Jeremias 49

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

Concerning the Ammonites|strong="H1121", thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; Hath Israel|strong="H3478" no sons|strong="H1121"? hath he no heir|strong="H3423"? why then doth their king|strong="H4428" inherit|strong="H3423" Gad|strong="H1410", and his people|strong="H5971" dwell|strong="H3427" in his cities|strong="H5892"?

Therefore, behold, the days|strong="H3117" come|strong="H0935", saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, that I will cause an alarm|strong="H8643" of war|strong="H4421" to be heard|strong="H8085" in Rabbah|strong="H7237" of the Ammonites|strong="H1121"; and it shall be a desolate|strong="H8077" heap|strong="H8510", and her daughters|strong="H1323" shall be burned|strong="H3341" with fire|strong="H0784": then shall Israel|strong="H3478" be heir|strong="H3423" unto them that were his heirs|strong="H3423", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Howl|strong="H3213", O Heshbon|strong="H2809", for Ai|strong="H5857" is spoiled|strong="H7703": cry|strong="H6817", ye daughters|strong="H1323" of Rabbah|strong="H7237", gird|strong="H2296" you with sackcloth|strong="H8242"; lament|strong="H5594", and run to and fro|strong="H7751" by the hedges|strong="H1448"; for their king|strong="H4428" shall go|strong="H3212" into captivity|strong="H1473", and his priests|strong="H3548" and his princes|strong="H8269" together|strong="H3162".

Wherefore gloriest|strong="H1984" thou in the valleys|strong="H6010", thy flowing|strong="H2100" valley|strong="H6010", O backsliding|strong="H7728" daughter|strong="H1323"? that trusted|strong="H0982" in her treasures|strong="H0214", saying, Who shall come|strong="H0935" unto me?

Behold, I will bring|strong="H0935" a fear|strong="H6343" upon thee, saith|strong="H5002" the Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", from all those that be about|strong="H5439" thee; and ye shall be driven out|strong="H5080" every man|strong="H0376" right forth|strong="H6440"; and none shall gather up|strong="H6908" him that wandereth|strong="H5074".

And afterward|strong="H0310" I will bring again|strong="H7725" the captivity|strong="H7622" of the children|strong="H1121" of Ammon|strong="H5983", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Concerning Edom|strong="H0123", thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635"; Is wisdom|strong="H2451" no more in Teman|strong="H8487"? is counsel|strong="H6098" perished|strong="H0006" from the prudent|strong="H0995"? is their wisdom|strong="H2451" vanished|strong="H5628"?

Flee|strong="H5127" ye, turn back|strong="H6437", dwell|strong="H3427" deep|strong="H6009", O inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Dedan|strong="H1719"; for I will bring|strong="H0935" the calamity|strong="H0343" of Esau|strong="H6215" upon him, the time|strong="H6256" that I will visit|strong="H6485" him.

If grapegatherers|strong="H1219" come|strong="H0935" to thee, would they not leave|strong="H7604" some gleaning grapes|strong="H5955"? if thieves|strong="H1590" by night|strong="H3915", they will destroy|strong="H7843" till they have enough|strong="H1767".

But I have made Esau|strong="H6215" bare|strong="H2834", I have uncovered|strong="H1540" his secret places|strong="H4565", and he shall not be able|strong="H3201" to hide|strong="H2247" himself: his seed|strong="H2233" is spoiled|strong="H7703", and his brethren|strong="H0251", and his neighbours|strong="H7934", and he is not.

Leave|strong="H5800" thy fatherless children|strong="H3490", I will preserve them alive|strong="H2421"; and let thy widows|strong="H0490" trust|strong="H0982" in me.

For thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; Behold, they whose judgment|strong="H4941" was not to drink|strong="H8354" of the cup|strong="H3563" have assuredly|strong="H8354" drunken|strong="H8354"; and art thou he that shall altogether|strong="H5352" go unpunished|strong="H5352"? thou shalt not go unpunished|strong="H5352", but thou shalt surely|strong="H8354" drink|strong="H8354" of it.

For I have sworn|strong="H7650" by myself, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, that Bozrah|strong="H1224" shall become a desolation|strong="H8047", a reproach|strong="H2781", a waste|strong="H2721", and a curse|strong="H7045"; and all the cities|strong="H5892" thereof shall be perpetual|strong="H5769" wastes|strong="H2723".

