1 Moreover Elihu proceeded, and said:
1 Eliú retomou ainda a palavra nestes termos:
2 Dost thou then think this to be right? Thou hast said, “I am more righteous than God.”
2 Imaginas ter razão em pretender justificar-te contra Deus?
3 For thou askest, “What advantage have I? What have I gained, more than if I had sinned?”
3 Quando dizes: Para que me serve isto, qual é minha vantagem em não pecar?
4 I will answer thee, And thy companions with thee.
4 Pois vou responder-te, a ti e a teus amigos.
5 Look up to the heavens, and see! And behold the clouds, which are high above thee!
5 Considera os céus e olha: vê como são mais altas do que tu as nuvens!
6 If thou sinnest, what doest thou against Him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou to him?
6 Se pecas, que danos lhe causas? Se multiplicas tuas faltas, que mal lhe fazes?
7 If thou art righteous, what dost thou give him? Or what receiveth he at thy hand?
7 Se és justo, que vantagem lhe dás, ou que recebe ele de tua mão?
8 Thy wickedness injureth only a man like thyself, And thy righteousness profiteth only a son of man.
8 Tua maldade só prejudica o homem, teu semelhante; tua justiça só diz respeito a um humano.
9 The oppressed cry out on account of the multitude of wrongs; They cry aloud on account of the arm of the mighty.
9 Sob o peso da opressão, geme-se, clama-se sob a mão dos poderosos.
10 But none saith, “Where is God, my Maker, Who giveth songs in the night;
10 Mas ninguém diz: Onde está Deus, meu criador, que inspira cantos de louvor em plena noite,
11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, And maketh us wiser than the birds of heaven?”
11 que nos instrui mais do que os animais selvagens e nos torna mais sábios do que as aves do céu?
12 There they cry aloud on account of the pride of the wicked; But he giveth no answer.
12 Clamam, mas não são ouvidos, por causa do orgulho dos maus.
13 For God will not hear the vain supplication, Nor will the Almighty regard it;
13 Deus não ouve as palavras frívolas, o Todo-poderoso não lhes presta atenção.
14 Much less when thou sayest thou canst not see him: Justice is with him,—only wait thou for him!
14 Quando dizes que ele não se ocupa de ti, que tua causa está diante dele, que esperas sua decisão,
15 But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, Nor taken strict note of transgression,
15 que sua cólera não castiga e que ele ignora o pecado,
16 Therefore hath Job opened his mouth rashly, And multiplied words without knowledge.
16 Jó abre a boca para palavras ociosas e derrama-se em discursos impertinentes.
