¹ Then Job answered and said:

¹ Jó, porém, respondeu, dizendo:

² How hast thou helped the weak, And strengthened the feeble arm!

² Como ajudaste aquele que não tinha força, e sustentaste o braço que não tinha vigor?

³ How hast thou counselled the ignorant, And revealed wisdom in fulness!

³ Como aconselhaste aquele que não tinha sabedoria, e plenamente fizeste saber a causa, assim como era?

⁴ For whom hast thou uttered these words? And whose spirit spake through thee?

⁴ A quem proferiste palavras, e de quem é o espírito que saiu de ti?

⁵ Before Him the shades tremble Beneath the waters and their inhabitants.

⁵ Os mortos tremem debaixo das águas, com os seus moradores.

⁶ The under-world is naked before him, And destruction is without covering.

⁶ O inferno está nu perante ele, e não há coberta para a perdição.

⁷ He stretcheth out the north over empty space, And hangeth the earth upon nothing.

⁷ O norte estende sobre o vazio; e suspende a terra sobre o nada.

⁸ He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds, And the cloud is not rent under them.

⁸ Prende as águas nas suas nuvens, todavia a nuvem não se rasga debaixo delas.

⁹ He covereth the face of his throne, And spreadeth his clouds upon it.

⁹ Encobre a face do seu trono, e sobre ele estende a sua nuvem.

¹⁰ He hath drawn a circular bound upon the waters, To the confines of light and darkness.

¹⁰ Marcou um limite sobre a superfície das águas em redor, até aos confins da luz e das trevas.

¹¹ The pillars of heaven tremble And are confounded at his rebuke.

¹¹ As colunas do céu tremem, e se espantam da sua ameaça.

¹² By his power he stilleth the sea, Yea, by his wisdom he smiteth its pride.

¹² Com a sua força fende o mar, e com o seu entendimento abate a soberba.

¹³ By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; His hand hath formed the fleeing Serpent.

¹³ Pelo seu Espírito ornou os céus; a sua mão formou a serpente enroscadiça.

¹⁴ Lo! these are but the borders of his works; How faint the whisper we have heard of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?

¹⁴ Eis que isto são apenas as orlas dos seus caminhos; e quão pouco é o que temos ouvido dele! Quem, pois, entenderia o trovão do seu poder?