I have heard|strong="H8085" a rumour|strong="H8052" from the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and an ambassador|strong="H6735" is sent|strong="H7971" unto the heathen|strong="H1471", saying, Gather ye together|strong="H6908", and come|strong="H0935" against her, and rise up|strong="H6965" to the battle|strong="H4421".

For, lo, I will make|strong="H5414" thee small|strong="H6996" among the heathen|strong="H1471", and despised|strong="H0959" among men|strong="H0120".

Thy terribleness|strong="H8606" hath deceived|strong="H5377" thee, and the pride|strong="H2087" of thine heart|strong="H3820", O thou that dwellest|strong="H7931" in the clefts|strong="H2288" of the rock|strong="H5553", that holdest|strong="H8610" the height|strong="H4791" of the hill|strong="H1389": though thou shouldest make thy nest|strong="H7064" as high|strong="H1361" as the eagle|strong="H5404", I will bring thee down|strong="H3381" from thence, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Also Edom|strong="H0123" shall be a desolation|strong="H8047": every one that goeth|strong="H5674" by it shall be astonished|strong="H8074", and shall hiss|strong="H8319" at all the plagues|strong="H4347" thereof.

As in the overthrow|strong="H4114" of Sodom|strong="H5467" and Gomorrah|strong="H6017" and the neighbour|strong="H7934" cities thereof, saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, no man|strong="H0376" shall abide|strong="H3427" there, neither shall a son|strong="H1121" of man|strong="H0120" dwell|strong="H1481" in it.

Behold, he shall come up|strong="H5927" like a lion|strong="H0738" from the swelling|strong="H1347" of Jordan|strong="H3383" against the habitation|strong="H5116" of the strong|strong="H0386": but I will suddenly|strong="H7280" make him run away|strong="H7323" from her: and who is a chosen|strong="H0977" man, that I may appoint|strong="H6485" over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time|strong="H3259"? and who is that shepherd|strong="H7462" that will stand|strong="H5975" before|strong="H6440" me?

Therefore hear|strong="H8085" the counsel|strong="H6098" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, that he hath taken|strong="H3289" against Edom|strong="H0123"; and his purposes|strong="H4284", that he hath purposed|strong="H2803" against the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Teman|strong="H8487": Surely the least|strong="H6810" of the flock|strong="H6629" shall draw them out|strong="H5498": surely he shall make their habitations|strong="H5116" desolate|strong="H8074" with them.

The earth|strong="H0776" is moved|strong="H7493" at the noise|strong="H6963" of their fall|strong="H5307", at the cry|strong="H6818" the noise|strong="H6963" thereof was heard|strong="H8085" in the Red|strong="H5488" sea|strong="H3220".

Behold, he shall come up|strong="H5927" and fly|strong="H1675" as the eagle|strong="H5404", and spread|strong="H6566" his wings|strong="H3671" over Bozrah|strong="H1224": and at that day|strong="H3117" shall the heart|strong="H3820" of the mighty men|strong="H1368" of Edom|strong="H0123" be as the heart|strong="H3820" of a woman|strong="H0802" in her pangs|strong="H6887".

Concerning Damascus|strong="H1834". Hamath|strong="H2574" is confounded|strong="H0954", and Arpad|strong="H0774": for they have heard|strong="H8085" evil|strong="H7451" tidings|strong="H8052": they are fainthearted|strong="H4127"; there is sorrow|strong="H1674" on the sea|strong="H3220"; it cannot|strong="H3201" be quiet|strong="H8252".

Damascus|strong="H1834" is waxed feeble|strong="H7503", and turneth|strong="H6437" herself to flee|strong="H5127", and fear|strong="H7374" hath seized|strong="H2388" on her: anguish|strong="H6869" and sorrows|strong="H2256" have taken|strong="H0270" her, as a woman in travail|strong="H3205".

How is the city|strong="H5892" of praise|strong="H8416" not left|strong="H5800", the city|strong="H7151" of my joy|strong="H4885"!

