Now these are the names|strong="H8034" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", which came|strong="H0935" into Egypt|strong="H4714"; every man|strong="H0376" and his household|strong="H1004" came|strong="H0935" with Jacob|strong="H3290".
Reuben|strong="H7205", Simeon|strong="H8095", Levi|strong="H3878", and Judah|strong="H3063",
Issachar|strong="H3485", Zebulun|strong="H2074", and Benjamin|strong="H1144",
Dan|strong="H1835", and Naphtali|strong="H5321", Gad|strong="H1410", and Asher|strong="H0836".
And all the souls|strong="H5315" that came out|strong="H3318" of the loins|strong="H3409" of Jacob|strong="H3290" were seventy|strong="H7657" souls|strong="H5315": for Joseph|strong="H3130" was in Egypt|strong="H4714" already.
And Joseph|strong="H3130" died|strong="H4191", and all his brethren|strong="H0251", and all that generation|strong="H1755".
And the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" were fruitful|strong="H6509", and increased abundantly|strong="H8317", and multiplied|strong="H7235", and waxed exceeding|strong="H3966" mighty|strong="H6105"; and the land|strong="H0776" was filled|strong="H4390" with them.
Now there arose up|strong="H6965" a new|strong="H2319" king|strong="H4428" over Egypt|strong="H4714", which knew|strong="H3045" not Joseph|strong="H3130".
And he said|strong="H0559" unto his people|strong="H5971", Behold, the people|strong="H5971" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" are more|strong="H7227" and mightier|strong="H6099" than we:
Come on|strong="H3051", let us deal wisely|strong="H2449" with them; lest they multiply|strong="H7235", and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out|strong="H7122" any war|strong="H4421", they|strong="H1931" join|strong="H3254" also unto our enemies|strong="H8130", and fight|strong="H3898" against us, and so get them up|strong="H5927" out of the land|strong="H0776".
Therefore they did set|strong="H7760" over them taskmasters|strong="H4522" to afflict|strong="H6031" them with their burdens|strong="H5450". And they built|strong="H1129" for Pharaoh|strong="H6547" treasure|strong="H4543" cities|strong="H5892", Pithom|strong="H6619" and Raamses|strong="H7486".
But the more they afflicted|strong="H6031" them, the more|strong="H3651" they multiplied|strong="H7235" and grew|strong="H6555". And they were grieved|strong="H6973" because|strong="H6440" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478".
And the Egyptians|strong="H4714" made|strong="H5647" the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" to serve|strong="H5647" with rigour|strong="H6531":
And they made|strong="H4843" their lives|strong="H2416" bitter|strong="H4843" with hard|strong="H7186" bondage|strong="H5656", in morter|strong="H2563", and in brick|strong="H3843", and in all manner of service|strong="H5656" in the field|strong="H7704": all their service|strong="H5656", wherein they made them serve|strong="H5647", was with rigour|strong="H6531".
And the king|strong="H4428" of Egypt|strong="H4714" spake|strong="H0559" to the Hebrew|strong="H5680" midwives|strong="H3205", of which the name|strong="H8034" of the one|strong="H0259" was Shiphrah|strong="H8236", and the name|strong="H8034" of the other|strong="H8145" Puah|strong="H6326":
And he said|strong="H0559", When ye do the office of a midwife|strong="H3205" to the Hebrew women|strong="H5680", and see|strong="H7200" them upon the stools|strong="H0070"; if it be a son|strong="H1121", then ye shall kill|strong="H4191" him: but if it be a daughter|strong="H1323", then she shall live|strong="H2425".
But the midwives|strong="H3205" feared|strong="H3372" God|strong="H0430", and did|strong="H6213" not as the king|strong="H4428" of Egypt|strong="H4714" commanded|strong="H1696" them, but saved|strong="H2421" the men children|strong="H3206" alive|strong="H2421".
And the king|strong="H4428" of Egypt|strong="H4714" called|strong="H7121" for the midwives|strong="H3205", and said|strong="H0559" unto them, Why|strong="H4069" have ye done|strong="H6213" this thing|strong="H1697", and have saved|strong="H2421" the men children|strong="H3206" alive|strong="H2421"?
And the midwives|strong="H3205" said|strong="H0559" unto Pharaoh|strong="H6547", Because the Hebrew|strong="H5680" women|strong="H0802" are not as the Egyptian women|strong="H4713"; for they are lively|strong="H2422", and are delivered|strong="H3205" ere|strong="H2962" the midwives|strong="H3205" come in|strong="H0935" unto them.
Therefore God|strong="H0430" dealt well|strong="H3190" with the midwives|strong="H3205": and the people|strong="H5971" multiplied|strong="H7235", and waxed very|strong="H3966" mighty|strong="H6105".
And it came to pass, because the midwives|strong="H3205" feared|strong="H3372" God|strong="H0430", that he made|strong="H6213" them houses|strong="H1004".
And Pharaoh|strong="H6547" charged|strong="H6680" all his people|strong="H5971", saying|strong="H0559", Every son|strong="H1121" that is born|strong="H3209" ye shall cast|strong="H7993" into the river|strong="H2975", and every daughter|strong="H1323" ye shall save alive|strong="H2421".
