulhoso e não entende nada, mas tem um desejo doentio por discussões e brigas a respeito de palavras. É daí que nascem a inveja, a provocação, as difamações, as suspeitas malignas
5 Frowarde disputations of men of corrupt mindes and destitute of ye trueth, which thinke that gaine is godlines: from such separate thy selfe.
5 e as polêmicas sem fim da parte de pessoas cuja mente é pervertida e que estão privadas da verdade, supondo que a piedade é fonte de lucro.
6 But godlinesse is great gaine, if a man be content with that he hath.
6 De fato, grande fonte de lucro é a piedade com o contentamento.
7 For we brought nothing into the world, and it is certaine, that we can carie nothing out.
7 Porque nada trouxemos para o mundo, nem coisa alguma podemos levar dele.
8 Therefore when wee haue foode and raiment, let vs therewith be content.
8 Tendo sustento e com que nos vestir, estejamos contentes.
9 For they that will be rich, fall into tentation and snares, and into many foolish and noysome lustes, which drowne men in perdition and destruction.
9 Mas os que querem ficar ricos caem em tentação, em armadilhas e em muitos desejos insensatos e nocivos, que levam as pessoas a se afundar na ruína e na perdição.
10 For the desire of money is the roote of all euill, which while some lusted after, they erred from the faith, and pearced themselues through with many sorowes.
10 Porque o amor ao dinheiro é a raiz de todos os males; e alguns, nessa cobiça, se desviaram da fé e atormentaram a si mesmos com muitas dores.
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousnesse, godlines, faith, loue, patience, and meekenes.
11 Mas você, homem de Deus, fuja de tudo isso. Siga a justiça, a piedade, a fé, o amor, a perseverança, a mansidão.
12 Fight the good fight of faith: lay holde of eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
12 Combata o bom combate da fé. Tome posse da vida eterna, para a qual você também foi chamado e da qual fez a boa confissão diante de muitas testemunhas.
13 I charge thee in the sight of God, who quickeneth all thinges, and before Iesus Christ, which vnder Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession,
13 Diante de Deus, que preserva a vida de todas as coisas, e diante de Cristo Jesus, que, na presença de Pôncio Pilatos, fez a boa confissão, eu exorto você
14 That thou keepe this commandement without spot, and vnrebukeable, vntill the appearing of our Lord Iesus Christ,
14 a guardar este mandato imaculado, irrepreensível, até a manifestação de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo,
15 Which in due time hee shall shewe, that is blessed and Prince onely, the King of Kings and Lord of Lordes,
15 a qual, no tempo certo, há de ser revelada pelo bendito e único Soberano, o Rei dos reis e Senhor dos senhores,
16 Who onely hath immortalitie, and dwelleth in the light that none can attaine vnto, whom neuer man sawe, neither can see, vnto whome bee honour and power euerlasting, Amen.
16 o único que possui imortalidade, que habita em luz inacessível, a quem ninguém jamais viu, nem é capaz de ver. A ele honra e poder eterno. Amém!
17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high minded, and that they trust not in vncertaine riches, but in the liuing God, (which giueth vs aboundantly, all things to enioy)
17 Exorte os ricos deste mundo a que não sejam orgulhosos, nem depositem a sua esperança na instabilidade da riqueza, mas em Deus, que tudo nos proporciona ricamente para o nosso prazer.
18 That they doe good, and be riche in good woorkes, and readie to distribute, and comunicate,
18 Que eles façam o bem, sejam ricos em boas obras, generosos em dar e prontos a repartir;
19 Laying vp in store for themselues a good foundation against the time to come, that they may obteine eternall life.
19 ajuntando para si mesmos um tesouro que é sólido fundamento para o futuro, a fim de tomarem posse da verdadeira vida.
20 O Timotheus, keepe that which is committed vnto thee, and auoide prophane and vaine babblings, and oppositios of science falsely so called,
20 E você, ó Timóteo, guarde o que lhe foi confiado, evitando os falatórios inúteis e profanos e as contradições daquilo que falsamente chamam de “conhecimento”,
21 Which while some professe, they haue erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee, Amen. ‘The first Epistle to Timotheus, written from Laodicea, which is the chiefest citie of Phrygia Pacaciana.’
