1 Dearely beloued, beleeue not euery spirit, but trie the spirits whether they are of God: for many false prophets are gone out into this worlde.
1 Caríssimos, não deis fé a qualquer espírito, mas examinai se os espíritos são de Deus, porque muitos falsos profetas se levantaram no mundo.
2 Hereby shall ye know the Spirit of God, Euery spirit which confesseth that Iesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God.
2 Nisto se reconhece o Espírito de Deus: todo espírito que proclama que Jesus Cristo se encarnou é de Deus;
3 And euery spirit that confesseth not that Iesus Christ is come in the flesh, is not of God: but this is the spirit of Antichrist, of whome ye haue heard, how that he should come, and nowe already he is in this world.
3 todo espírito que não proclama Jesus esse não é de Deus, mas é o espírito do Anticristo de cuja vinda tendes ouvido, e já está agora no mundo.
4 Litle children, ye are of God, and haue ouercome them: for greater is he that is in you, then he that is in this world.
4 Vós, filhinhos, sois de Deus, e os vencestes, porque o que está em vós é maior do que aquele que está no mundo.
5 They are of this worlde, therefore speake they of this world, and this world heareth them.
5 Eles são do mundo. É por isto que falam segundo o mundo, e o mundo os ouve.
6 We are of God, he that knoweth God, heareth vs: he that is not of God, heareth vs not. Heereby knowe wee the spirit of trueth, and the spirit of errour.
6 Nós, porém, somos de Deus. Quem conhece a Deus, ouve-nos; quem não é de Deus, não nos ouve. É nisto que conhecemos o Espírito da Verdade e o espírito do erro.
7 Beloued, let vs loue one another: for loue commeth of God, and euery one that loueth, is borne of God, and knoweth God.
7 Caríssimos, amemo-nos uns aos outros, porque o amor vem de Deus, e todo o que ama é nascido de Deus e conhece a Deus.
8 Hee that loueth not, knoweth not God: for God is loue.
8 Aquele que não ama não conhece a Deus, porque Deus é amor.
9 Herein was that loue of God made manifest amongst vs, because God sent that his onely begotten sonne into this world, that we might liue through him.
9 Nisto se manifestou o amor de Deus para conosco: em nos ter enviado ao mundo o seu Filho único, para que vivamos por ele.
10 Herein is that loue, not that we loued God, but that he loued vs, and sent his Sonne to be a reconciliation for our sinnes.
10 Nisto consiste o amor: não em termos nós amado a Deus, mas em ter-nos ele amado, e enviado o seu Filho para expiar os nossos pecados.
11 Beloued, if God so loued vs, we ought also to loue one another.
11 Caríssimos, se Deus assim nos amou, também nós nos devemos amar uns aos outros.
12 No man hath seene God at any time. If we loue one another, God dwelleth in vs, and his loue is perfect in vs.
12 Ninguém jamais viu a Deus. Se nos amarmos mutuamente, Deus permanece em nós e o seu amor em nós é perfeito.
13 Hereby know we, that we dwell in him, and he in vs: because he hath giuen vs of his Spirit.
13 Nisto é que conhecemos que estamos nele e ele em nós, por ele nos ter dado o seu Espírito.
14 And we haue seene, and doe testifie, that the Father sent that Sonne to be ye Sauiour of the world.
14 E nós vimos e testemunhamos que o Pai enviou seu Filho como Salvador do mundo.
15 Whosoeuer confesseth that Iesus is the Sone of God, in him dwelleth God, and he in God.
15 Todo aquele que proclama que Jesus é o Filho de Deus, Deus permanece nele e ele em Deus.
16 And we haue knowen, and beleeued ye loue that God hath in vs. God is loue, and he that dwelleth in loue, dwelleth in God, and God in him.
16 Nós conhecemos e cremos no amor que Deus tem para conosco. Deus é amor, e quem permanece no amor permanece em Deus e Deus nele.
17 Herein is that loue perfect in vs, that we should haue boldnes in the day of iudgement: for as he is, euen so are we in this world.
17 Nisto é perfeito em nós o amor: que tenhamos confiança no dia do julgamento, pois, como ele é, assim também nós o somos neste mundo.
18 There is no feare in loue, but perfect loue casteth out feare: for feare hath painefulnesse: and he that feareth, is not perfect in loue.
18 No amor não há temor. Antes, o perfeito amor lança fora o temor, porque o temor envolve castigo, e quem teme não é perfeito no amor.
19 We loue him, because he loued vs first.
19 Mas amamos, porque Deus nos amou primeiro.
20 If any man say, I loue God, and hate his brother, he is a liar: for how can he that loueth not his brother whom he hath seene, loue God whom he hath not seene?
20 Se alguém disser: Amo a Deus, mas odeia seu irmão, é mentiroso. Porque aquele que não ama seu irmão, a quem vê, é incapaz de amar a Deus, a quem não vê.
21 And this commandement haue we of him, that he that loueth God, should loue his brother also.
21 Temos de Deus este mandamento: o que amar a Deus, ame também a seu irmão.
