1 RESPECTING the sacrifices of idols, we know that in all of us there is knowledge; and knowledge inflateth, but love buildeth up.
1 Quanto à pergunta sobre a comida sacrificada a ídolos, sabemos que todos temos conhecimento a esse respeito. Contudo, o conhecimento traz orgulho, enquanto o amor fortalece.
2 But if a man think that he knows any thing, he knows nothing yet as it behoves him to know:
2 Se alguém pensa que sabe tudo sobre algo, ainda não aprendeu como deveria.
3 but if a man love Aloha, this (one) is acknowledged of him.
3 Mas quem ama a Deus é conhecido por ele.
4 Concerning the meat of the sacrifices of idols, then, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.
4 Então, o que dizer quanto ao alimento oferecido a ídolos? Bem, todos nós sabemos que, na verdade, o ídolo nada vale neste mundo, e que há somente um Deus.
5 For there are also who are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, as that there are gods many and lords many:
5 Sim, é fato que existem os que são chamados de deuses, por assim dizer, nos céus e na terra, e há pessoas que adoram muitos deuses e muitos senhores.
6 but to us our One is Aloha the Father, of whom are all, and we in him; and one Lord Jeshu Meshiha, by whom are all, and we by him.
6 Para nós, porém, Há somente um Deus, o Pai, por meio de quem todas as coisas foram criadas e para quem vivemos. E há somente um Senhor, Jesus Cristo, por meio de quem todas as coisas foram criadas e por meio de quem recebemos vida.
7 But not in every man is this knowledge; for there are some who in their conscience until now (believe) that, with respect to idols, as of that which hath been sacrificed we eat. And because of weakness their conscience is defiled.
7 No entanto, nem todos sabem disso. Alguns estão acostumados a pensar que os ídolos são de verdade, de modo que, ao comer alimentos oferecidos a eles, imaginam que estão adorando deuses de verdade, e sua consciência fraca é contaminada.
8 But meat doth not bring us nigh to Aloha. For if we eat, we excel not; nor if we eat not, are we deficient.
8 Não obtemos a aprovação de Deus pelo que comemos. Não perdemos nada se não comemos, e se comemos, nada ganhamos.
9 But beware that this your power become not a stumbling-block to the infirm ones.
9 Contudo, tenham cuidado para que sua liberdade não leve outros de consciência mais fraca a tropeçarem.
10 For if a man shall see thee in whom is knowledge reclining in the house of idols, will not his conscience, because he is weak, be confirmed to eat that which is sacrificed,
10 Pois, se alguém vir você, que diz ter um conhecimento superior, comer no templo de um ídolo, acaso não será induzido a contaminar a própria consciência ao ingerir alimentos oferecidos a ídolos?
11 and he will perish through thy knowledge? he who is weak, and on account of whom the Meshiha died.
11 Assim, por causa do seu conhecimento superior, um irmão fraco pelo qual Cristo morreu acaba se perdendo.
12 And if so you transgress against your brethren, and wound their weak consciences, do you not transgress against the Meshiha?
12 E quando vocês pecam contra outros irmãos, incentivando-os a fazer algo que eles consideram errado, pecam contra Cristo.
13 On this account, if meat cause my brother to stumble, I will never (more) eat flesh, that I may not cause my brother to stumble.
13 Portanto, se aquilo que eu como faz um irmão pecar, nunca mais comerei carne, pois não quero fazer meu irmão tropeçar.
