1 See ye what manner charity the Father gave to us (or See what kind of love the Father gave us), that we be named the sons of God, and be his sons. For this thing the world knew not us, for it knew not him.
1 Vede que grande amor nos tem concedido o Pai, a ponto de sermos chamados filhos de Deus; e, de fato, somos filhos de Deus. Por essa razão, o mundo não nos conhece, porquanto não o conheceu a ele mesmo.
2 Most dear brethren(or Most dear \+em brothers\+em*), now we be the sons of God, and yet it appeared not, what we shall be. We know, that when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
2 Amados, agora, somos filhos de Deus, e ainda não se manifestou o que haveremos de ser. Sabemos que, quando ele se manifestar, seremos semelhantes a ele, porque haveremos de vê-lo como ele é.
3 And each man that hath this hope in him, maketh himself holy, as he is holy.
3 E a si mesmo se purifica todo o que nele tem esta esperança, assim como ele é puro.
4 Each man that doeth sin, doeth also wickedness, and sin is wickedness.
4 Todo aquele que pratica o pecado também transgride a lei, porque o pecado é a transgressão da lei.
5 And ye know, that he appeared to do away sins, and sin is not in him.
5 Sabeis também que ele se manifestou para tirar os pecados, e nele não existe pecado.
6 Each man that dwelleth in him, sinneth not; and each that sinneth, seeth not him, neither knew him. (Each one who remaineth in him, or who liveth in him, sinneth not; and each one who sinneth, seeth not him, nor knoweth him.)
6 Todo aquele que permanece nele não vive pecando; todo aquele que vive pecando não o viu, nem o conheceu.
7 Little sons, (let) no man deceive you; he that doeth rightwiseness, is just, as also he is just.
7 Filhinhos, não vos deixeis enganar por ninguém; aquele que pratica a justiça é justo, assim como ele é justo.
8 He that doeth sin, is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. In this thing the Son of God appeared, that he undo the works of the devil. (He who doeth sin, is of the Devil; for the Devil sinneth from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this, yea, that he destroy the works of the Devil.)
8 Aquele que pratica o pecado procede do diabo, porque o diabo vive pecando desde o princípio. Para isto se manifestou o Filho de Deus: para destruir as obras do diabo.
9 Each man that is born of God, doeth not sin; for the seed of God dwelleth in him, and he may not do sin, for he is born of God. (Each one who is born of God, or who is a child of God, sinneth not; for God’s seed liveth in him, and so he cannot do sin, for he is born of God or he is a child of God.)
9 Todo aquele que é nascido de Deus não vive na prática de pecado; pois o que permanece nele é a divina semente; ora, esse não pode viver pecando, porque é nascido de Deus.
10 In this thing the sons of God be known, and the sons of the fiend, (or By this the sons of God be known, and also the sons of the Devil). Each man that is not just, is not of God, and he that loveth not his brother [is not of God].
10 Nisto são manifestos os filhos de Deus e os filhos do diabo: todo aquele que não pratica justiça não procede de Deus, nem aquele que não ama a seu irmão.
11 For this is the telling, that ye heard at the beginning, that ye love each other; (For this is the tiding, or the message, that ye heard from the beginning, that ye should love one another;)
11 Porque a mensagem que ouvistes desde o princípio é esta: que nos amemos uns aos outros;
12 not as Cain, that was of the devil, and slew his brother. And for what thing slew he him? for his works were evil, and his brother’s (were) just. (not as Cain, who was of the Devil, and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? for his works were evil, and his brother’s works were righteous.)
12 não segundo Caim, que era do Maligno e assassinou a seu irmão; e por que o assassinou? Porque as suas obras eram más, e as de seu irmão, justas.
13 Brethren (or Brothers), do not ye wonder, if the world hateth you.
13 Irmãos, não vos maravilheis se o mundo vos odeia.
14 We know, that we be translated from death to life, for we love (the) brethren. He that loveth not, (yet) dwelleth in death. (We know, that we be transferred from death unto life, for we love the brothers. He who loveth not, remaineth yet in death, or still liveth in death.)
14 Nós sabemos que já passamos da morte para a vida, porque amamos os irmãos; aquele que não ama permanece na morte.
15 Each man that hateth his brother, is a manslayer; and ye know, that each manslayer hath not everlasting life dwelling in him. (Each one who hateth his brother, is a murderer; and ye know, that no murderer hath Eternal Life living within him, or that no murderer hath eternal life dwelling within him.)
15 Todo aquele que odeia a seu irmão é assassino; ora, vós sabeis que todo assassino não tem a vida eterna permanente em si.
16 In this thing we have known the charity of God, for he put his life for us, and we owe to put our lives for our brethren. (In this we have known the love of God, for he gave his life for us, and so we ought to give our lives for our brothers.)
16 Nisto conhecemos o amor: que Cristo deu a sua vida por nós; e devemos dar nossa vida pelos irmãos.
17 He that hath the chattel [or the substance] of this world, and seeth that his brother hath need, and closeth his entrails from him, how dwelleth the charity of God in him? (or how can he say that the love of God dwelleth within him?)
17 Ora, aquele que possuir recursos deste mundo, e vir a seu irmão padecer necessidade, e fechar-lhe o seu coração, como pode permanecer nele o amor de Deus?
18 My little sons, love we not in word, neither in tongue, but in work and truth.
18 Filhinhos, não amemos de palavra, nem de língua, mas de fato e de verdade.
19 In this thing we know, that we be of (the) truth, and in his sight we admonish our hearts.
19 E nisto conheceremos que somos da verdade, bem como, perante ele, tranquilizaremos o nosso coração;
20 For if our heart reproveth us (or For if our conscience rebuketh us), God is more than our heart, and knoweth all things.
20 pois, se o nosso coração nos acusar, certamente, Deus é maior do que o nosso coração e conhece todas as coisas.
21 Most dear brethren, if our heart reproveth not us, we have trust to God; (Most dear\+em brothers\+em*, if our conscience rebuketh us not, then we have God’s trust;)
21 Amados, se o coração não nos acusar, temos confiança diante de Deus;
22 and whatever we shall ask, we shall receive of him, for we keep his commandments, and we do those things that be pleasant before him. (and whatever we shall ask, we shall receive from him, for we obey his commands, and we do those things that be pleasing before him.)
22 e aquilo que pedimos dele recebemos, porque guardamos os seus mandamentos e fazemos diante dele o que lhe é agradável.
23 And this is the commandment of God, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and that we love each other, as he gave behest to us. (And this is God’s command, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and that we love one another, as he commanded us.)
23 Ora, o seu mandamento é este: que creiamos em o nome de seu Filho, Jesus Cristo, e nos amemos uns aos outros, segundo o mandamento que nos ordenou.
24 And he that keepeth his commandments, dwelleth in him, and he in him, (or And he who obeyeth his commands, remaineth in him, and he in him). And in this thing we know, that he dwelleth in us, by the Spirit, whom he gave to us.
24 E aquele que guarda os seus mandamentos permanece em Deus, e Deus, nele. E nisto conhecemos que ele permanece em nós, pelo Espírito que nos deu.
