1 THE presbyter unto Gaios my beloved, whom I love in truth.
1 Do presbítero ao querido Gaio, a quem amo de verdade.
2 Our beloved, in all things I pray for thee, that thou mayest prosper and be healthful, even as thy soul prospereth.
2 Meu querido amigo, tenho pedido a Deus que você vá bem em tudo e que esteja com boa saúde, assim como está bem espiritualmente.
3 For I have rejoiced greatly when the brethren have come, and have testified concerning thy integrity, even as in the truth thou walkest.
3 Fiquei muito contente quando alguns irmãos chegaram e me contaram como você é fiel à verdade e como sempre vive na verdade.
4 And greater joy than this I have not (than) when I hear that my sons walk in the truth.
4 Nada me alegra mais do que ouvir que os meus filhos vivem de acordo com a verdade.
5 Our beloved, in faithfulness thou performest what thou doest unto the brethren, and especially to those who are strangers,
5 Meu querido amigo, você tem sido fiel naquilo que faz pelos irmãos, mesmo quando são estrangeiros.
6 who have testified of thy charity, before all the church, to whom thou hast done well according to that which is worthy of Aloha.
6 Eles têm falado à igreja daqui a respeito do amor de você. Por favor, ajude essa gente a continuar a sua viagem de um modo que agrade a Deus.
7 For after his name they went forth, taking nothing from the Gentiles.
7 Pois eles começaram a sua viagem a serviço de Cristo sem aceitar nenhum auxílio dos pagãos.
8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be helpers of the truth.
8 Portanto, nós, os cristãos, precisamos ajudar essas pessoas, pois assim poderemos tomar parte no seu trabalho de anunciar a verdade.
9 I would have written to the church; but he who loveth to be foremost of you, Diotrapas, receiveth us not.
9 Eu escrevi uma pequena carta à igreja , mas Diótrefes, que deseja ser o líder, não quer dar atenção ao que eu disse.
10 On account of this, if I come, I will remember the works which he doeth, who words of evil maketh concerning us; and these not satisfying him, he hath not received the brethren, and those who receive he forbiddeth, and also expelleth from the church.
10 Portanto, quando eu chegar aí, vou chamar a atenção dele a respeito de tudo o que ele tem feito: as coisas horríveis que diz de nós e as mentiras que conta. Porém ele não fica satisfeito só em fazer isso; pois, quando os irmãos chegam aí, ele não os recebe. E, se alguma pessoa quer recebê-los, ele não deixa e até a expulsa da igreja!
11 Our beloved, be not imitative of the evil, but of the good. He who doeth good is of Aloha, and he who doeth evil hath not seen Aloha.
11 Gaio, meu querido amigo, imite o que é bom e não o que é mau. Quem faz o bem é de Deus, e quem faz o mal nunca viu Deus.
12 Concerning Demetrios is a testimony from every man, and from the church, and from the truth itself. But we also bear witness, and you know that our testimony is true.
12 Todos falam bem de Demétrio, e a própria verdade fala bem dele. Nós também falamos bem a respeito dele, e você sabe que o que dizemos é verdade.
13 I have many things which I would write to thee, but I will not with ink and reed write to thee.
13 Tenho ainda muitas coisas para contar a você, mas não quero fazer isso por carta.
14 But I hope that soon I shall see thee, and mouth to mouth we will speak. Peace be with thee. The friends ask thy peace. Ask the peace of the friends each by his name.
14 Espero vê-lo em breve, e então conversaremos pessoalmente.