Therefore her young men|strong="H0970" shall fall|strong="H5307" in her streets|strong="H7339", and all the men|strong="H0582" of war|strong="H4421" shall be cut off|strong="H1826" in that day|strong="H3117", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635".

And I will kindle|strong="H3341" a fire|strong="H0784" in the wall|strong="H2346" of Damascus|strong="H1834", and it shall consume|strong="H0398" the palaces|strong="H0759" of Ben-hadad|strong="H1130".

Concerning Kedar|strong="H6938", and concerning the kingdoms|strong="H4467" of Hazor|strong="H2674", which Nebuchadrezzar|strong="H5019" king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" shall smite|strong="H5221", thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; Arise|strong="H6965" ye, go up|strong="H5927" to Kedar|strong="H6938", and spoil|strong="H7703" the men|strong="H1121" of the east|strong="H6924".

Their tents|strong="H0168" and their flocks|strong="H6629" shall they take away|strong="H3947": they shall take|strong="H5375" to themselves their curtains|strong="H3407", and all their vessels|strong="H3627", and their camels|strong="H1581"; and they shall cry|strong="H7121" unto them, Fear|strong="H4032" is on every side|strong="H5439".

Flee|strong="H5127", get|strong="H5110" you far off|strong="H3966", dwell|strong="H3427" deep|strong="H6009", O ye inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Hazor|strong="H2674", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; for Nebuchadrezzar|strong="H5019" king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" hath taken counsel|strong="H6098" against you, and hath conceived|strong="H2803" a purpose|strong="H4284" against you.

Arise|strong="H6965", get you up|strong="H5927" unto the wealthy|strong="H7961" nation|strong="H1471", that dwelleth|strong="H3427" without care|strong="H0983", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, which have neither gates|strong="H1817" nor bars|strong="H1280", which dwell|strong="H7931" alone|strong="H0910".

And their camels|strong="H1581" shall be a booty|strong="H0957", and the multitude|strong="H1995" of their cattle|strong="H4735" a spoil|strong="H7998": and I will scatter|strong="H2219" into all winds|strong="H7307" them that are in the utmost|strong="H7112" corners|strong="H6285"; and I will bring|strong="H0935" their calamity|strong="H0343" from all sides|strong="H5676" thereof, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

And Hazor|strong="H2674" shall be a dwelling|strong="H4583" for dragons|strong="H8577", and a desolation|strong="H8077" for|strong="H5704" ever|strong="H5769": there shall no man|strong="H0376" abide|strong="H3427" there, nor any son|strong="H1121" of man|strong="H0120" dwell|strong="H1481" in it.

The word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* that came to Jeremiah|strong="H3414" the prophet|strong="H5030" against Elam|strong="H5867" in the beginning|strong="H7225" of the reign|strong="H4438" of Zedekiah|strong="H6667" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", saying|strong="H0559",

Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635"; Behold, I will break|strong="H7665" the bow|strong="H7198" of Elam|strong="H5867", the chief|strong="H7225" of their might|strong="H1369".

And upon Elam|strong="H5867" will I bring|strong="H0935" the four|strong="H0702" winds|strong="H7307" from the four|strong="H0702" quarters|strong="H7098" of heaven|strong="H8064", and will scatter|strong="H2219" them toward all those winds|strong="H7307"; and there shall be no nation|strong="H1471" whither the outcasts|strong="H5080" of Elam|strong="H5867" shall not come|strong="H0935".

For I will cause Elam|strong="H5867" to be dismayed|strong="H2865" before|strong="H6440" their enemies|strong="H0341", and before|strong="H6440" them that seek|strong="H1245" their life|strong="H5315": and I will bring|strong="H0935" evil|strong="H7451" upon them, even my fierce|strong="H2740" anger|strong="H0639", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; and I will send|strong="H7971" the sword|strong="H2719" after|strong="H0310" them, till I have consumed|strong="H3615" them:

And I will set|strong="H7760" my throne|strong="H3678" in Elam|strong="H5867", and will destroy|strong="H0006" from thence the king|strong="H4428" and the princes|strong="H8269", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

But it shall come to pass in the latter|strong="H0319" days|strong="H3117", that I will bring again|strong="H7725" the captivity|strong="H7622" of Elam|strong="H5867", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
