1 Forsooth in the valley of Mamre the Lord appeared to Abraham, (as he was) sitting in the door of his tabernacle, in that heat of the day. (And sometime later, by the terebinths of Mamre, the Lord appeared to Abraham, when he was sitting by the door of his tent, in the heat of the day.)
1 O Senhor apareceu a Abraão nos carvalhais de Manre, quando ele estava assentado à entrada da tenda, no maior calor do dia.
2 And when Abraham had raised up his eyes, three men appeared to him, and stood nigh [to] him. And when he had seen them, he ran from the door of his tabernacle into the meeting of them, and he worshipped on [the] earth, (or And when he had seen them, he ran from the door of his tent to meet them, and he bowed low to the ground),
2 Abraão levantou os olhos, olhou, e eis que três homens estavam em pé diante dele. Ao vê-los, Abraão correu da porta da tenda ao encontro deles, prostrou-se em terra
3 and said, Lord (or My lords), if I have found grace in thine eyes, pass thou not (by) thy servant,
3 e disse: — Senhor meu, se eu puder obter favor diante de seus olhos, peço que não passe adiante sem ficar um pouco com este seu servo.
4 but I shall bring (thee) a little water, and your feet (can) be washed, and (so) rest ye (yourselves) under the tree;
4 Vou pedir que se traga um pouco de água, para que lavem os pés e descansem debaixo desta árvore.
5 and I shall set (before you) a morsel of bread, and your heart (shall) be comforted; (and) afterward ye shall pass [forth]; for therefore (be) ye bowed (aside) to your servant. Which said (or And they said to him), Do thou as thou hast spoken.
5 Trarei um pouco de comida, para que refaçam as forças, visto que chegaram até este servo de vocês; depois, poderão seguir adiante. Responderam: — Faça como você disse.
6 (And) Abraham hasted into the tabernacle, to Sarah, and said to her, Haste thou, mix (up) three half bushels of clean flour; and make thou loaves baken under ashes.
6 Abraão correu para a tenda de Sara e lhe disse: — Amasse depressa três medidas da melhor farinha e faça pão.
7 Forsooth (then) he ran to the drove of beasts, and took thereof a calf most tender and best, and gave (it) to a servant, which hasted, and seethed the calf (or and boiled the calf);
7 Abraão, por sua vez, correu ao gado, pegou um novilho tenro e bom, e o entregou a um empregado, que se apressou em prepará-lo.
8 and (then) he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had sodden, and set (it) before them; forsooth Abraham stood beside them under the tree. And when they had eaten,
8 Pegou também coalhada e leite e o novilho que tinha mandado preparar e pôs tudo diante deles; e permaneceu em pé junto a eles debaixo da árvore; e eles comeram.
9 they said to him, Where is Sarah thy wife? He answered, Lo! she is in the tabernacle, (or Behold! she is in the tent).
9 Então lhe perguntaram: — Onde está Sara, a sua mulher? Ele respondeu: — Está aí na tenda.
10 To whom the Lord said, I shall turn again, and I shall come to thee in this time, if I live; and Sarah, thy wife, shall have a son. When this was heard, Sarah laughed behind the door of the tabernacle. (And the Lord said to him, I shall return, and I shall come back to thee at this same time next year, as I live; and Sarah, thy wife, shall have a son. And when she heard this, Sarah laughed behind the door of the tent.)
10 Um deles disse: — Certamente voltarei a você, daqui a um ano; e Sara, a sua mulher, dará à luz um filho. Sara estava escutando, à porta da tenda, atrás de Abraão.
11 Forsooth both were old, and of great age, and woman’s terms ceased to be made to Sarah (or and a woman’s terms had ceased to be made with Sarah).
11 Abraão e Sara já eram velhos, avançados em idade; e a Sara já lhe havia cessado o costume das mulheres.
12 And (so) she laughed, saying privily, After that I (have) waxed eld, and my lord is eld, shall I give diligence to lust?
