1 Know ye not|strong="G0050", brethren|strong="G0080", (for|strong="G1063" I speak|strong="G2980" to them that know|strong="G1097" the law|strong="G3551",) how that|strong="G3754" the law|strong="G3551" hath dominion over|strong="G2961" a man|strong="G0444" as|strong="G3745" long|strong="G5550" as|strong="G3745" he liveth|strong="G2198"?
2 For|strong="G1063" the woman|strong="G1135" which hath an husband|strong="G5220" is bound|strong="G1210" by the law|strong="G3551" to|strong="G0435" her husband|strong="G0435" so long as he liveth|strong="G2198"; but|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1437" the husband|strong="G0435" be dead|strong="G0599", she is loosed|strong="G2673" from|strong="G0575" the law|strong="G3551" of|strong="G0435" her husband|strong="G0435".
3 So|strong="G0686" then|strong="G3767" if|strong="G1437", while|strong="G2198" her husband|strong="G0435" liveth|strong="G2198", she be married|strong="G1096" to|strong="G0435" another|strong="G2087" man|strong="G0435", she shall be called|strong="G5537" an adulteress|strong="G3428": but|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1437" her husband|strong="G0435" be dead|strong="G0599", she is|strong="G2076" free|strong="G1658" from|strong="G0575" that law|strong="G3551"; so that|strong="G3588" she|strong="G0846" is|strong="G1511" no|strong="G3361" adulteress|strong="G3428", though she be married|strong="G1096" to|strong="G0435" another|strong="G2087" man|strong="G0435".
4 Wherefore|strong="G5620", my|strong="G3450" brethren|strong="G0080", ye|strong="G5210" also|strong="G2532" are become dead|strong="G2289" to the law|strong="G3551" by|strong="G1223" the body|strong="G4983" of Christ|strong="G5547"; that|strong="G1519" ye|strong="G5209" should be married|strong="G1096" to another|strong="G2087", even to him who is raised|strong="G1453" from|strong="G1537" the dead|strong="G3498", that|strong="G2443" we should bring forth fruit|strong="G2592" unto God|strong="G2316".
5 For|strong="G1063" when|strong="G3753" we were|strong="G1510" in|strong="G1722" the flesh|strong="G4561", the motions|strong="G3804" of sins|strong="G0266", which were|strong="G3588" by|strong="G1223" the law|strong="G3551", did work|strong="G1754" in|strong="G1722" our|strong="G2257" members|strong="G3196" to|strong="G1519" bring forth fruit|strong="G2592" unto death|strong="G2288".
6 But|strong="G1161" now|strong="G3570" we are delivered|strong="G2673" from|strong="G0575" the law|strong="G3551", that being dead|strong="G0599" wherein|strong="G1722" we were held|strong="G2722"; that|strong="G5620" we|strong="G2248" should serve|strong="G1398" in|strong="G1722" newness|strong="G2538" of spirit|strong="G4151", and|strong="G2532" not|strong="G3756" in the oldness|strong="G3821" of the letter|strong="G1121".
7 What|strong="G5101" shall we say|strong="G2046" then|strong="G3767"? Is the law|strong="G3551" sin|strong="G0266"? God forbid|strong="G1096". Nay|strong="G0235", I had|strong="G1097" not|strong="G3756" known|strong="G1097" sin|strong="G0266", but|strong="G3361" by|strong="G1223" the law|strong="G3551": for|strong="G1063" I had|strong="G1492" not|strong="G3756" known|strong="G1492" lust|strong="G1939", except|strong="G3361" the law|strong="G3551" had said|strong="G3004", Thou shalt|strong="G1937" not|strong="G3756" covet|strong="G1937".
8 But|strong="G1161" sin|strong="G0266", taking|strong="G2983" occasion|strong="G0874" by|strong="G1223" the commandment|strong="G1785", wrought|strong="G2716" in|strong="G1722" me|strong="G1698" all manner of|strong="G3956" concupiscence|strong="G1939". For|strong="G1063" without|strong="G5565" the law|strong="G3551" sin|strong="G0266" was dead|strong="G3498".
9 For|strong="G1161" I|strong="G1473" was alive|strong="G2198" without|strong="G5565" the law|strong="G3551" once|strong="G4218": but|strong="G1161" when|strong="G2064" the commandment|strong="G1785" came|strong="G2064", sin|strong="G0266" revived|strong="G0326", and|strong="G1161" I|strong="G1473" died|strong="G0599".
10 And|strong="G2532" the commandment|strong="G1785", which|strong="G3588" was ordained to|strong="G1519" life|strong="G2222", I|strong="G3427" found|strong="G2147" to be unto|strong="G1519" death|strong="G2288".
11 For|strong="G1063" sin|strong="G0266", taking|strong="G2983" occasion|strong="G0874" by|strong="G1223" the commandment|strong="G1785", deceived|strong="G1818" me|strong="G3165", and|strong="G2532" by|strong="G1223" it|strong="G0846" slew|strong="G0615" me.
