1 The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:
1 Provérbios de Salomão, filho de Davi, o rei de Israel.
2 That one may learn wisdom and instruction, And receive words of understanding;
2 Para aprender a sabedoria e o ensino; para entender as palavras de inteligência;
3 That one may gain the instruction of prudence, Justice, equity, and uprightness;
3 para obter o ensino do bom proceder, a justiça, o juízo e a equidade;
4 Which will give caution to the simple, To the young man wisdom and discretion;
4 para dar aos simples prudência e aos jovens, conhecimento e bom siso.
5 Let the wise man hear, and he will increase his knowledge, And the man of understanding will gain wise counsels;
5 Ouça o sábio e cresça em prudência; e o instruído adquira habilidade
6 So as to understand a proverb and a deep maxim, The words of the wise and their dark sayings.
6 para entender provérbios e parábolas, as palavras e enigmas dos sábios.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
7 O temor do Senhor é o princípio do saber, mas os loucos desprezam a sabedoria e o ensino.
8 Hear, O my son! the instruction of thy father, And neglect not the teaching of thy mother!
8 Filho meu, ouve o ensino de teu pai e não deixes a instrução de tua mãe.
9 For they shall be a graceful wreath for thy head, And a chain around thy neck.
9 Porque serão diadema de graça para a tua cabeça e colares, para o teu pescoço.
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, Consent thou not!
10 Filho meu, se os pecadores querem seduzir-te, não o consintas.
11 If they say, “Come with us, Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us lurk secretly for him who is innocent in vain;
11 Se disserem: Vem conosco, embosquemo-nos para derramar sangue, espreitemos, ainda que sem motivo, os inocentes;
12 Let us swallow them up alive, like the underworld, Yea, in full health, as those that go down into the pit;
12 traguemo-los vivos, como o abismo, e inteiros, como os que descem à cova;
13 We shall find all kinds of precious substance, We shall fill our houses with spoil;
13 acharemos toda sorte de bens preciosos; encheremos de despojos a nossa casa;
14 Thou shalt cast thy lot among us; We will all have one purse;”—
14 lança a tua sorte entre nós; teremos todos uma só bolsa.
15 My son, walk thou not in their way, Refrain thy foot from their path!
15 Filho meu, não te ponhas a caminho com eles; guarda das suas veredas os pés;
16 For their feet run to evil, And make haste to shed blood.
16 porque os seus pés correm para o mal e se apressam a derramar sangue.
17 For as the net is spread in vain Before the eyes of any bird,
17 Pois debalde se estende a rede à vista de qualquer ave.
18 So they lie in wait for their own blood; They lurk secretly for their own lives.
18 Estes se emboscam contra o seu próprio sangue e a sua própria vida espreitam.
19 Such are the ways of every one greedy of unjust gain; It taketh away the life of the possessor thereof.
19 Tal é a sorte de todo ganancioso; e este espírito de ganância tira a vida de quem o possui.
20 Wisdom crieth out in the highway; In the market-place she uttereth her voice;
20 Grita na rua a Sabedoria, nas praças, levanta a voz;
21 At the head of the noisy streets she crieth aloud; At the entrances of the gates, throughout the city, she proclaimeth her words [[saying]]:
21 do alto dos muros clama, à entrada das portas e nas cidades profere as suas palavras:
22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? How long will scoffers delight themselves in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge?
22 Até quando, ó néscios, amareis a necedade? E vós, escarnecedores, desejareis o escárnio? E vós, loucos, aborrecereis o conhecimento?
23 Turn ye at my reproof! Behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make known my words to you!
23 Atentai para a minha repreensão; eis que derramarei copiosamente para vós outros o meu espírito e vos farei saber as minhas palavras.
24 “Because I have called, and ye have refused,—Because I have stretched out my hand, and no one hath regarded.
24 Mas, porque clamei, e vós recusastes; porque estendi a mão, e não houve quem atendesse;
25 Because ye have rejected all my counsel, And have slighted my rebuke,—
25 antes, rejeitastes todo o meu conselho e não quisestes a minha repreensão;
26 I also will laugh at your calamity, I will mock when your fear cometh;
26 também eu me rirei na vossa desventura, e, em vindo o vosso terror, eu zombarei,
27 When your fear cometh upon you like a storm. And destruction overtaketh you like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.
27 em vindo o vosso terror como a tempestade, em vindo a vossa perdição como o redemoinho, quando vos chegar o aperto e a angústia.
28 Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer! They will seek me early, But they shall not find me!
28 Então, me invocarão, mas eu não responderei; procurar-me-ão, porém não me hão de achar.
29 Because they have hated knowledge, And have not chosen the fear of the LORD,—
29 Porquanto aborreceram o conhecimento e não preferiram o temor do
30 Because they would not attend to my counsel, And have despised all my reproof,—
30 não quiseram o meu conselho e desprezaram toda a minha repreensão.
31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own devices;
31 Portanto, comerão do fruto do seu procedimento e dos seus próprios conselhos se fartarão.
32 Yea, the turning away of the simple shall slay them, And the carelessness of fools shall destroy them.
32 Os néscios são mortos por seu desvio, e aos loucos a sua impressão de bem-estar os leva à perdição.
33 But whoso hearkeneth to me shall dwell securely, And shall not be disquieted with the fear of evil.”
33 Mas o que me der ouvidos habitará seguro, tranquilo e sem temor do mal.