12 Por isso Sara riu em seu íntimo, dizendo consigo mesma: — Depois de velha, e velho também o meu senhor, terei ainda prazer?
13 Forsooth the Lord said to Abraham, Why laughed Sarah, thy wife, saying, Whether I an eld woman shall bear a child verily? (And the Lord said to Abraham, Why did thy wife Sarah laugh, and say, Shall I, an old woman, truly bear a child?)
13 Então o Senhor perguntou a Abraão: — Por que Sara riu, dizendo: “Será verdade que darei ainda à luz, sendo velha?”
14 whether anything is hard to God? By the promise I shall turn again to thee in this same time, if I live; and Sarah shall have a son. (is there anything too hard for God to do? By my word, I shall return to thee at this same time, as I live; and Sarah shall have a son.)
14 Por acaso, existe algo demasiadamente difícil para o Senhor ? Daqui a um ano, neste mesmo tempo, voltarei a você, e Sara terá um filho.
15 (And) Sarah was afeared for dread, and denied (it), saying, I laughed not. Forsooth the Lord said, It is not so, but thou laughedest.
15 Então Sara teve medo e negou, dizendo: — Eu não ri. Ele, porém, disse: — Não é verdade; é certo que você riu.
16 Therefore when the men had risen (up) from thence, they (ad)dressed the eyes against Sodom (or they directed their eyes toward Sodom); and Abraham went together (with them), leading them forth.
16 Quando aqueles homens se levantaram dali, olharam para Sodoma; e Abraão ia com eles, para os encaminhar.
17 And the Lord said, Whether I may cover from Abraham what things I shall do, (And the Lord said to himself, Can I hide from Abraham what things I am about to do?)
17 O Senhor disse: — Será que eu devo esconder de Abraão o que estou para fazer,
18 since he shall be into a great folk and most strong, and all nations of [the] earth shall be blessed in him? (For he shall become a great and a most strong nation, and all the nations of the earth shall pray to be blessed as he is blessed or and through him I shall bless all the nations of the earth.)
18 visto que Abraão certamente virá a ser uma grande e poderosa nação, e nele serão benditas todas as nações da terra?
19 For I know that Abraham shall command his children, and his house(hold) after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, and that they do rightfulness and doom, that the Lord bring for Abraham all things which he spake to Abraham, (or and that they do what is right and just, so that I shall bring to Abraham all the things that I have promised him).
19 Porque eu o escolhi para que ordene aos seus filhos e a sua casa depois dele, a fim de que guardem o caminho do Senhor e pratiquem a justiça e o juízo, para que o Senhor faça vir sobre Abraão o que lhe prometeu.
20 And so the Lord said, The cry of men of Sodom and of men of Gomorrah is multiplied, and their sin is egregious greatly; (And so the Lord said to him, There is a great outcry against the people of Sodom and the people of Gomorrah, and their sin is highly egregious;)
20 Então o Senhor disse: — O clamor contra Sodoma e Gomorra tem aumentado, e o seu pecado é gravíssimo.
21 I shall come down, and see whether they have [ful] filled in work the cry that came to me, that I know whether it is not so. (and so I shall go down there, and see whether their deeds have warranted the outcry that came to me, and so that I know if it is so, or not.)
21 Descerei e verei se, de fato, o que têm praticado corresponde a esse clamor que veio até mim. E, se este não for o caso, eu ficarei sabendo.
22 And they turned them[selves] from thence, and went to Sodom. Abraham soothly stood yet before the Lord, (And then two of the men went forth from there, and went down to Sodom. But Abraham stood yet before the Lord,)
22 Assim, aqueles homens partiram dali e foram para Sodoma; mas Abraão ainda permaneceu na presença do Senhor .
23 and nighed, and said, Whether thou shalt lose a just man with the wicked? (and he came over, and said to him, Shalt thou destroy the righteous along with the wicked?)
