1 See ye what manner charity the Father gave to us (or See what kind of love the Father gave us), that we be named the sons of God, and be his sons. For this thing the world knew not us, for it knew not him.
1 Vejam como é grande o amor do Pai por nós, pois ele nos chama de filhos, o que de fato somos! Mas quem pertence a este mundo não reconhece que somos filhos de Deus, porque não o conhece.
2 Most dear brethren(or Most dear \+em brothers\+em*), now we be the sons of God, and yet it appeared not, what we shall be. We know, that when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
2 Amados, já somos filhos de Deus, mas ele ainda não nos mostrou o que seremos quando Cristo vier. Sabemos, porém, que seremos semelhantes a ele, pois o veremos como ele realmente é.
3 And each man that hath this hope in him, maketh himself holy, as he is holy.
3 E todos que têm essa esperança se manterão puros, como ele é puro.
4 Each man that doeth sin, doeth also wickedness, and sin is wickedness.
4 Quem vive no pecado transgride a lei, pois todo pecado é contrário à lei.
5 And ye know, that he appeared to do away sins, and sin is not in him.
5 E vocês sabem que ele veio para tirar nossos pecados, e nele não há pecado.
6 Each man that dwelleth in him, sinneth not; and each that sinneth, seeth not him, neither knew him. (Each one who remaineth in him, or who liveth in him, sinneth not; and each one who sinneth, seeth not him, nor knoweth him.)
6 Quem permanece nele não continua a pecar. Mas quem continua a pecar não o conhece e não entende quem ele é.
7 Little sons, (let) no man deceive you; he that doeth rightwiseness, is just, as also he is just.
7 Filhinhos, não deixem que ninguém os engane a este respeito: quando uma pessoa faz o que é justo, mostra que é justa, como ele é justo.
8 He that doeth sin, is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. In this thing the Son of God appeared, that he undo the works of the devil. (He who doeth sin, is of the Devil; for the Devil sinneth from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this, yea, that he destroy the works of the Devil.)
8 Mas, quando continua a pecar, mostra que pertence ao diabo, pois o diabo peca desde o início. Por isso o Filho de Deus veio, para destruir as obras do diabo.
9 Each man that is born of God, doeth not sin; for the seed of God dwelleth in him, and he may not do sin, for he is born of God. (Each one who is born of God, or who is a child of God, sinneth not; for God’s seed liveth in him, and so he cannot do sin, for he is born of God or he is a child of God.)
9 Aquele que é nascido de Deus não vive no pecado, pois a vida de Deus está nele. Logo, não pode continuar a pecar, pois é nascido de Deus.
10 In this thing the sons of God be known, and the sons of the fiend, (or By this the sons of God be known, and also the sons of the Devil). Each man that is not just, is not of God, and he that loveth not his brother [is not of God].
10 Assim, podemos identificar quem é filho de Deus e quem é filho do diabo. Quem não pratica a justiça e não ama seus irmãos não pertence a Deus.
11 For this is the telling, that ye heard at the beginning, that ye love each other; (For this is the tiding, or the message, that ye heard from the beginning, that ye should love one another;)
11 Esta é a mensagem que vocês ouviram desde o princípio: que amemos uns aos outros.
12 not as Cain, that was of the devil, and slew his brother. And for what thing slew he him? for his works were evil, and his brother’s (were) just. (not as Cain, who was of the Devil, and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? for his works were evil, and his brother’s works were righteous.)
12 Não sejamos como Caim, que pertencia ao maligno e assassinou seu irmão. E por que o assassinou? Porque Caim praticava o mal, e seu irmão praticava a justiça.
13 Brethren (or Brothers), do not ye wonder, if the world hateth you.
13 Portanto, meus irmãos, não se surpreendam se o mundo os odiar.
14 We know, that we be translated from death to life, for we love (the) brethren. He that loveth not, (yet) dwelleth in death. (We know, that we be transferred from death unto life, for we love the brothers. He who loveth not, remaineth yet in death, or still liveth in death.)
14 Se amamos nossos irmãos, significa que passamos da morte para a vida. Mas quem não ama continua morto.
15 Each man that hateth his brother, is a manslayer; and ye know, that each manslayer hath not everlasting life dwelling in him. (Each one who hateth his brother, is a murderer; and ye know, that no murderer hath Eternal Life living within him, or that no murderer hath eternal life dwelling within him.)
15 Quem odeia seu irmão já é assassino. E vocês sabem que nenhum assassino tem dentro de si a vida eterna.
16 In this thing we have known the charity of God, for he put his life for us, and we owe to put our lives for our brethren. (In this we have known the love of God, for he gave his life for us, and so we ought to give our lives for our brothers.)
16 Sabemos o que é o amor porque Jesus deu sua vida por nós. Portanto, também devemos dar nossa vida por nossos irmãos.
17 He that hath the chattel [or the substance] of this world, and seeth that his brother hath need, and closeth his entrails from him, how dwelleth the charity of God in him? (or how can he say that the love of God dwelleth within him?)
17 Se alguém tem recursos suficientes para viver bem e vê um irmão em necessidade, mas não mostra compaixão, como pode estar nele o amor de Deus?
18 My little sons, love we not in word, neither in tongue, but in work and truth.
18 Filhinhos, não nos limitemos a dizer que amamos uns aos outros; demonstremos a verdade por meio de nossas ações.
19 In this thing we know, that we be of (the) truth, and in his sight we admonish our hearts.
19 Com isso saberemos que pertencemos à verdade, e nos tranquilizaremos quando estivermos diante de Deus.
20 For if our heart reproveth us (or For if our conscience rebuketh us), God is more than our heart, and knoweth all things.
20 E, ainda que a consciência nos condene, Deus é maior que nossa consciência e sabe todas as coisas.
21 Most dear brethren, if our heart reproveth not us, we have trust to God; (Most dear\+em brothers\+em*, if our conscience rebuketh us not, then we have God’s trust;)
21 Amados, se a consciência não nos condena, podemos ir a Deus com total confiança
22 and whatever we shall ask, we shall receive of him, for we keep his commandments, and we do those things that be pleasant before him. (and whatever we shall ask, we shall receive from him, for we obey his commands, and we do those things that be pleasing before him.)
22 e dele receberemos tudo que pedirmos, pois lhe obedecemos e fazemos o que lhe agrada.
23 And this is the commandment of God, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and that we love each other, as he gave behest to us. (And this is God’s command, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and that we love one another, as he commanded us.)
23 E este é seu mandamento: que creiamos no nome de seu Filho, Jesus Cristo, e amemos uns aos outros, conforme ele nos ordenou.
24 And he that keepeth his commandments, dwelleth in him, and he in him, (or And he who obeyeth his commands, remaineth in him, and he in him). And in this thing we know, that he dwelleth in us, by the Spirit, whom he gave to us.
24 Aqueles que obedecem a seus mandamentos permanecem nele, e ele permanece neles. E sabemos que ele permanece em nós porque o Espírito que ele nos deu permanece em nós.
