1 After Abimelech, Tola, who was the son of Puah and grandson of Dodo, came to rescue Israel. Tola was from Issachar and lived in Shamir in the mountains of Ephraim.
1 Depois de Abimeleque levantou-se, para livrar a Israel, Tola, filho de Puva, filho de Dodó, homem de Issacar, que habitava em Samir, na região montanhosa de Efraim.
2 He judged Israel for 23 years. Tola died and was buried in Shamir.
2 Ele julgou a Israel vinte e três anos; e morreu, e foi sepultado em Samir.
3 After Tola, Jair from Gilead became a judge. He judged Israel for 22 years.
3 Depois dele levantou-se Jair, gileadita, que julgou a Israel vinte e dois anos.
4 Jair had 30 sons who rode on 30 donkeys. He also had 30 towns that are still called Havvoth Jair to this day. They are in the region of Gilead.
4 Ele tinha trinta filhos, que cavalgavam sobre trinta jumentos; e tinham estes trinta cidades, que se chamam Havote-Jair, até a dia de hoje, as quais estão na terra de Gileade.
5 Jair died and was buried in Kamon.
5 Morreu Jair, e foi sepultado em Camom.
6 The people of Israel again did what the Lord considered evil. They began to serve other gods and goddesses—the Baals and the Astartes—and the gods of Aram, Sidon, Moab, Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines. They abandoned the Lord and did not serve him.
6 Então tornaram os filhos de Israel a fazer e que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, e serviram aos baalins, e às astarotes, e aos deuses da Síria, e aos de Sidom, e de Moabe, e dos amonitas, e dos filisteus; e abandonaram o Senhor, e não o serviram.
7 The Lord became angry with the people of Israel. So he used the Philistines and Ammonites to defeat them.
7 Pelo que a ira do Senhor se acendeu contra Israel, e ele os vendeu na mão dos filisteus e na mão dos amonitas,
8 They oppressed and crushed the people of Israel that year. For 18 years they oppressed all who lived east of the Jordan River in the land of the Amorites in Gilead.
8 os quais naquele mesmo ano começaram a vexá-los e oprimi-los. Por dezoito anos oprimiram a todos os filhos de Israel que estavam dalém do Jordão, na terra dos amorreus, que é em Gileade.
9 Ammon also crossed the Jordan River to fight the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Ephraim. So Israel suffered a great deal.
9 E os amonitas passaram o Jordão, para pelejar também contra Judá e Benjamim, e contra a casa de Efraim, de maneira que Israel se viu muito angustiado.
10 Then the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help. They said, “We have sinned against you. We have abandoned our God and served other gods—the Baals.”
10 Então os filhos de Israel clamaram ao Senhor, dizendo: Pecamos contra ti, pois abandonamos o nosso Deus, e servimos aos baalins.
11 The Lord said to the people of Israel, “When the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines,
11 O Senhor, porém, respondeu aos filhos de Israel: Porventura não vos livrei eu dos egípcios, dos amorreus, dos amonitas e dos filisteus?
12 the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Maonites oppressed you, you cried out to me for help. Didn’t I rescue you from them?
12 Também os sidônios, os amalequitas e os maonitas vos oprimiram; e, quando clamastes a mim, não vos livrei da sua mão?
13 But you still abandoned me and served other gods. That’s why I won’t rescue you again.
13 Contudo vós me deixastes a mim e servistes a outros deuses, pelo que não vos livrarei mais.
14 Cry out for help to the gods you chose. Let them rescue you when you’re in trouble.”
14 Ide e clamai aos deuses que escolhestes; que eles vos livrem no tempo da vossa angústia.
15 The people of Israel said to the Lord, “We have sinned. Do to us whatever you think is right. But please rescue us today!”
15 Mas os filhos de Israel disseram ao Senhor: Pecamos; fazes-nos conforme tudo quanto te parecer bem; tão-somente te rogamos que nos livres hoje.
16 Then they got rid of the foreign gods they had and served the Lord. So the Lord could not bear to have Israel suffer any longer.
16 E tiraram os deuses alheios do meio de si, e serviram ao Senhor, que se moveu de compaixão por causa da desgraça de Israel.
17 The troops of Ammon were summoned to fight, and they camped at Gilead. The people of Israel also gathered together and camped at Mizpah.
17 Depois os amonitas se reuniram e acamparam em Gileade; também os filhos de Israel, reunindo-se, acamparam em Mizpá.
18 The leaders of the people of Gilead said to each other, “Whoever starts the fight against Ammon will rule everyone who lives in Gilead.”
18 Então o povo, isto é, os príncipes de Gileade disseram uns aos outros: Quem será o varão que começará a peleja contra os amonitas? esse será o chefe de todos os habitantes de Gileade.
