GOD'S WORD (ENGGW) vs VC
1 It was the fifteenth year in the reign of the Emperor Tiberius. Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea. Herod ruled Galilee, and his brother Philip ruled Iturea and Trachonitis. Lysanias was the ruler of Abilene.
1 No ano décimo quinto do reinado do imperador Tibério, sendo Pôncio Pilatos governador da Judéia, Herodes tetrarca da Galiléia, seu irmão Filipe tetrarca da Ituréia e da província de Traconites, e Lisânias tetrarca da Abilina,
2 It was at the time when Annas and Caiaphas were chief priests that God spoke to John, son of Zechariah, in the desert.
2 sendo sumos sacerdotes Anás e Caifás, veio a palavra do Senhor no deserto a João, filho de Zacarias.
3 John traveled throughout the region around the Jordan River. He told people about a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
3 Ele percorria toda a região do Jordão, pregando o batismo de arrependimento para remissão dos pecados,
4 As the prophet Isaiah wrote in his book,
4 como está escrito no livro das palavras do profeta Isaías {40,3ss.}: Uma voz clama no deserto: Preparai o caminho do Senhor, endireitai as suas veredas.
5 Every valley will be filled.
5 Todo vale será aterrado, e todo monte e outeiro serão arrasados; tornar-se-á direito o que estiver torto, e os caminhos escabrosos serão aplainados.
6 All people will see the salvation that God gives.’ ”
6 Todo homem verá a salvação de Deus.
7 Crowds of people were coming to be baptized by John. He would say to them, “You poisonous snakes! Who showed you how to flee from God’s coming anger?
7 Dizia, pois, ao povo que vinha para ser batizado por ele: Raça de víboras! Quem vos ensinou a fugir da ira iminente?
8 Do those things that prove that you have turned to God and have changed the way you think and act. Don’t say, ‘Abraham is our ancestor.’ I guarantee that God can raise up descendants for Abraham from these stones.
8 Fazei, pois, uma conversão realmente frutuosa e não comeceis a dizer: Temos Abraão por pai. Pois vos digo: Deus tem poder para destas pedras suscitar filhos a Abraão.
9 The ax is now ready to cut the roots of the trees. Any tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into a fire.”
9 O machado já está posto à raiz das árvores. E toda árvore que não der fruto bom será cortada e lançada ao fogo.
10 The crowds asked him, “What should we do?”
10 Perguntava-lhe a multidão: Que devemos fazer?
11 He answered them, “Whoever has two shirts should share with the person who doesn’t have any. Whoever has food should share it too.”
11 Ele respondia: Quem tem duas túnicas dê uma ao que não tem; e quem tem o que comer, faça o mesmo.
12 Some tax collectors came to be baptized. They asked him, “Teacher, what should we do?”
12 Também publicanos vieram para ser batizados, e perguntaram-lhe: Mestre, que devemos fazer?
13 He told them, “Don’t collect more money than you are ordered to collect.”
13 Ele lhes respondeu: Não exijais mais do que vos foi ordenado.
14 Some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?”
14 Do mesmo modo, os soldados lhe perguntavam: E nós, que devemos fazer? Respondeu-lhes: Não pratiqueis violência nem defraudeis a ninguém, e contentai-vos com o vosso soldo.
15 People’s hopes were rising as they all wondered whether John was the Messiah.
15 Ora, como o povo estivesse na expectativa, e como todos perguntassem em seus corações se talvez João fosse o Cristo,
16 John replied to all of them, “I baptize you with water. But the one who is more powerful than I is coming. I am not worthy to untie his sandal straps. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
16 ele tomou a palavra, dizendo a todos: Eu vos batizo na água, mas eis que vem outro mais poderoso do que eu, a quem não sou digno de lhe desatar a correia das sandálias; ele vos batizará no Espírito Santo e no fogo.
17 His winnowing shovel is in his hand to clean up his threshing floor. He will gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn the husks in a fire that can never be put out.”
17 Ele tem a pá na mão e limpará a sua eira, e recolherá o trigo ao seu celeiro, mas queimará as palhas num fogo inextinguível.
18 With many other encouraging words, he told the Good News to the people.
18 É assim que ele anunciava ao povo a boa nova, e dirigia-lhe ainda muitas outras exortações.
19 John spoke out against the ruler Herod because Herod had married his own sister-in-law, Herodias. He also spoke out against Herod for all the evil things he had done.
19 Mas Herodes, o tetrarca, repreendido por ele por causa de Herodíades, mulher de seu irmão, e por causa de todos os crimes que praticara,
20 So Herod added one more evil to all the others; he locked John in prison.
20 acrescentou a todos eles também este: encerrou João no cárcere.
21 When all the people were baptized, Jesus, too, was baptized. While he was praying, heaven opened,
21 Quando todo o povo ia sendo batizado, também Jesus o foi. E estando ele a orar, o céu se abriu
22 and the Holy Spirit came down to him in the form of a dove. A voice from heaven said, “You are my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with you.”
22 e o Espírito Santo desceu sobre ele em forma corpórea, como uma pomba; e veio do céu uma voz: Tu és o meu Filho bem-amado; em ti ponho minha afeição.
23 Jesus was about 30 years old when he began ⌞his ministry⌟.
23 Quando Jesus começou o seu ministério, tinha cerca de trinta anos, e era tido por filho de José, filho de Heli, filho de Matat,