23 E, aproximando-se, Abraão perguntou: — Será que vais destruir o justo com o ímpio?
24 if fifty just men be in the city, shall they perish together, and shalt thou not spare that place for fifty just men, if they be therein? (what if fifty righteous people be in the city, shall they perish along with the others, and shalt thou not spare that place for fifty righteous people, if they be there?)
24 Se houver, por acaso, cinquenta justos na cidade, ainda assim destruirás e não pouparás o lugar por amor dos cinquenta justos que nela se encontram?
25 Far be it from thee that thou do this thing, and slay the just with the wicked, and that a just man be made as a wicked man; this is not thine that deemest all [the] earth; thou shalt not make this doom. (Far be it from thee that thou do this thing, and kill the righteous along with the wicked, and that the righteous be made like the wicked; this is not thee who judgest all the earth; no, thou shalt not make such a judgement.)
25 Longe de ti fazeres tal coisa: matar o justo com o ímpio, como se o justo fosse igual ao ímpio. Longe de ti! Será que o Juiz de toda a terra não faria justiça?
26 And the Lord said to him, If I shall find in Sodom fifty just men in the midst of the city, I shall forgive to all the place for them. (And the Lord said to him, If I shall find in Sodom fifty righteous people in the midst of the city, I shall forgive the whole place for their sake.)
26 Então o Senhor disse: — Se eu encontrar cinquenta justos dentro da cidade de Sodoma, pouparei a cidade toda por amor a eles.
27 Abraham answered and said, For I began once (or For once I began), I shall speak to my Lord, since I am (but) dust and ashes;
27 Abraão continuou: — Eis que me atrevi a falar ao Senhor, eu que sou pó e cinza.
28 what if less than fifty just men by five be, shalt thou do away all the city for five and forty? And the Lord said, I shall not do away, if I shall find five and forty there. (what if there be five less than fifty righteous people there, shalt thou do away all the city for forty-five? And the Lord said, I shall not do them all away, if I shall find forty-five righteous people there.)
28 Caso faltarem cinco para cinquenta justos, destruirás por isso toda a cidade? Deus respondeu: — Não a destruirei se eu encontrar ali quarenta e cinco.
29 And again Abraham said to him, But if forty be there, what shalt thou do? The Lord said, I shall not smite for forty (or I shall not strike them all down, for the sake of forty righteous people).
29 Então Abraão disse: — E se, por acaso, houver ali apenas quarenta? Deus respondeu: — Não o farei por amor aos quarenta.
30 Abraham said, Lord, I beseech, take thou (it) not into indignation, if I speak (again); what if thirty be found there? The Lord answered, I shall not do (it), if I shall find thirty there.
30 Abraão insistiu: — Não se ire o Senhor, se eu continuar a falar. E se houver ali apenas trinta? O — Não o farei se eu encontrar ali trinta.
31 Abraham said, For I began once, I shall speak to my Lord; what if twenty be found there? The Lord said, I shall not slay for twenty. (Abraham said, For once I began, I shall speak again to my Lord; what if twenty be found there? The Lord said, I shall not slay them all, for the sake of twenty.)
31 Abraão continuou: — Eis que me atrevi a falar ao Senhor. E se, por acaso, houver ali apenas vinte? O — Não a destruirei por amor aos vinte.
32 Abraham said, Lord, I beseech, be thou not wroth, if I speak yet once (more); what if ten be found there? The Lord said, I shall not do away for ten. (And Abraham said, Lord, I beseech thee, be thou not angry, if I speak yet once more; what if ten be found there? And the Lord said, I shall not do them all away, if I shall find ten righteous people there.)
32 Finalmente Abraão disse: — Não se ire o Senhor, se lhe falo somente mais esta vez. E se, por acaso, houver ali apenas dez? O — Não a destruirei por amor aos dez.
33 The Lord went forth, after that he [had] ceased to speak to Abraham, and Abraham turned again into his place. (And then the Lord went forth, after that he had ceased to speak with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his home.)
33 Quando acabou de falar com Abraão, o Senhor se retirou, e Abraão voltou para onde estava antes.
