And these are the countries which the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" inherited|strong="H5157" in the land|strong="H0776" of Canaan|strong="H3667", which Eleazar|strong="H0499" the priest|strong="H3548", and Joshua|strong="H3091" the son|strong="H1121" of Nun|strong="H5126", and the heads|strong="H7218" of the fathers|strong="H0001" of the tribes|strong="H4294" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", distributed for inheritance|strong="H5157" to them.
By lot|strong="H1486" was their inheritance|strong="H5159", as the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* commanded|strong="H6680" by the hand|strong="H3027" of Moses|strong="H4872", for the nine|strong="H8672" tribes|strong="H4294", and for the half|strong="H2677" tribe|strong="H4294".
For Moses|strong="H4872" had given|strong="H5414" the inheritance|strong="H5159" of two|strong="H8147" tribes|strong="H4294" and an half|strong="H2677" tribe|strong="H4294" on the other side|strong="H5676" Jordan|strong="H3383": but unto the Levites|strong="H3881" he gave|strong="H5414" none inheritance|strong="H5159" among|strong="H8432" them.
For the children|strong="H1121" of Joseph|strong="H3130" were two|strong="H8147" tribes|strong="H4294", Manasseh|strong="H4519" and Ephraim|strong="H0669": therefore they gave|strong="H5414" no part|strong="H2506" unto the Levites|strong="H3881" in the land|strong="H0776", save cities|strong="H5892" to dwell|strong="H3427" in, with their suburbs|strong="H4054" for their cattle|strong="H4735" and for their substance|strong="H7075".
As the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* commanded|strong="H6680" Moses|strong="H4872", so the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" did|strong="H6213", and they divided|strong="H2505" the land|strong="H0776".
Then the children|strong="H1121" of Judah|strong="H3063" came|strong="H5066" unto Joshua|strong="H3091" in Gilgal|strong="H1537": and Caleb|strong="H3612" the son|strong="H1121" of Jephunneh|strong="H3312" the Kenezite|strong="H7074" said|strong="H0559" unto him, Thou knowest|strong="H3045" the thing|strong="H1697" that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H1696" unto Moses|strong="H4872" the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" concerning me|strong="H0182" and thee|strong="H0182" in Kadesh-barnea|strong="H6947".
Forty|strong="H0705" years|strong="H8141" old|strong="H1121" was I when Moses|strong="H4872" the servant|strong="H5650" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* sent|strong="H7971" me from Kadesh-barnea|strong="H6947" to espy out|strong="H7270" the land|strong="H0776"; and I brought|strong="H7725" him word|strong="H1697" again|strong="H7725" as it was in mine heart|strong="H3824".
Nevertheless my brethren|strong="H0251" that went up|strong="H5927" with me made the heart|strong="H3820" of the people|strong="H5971" melt|strong="H4529": but I wholly|strong="H4390" followed|strong="H0310" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* my God|strong="H0430".
And Moses|strong="H4872" sware|strong="H7650" on that day|strong="H3117", saying|strong="H0559", Surely the land|strong="H0776" whereon thy feet|strong="H7272" have trodden|strong="H1869" shall be thine inheritance|strong="H5159", and thy children’s|strong="H1121" for|strong="H5704" ever|strong="H5769", because thou hast wholly|strong="H4390" followed|strong="H0310" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* my God|strong="H0430".
And now, behold, the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath kept me alive|strong="H2421", as he said|strong="H1696", these forty|strong="H0705" and five|strong="H2568" years|strong="H8141", even since|strong="H0227" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* spake|strong="H1696" this word|strong="H1697" unto Moses|strong="H4872", while the children of Israel|strong="H3478" wandered|strong="H1980" in the wilderness|strong="H4057": and now, lo, I am this day|strong="H3117" fourscore|strong="H8084" and five|strong="H2568" years|strong="H8141" old|strong="H1121".
As yet I am as strong|strong="H2389" this day|strong="H3117" as I was in the day|strong="H3117" that Moses|strong="H4872" sent|strong="H7971" me: as my strength|strong="H3581" was then, even so is my strength|strong="H3581" now, for war|strong="H4421", both to go out|strong="H3318", and to come in|strong="H0935".
Now therefore give|strong="H5414" me this mountain|strong="H2022", whereof the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* spake|strong="H1696" in that day|strong="H3117"; for thou heardest|strong="H8085" in that day|strong="H3117" how the Anakims|strong="H6062" were there, and that the cities|strong="H5892" were great|strong="H1419" and fenced|strong="H1219": if so be|strong="H0194" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* will be with|strong="H0854" me, then I shall be able to drive them out|strong="H3423", as the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H1696".
And Joshua|strong="H3091" blessed|strong="H1288" him, and gave|strong="H5414" unto Caleb|strong="H3612" the son|strong="H1121" of Jephunneh|strong="H3312" Hebron|strong="H2275" for an inheritance|strong="H5159".
Hebron|strong="H2275" therefore became the inheritance|strong="H5159" of Caleb|strong="H3612" the son|strong="H1121" of Jephunneh|strong="H3312" the Kenezite|strong="H7074" unto this day|strong="H3117", because that he wholly|strong="H4390" followed|strong="H0310" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478".
And the name|strong="H8034" of Hebron|strong="H2275" before|strong="H6440" was Kirjath-arba|strong="H7153"; which Arba was a great|strong="H1419" man|strong="H0120" among the Anakims|strong="H6062". And the land|strong="H0776" had rest|strong="H8252" from war|strong="H4421".
