1 Wisdom hath builded her house; She hath hewn out her seven pillars.
1 A Sabedoria edificou a sua casa, lavrou as suas sete colunas.
2 She hath killed her fatlings; She hath mingled her wine; Yea, she hath furnished her table.
2 Carneou os seus animais, misturou o seu vinho e arrumou a sua mesa.
3 She hath sent forth her maidens; She crieth aloud upon the highest places of the city:
3 Já deu ordens às suas criadas e, assim, convida desde as alturas da cidade:
4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in hither!” To him that is void of understanding she saith,
4 Quem é simples, volte-se para aqui. Aos faltos de senso diz:
5 “Come, eat of my bread, And drink of the wine which I have mingled!
5 Vinde, comei do meu pão e bebei do vinho que misturei.
6 Forsake folly, and live! And go forward in the way of understanding!
6 Deixai os insensatos e vivei; andai pelo caminho do entendimento.
7 “He who correcteth a scoffer Bringeth shame upon himself; And he who rebuketh the wicked Bringeth upon himself a stain.
7 O que repreende o escarnecedor traz afronta sobre si; e o que censura o perverso a si mesmo se injuria.
8 Rebuke not a scoffer, lest he hate thee; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
8 Não repreendas o escarnecedor, para que te não aborreça; repreende o sábio, e ele te amará.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; Teach a righteous man, and he will increase his learning.
9 Dá instrução ao sábio, e ele se fará mais sábio ainda; ensina ao justo, e ele crescerá em prudência.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Most Holy is understanding.
10 O temor do Senhor é o princípio da sabedoria, e o conhecimento do Santo é prudência.
11 Yea, through me thy days shall be multiplied, And the years of thy life shall be increased.
11 Porque por mim se multiplicam os teus dias, e anos de vida se te acrescentarão.
12 If thou art wise, thou art wise for thyself; And if thou art a scoffer, thou alone must bear it.”
12 Se és sábio, para ti mesmo o és; se és escarnecedor, tu só o suportarás.
13 The foolish woman is clamorous; She is very simple, and careth for nothing.
13 A loucura é mulher apaixonada, é ignorante e não sabe coisa alguma.
14 She sitteth at the door of her house, Upon a seat in the high places of the city,
14 Assenta-se à porta de sua casa, nas alturas da cidade, toma uma cadeira,
15 To call aloud to those that pass by, Who go straight forward in their ways,
15 para dizer aos que passam e seguem direito o seu caminho:
16 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in hither!” And to him that is void of understanding she saith,
16 Quem é simples, volte-se para aqui. E aos faltos de senso diz:
17 “Stolen water is sweet, And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
17 As águas roubadas são doces, e o pão comido às ocultas é agradável.
18 But he considereth not that the dead are there, That in the vales of the under-world are her guests.
18 Eles, porém, não sabem que ali estão os mortos, que os seus convidados estão nas profundezas do inferno.