12 Wherefore|strong="G5620" the law|strong="G3551" is holy|strong="G0040", and|strong="G2532" the commandment|strong="G1785" holy|strong="G0040", and|strong="G2532" just|strong="G1342", and|strong="G2532" good|strong="G0018".
13 Was|strong="G1096" then|strong="G3767" that which is good|strong="G0018" made|strong="G1096" death|strong="G2288" unto me|strong="G1698"? God forbid|strong="G1096". But|strong="G0235" sin|strong="G0266", that|strong="G2443" it might appear|strong="G5316" sin|strong="G0266", working|strong="G2716" death|strong="G2288" in me|strong="G3427" by|strong="G1223" that which is good|strong="G0018"; that|strong="G2443" sin|strong="G0266" by|strong="G1223" the commandment|strong="G1785" might become|strong="G1096" exceeding|strong="G5236" sinful|strong="G0268".
14 For|strong="G1063" we know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" the law|strong="G3551" is|strong="G2076" spiritual|strong="G4152": but|strong="G1161" I|strong="G1473" am|strong="G1510" carnal|strong="G4559", sold|strong="G4097" under|strong="G5259" sin|strong="G0266".
15 For|strong="G1063" that which|strong="G3739" I do|strong="G2716" I allow|strong="G1097" not|strong="G3756": for|strong="G1063" what|strong="G3739" I would|strong="G2309", that|strong="G5124" do I|strong="G4238" not|strong="G3756"; but|strong="G0235" what|strong="G3739" I hate|strong="G3404", that|strong="G5124" do I|strong="G4160".
16 If|strong="G1487" then|strong="G1161" I do|strong="G4160" that which|strong="G3739" I would|strong="G2309" not|strong="G3756", I consent unto|strong="G4852" the law|strong="G3551" that|strong="G3754" it is good|strong="G2570".
17 Now|strong="G3570" then|strong="G1161" it is no more|strong="G3765" I|strong="G1473" that|strong="G3765" do|strong="G2716" it|strong="G0846", but|strong="G0235" sin|strong="G0266" that dwelleth|strong="G3611" in|strong="G1722" me|strong="G1698".
18 For|strong="G1063" I know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" in|strong="G1722" me|strong="G1698" (that|strong="G5124" is|strong="G2076", in|strong="G1722" my|strong="G3450" flesh|strong="G4561",) dwelleth|strong="G3611" no|strong="G3756" good thing|strong="G0018": for|strong="G1063" to will|strong="G2309" is present|strong="G3873" with me|strong="G3427"; but|strong="G1161" how to perform|strong="G2716" that which is good|strong="G2570" I find|strong="G2147" not|strong="G3756".
19 For|strong="G1063" the good|strong="G0018" that|strong="G3739" I would|strong="G2309" I do|strong="G4160" not|strong="G3756": but|strong="G0235" the evil|strong="G2556" which|strong="G3739" I would|strong="G2309" not|strong="G3756", that|strong="G5124" I do|strong="G4238".
20 Now|strong="G1161" if|strong="G1487" I do|strong="G4160" that|strong="G3739" I|strong="G1473" would|strong="G2309" not|strong="G3756", it is no more|strong="G3765" I|strong="G1473" that|strong="G3765" do|strong="G2716" it|strong="G0846", but|strong="G0235" sin|strong="G0266" that dwelleth|strong="G3611" in|strong="G1722" me|strong="G1698".
21 I find|strong="G2147" then|strong="G0686" a law|strong="G3551", that|strong="G3754", when|strong="G2309" I|strong="G1698" would|strong="G2309" do|strong="G4160" good|strong="G2570", evil|strong="G2556" is present|strong="G3873" with me|strong="G1698".
22 For|strong="G1063" I delight|strong="G4913" in the law|strong="G3551" of God|strong="G2316" after|strong="G2596" the|strong="G0444" inward|strong="G2080" man|strong="G0444":
23 But|strong="G1161" I see|strong="G0991" another|strong="G2087" law|strong="G3551" in|strong="G1722" my|strong="G3450" members|strong="G3196", warring against|strong="G0497" the law|strong="G3551" of|strong="G3563" my|strong="G3450" mind|strong="G3563", and|strong="G2532" bringing|strong="G0163" me|strong="G3165" into captivity|strong="G0163" to the law|strong="G3551" of sin|strong="G0266" which is|strong="G5607" in|strong="G1722" my|strong="G3450" members|strong="G3196".
24 O|strong="G0444" wretched|strong="G5005" man|strong="G0444" that I am|strong="G1473"! who|strong="G5101" shall deliver|strong="G4506" me|strong="G3165" from|strong="G1537" the body|strong="G4983" of|strong="G2288" this|strong="G5127" death|strong="G2288"?
25 I thank|strong="G2168" God|strong="G2316" through|strong="G1223" Jesus|strong="G2424" Christ|strong="G5547" our|strong="G2257" Lord|strong="G2962". So|strong="G0686" then|strong="G3767" with the mind|strong="G3563" I|strong="G1473" myself|strong="G0846" serve|strong="G1398" the law|strong="G3551" of God|strong="G2316"; but|strong="G1161" with the flesh|strong="G4561" the law|strong="G3551" of sin|strong="G0266".
